Yes, quite shocking that, initially, it wasnβt popular.

I would add Great Expectations and Oliver Twist to those. Oliver Twist was the very first Dickens novel I read.
A very early film version of Oliver Twist, possibly from 1907. It's not known if the film ends as shown as it's a bit abrupt as it's quite possible that bits are missing.
Unless you know the story, this clip won't mean that much.

I like both of those too
Goodnight and sweet dreams, Ros
Hug for any night owls
*night owls* good evening gang! A much brighter day here, which was fabulous. A busy day too, Iβve been at work and up to the cash & carry this evening.
I love the radio times no 1. Christmas movie White Christmas is in my top 5 too
i have a first edition of A Christmas Carol! Itβs a little bit battered, the poor thing, but itβs still lovely to keep on my bookshelf it was given to me by my grandmother
I must get to sleep, so sweet dreams everyone I hope youβre all on top of things and enjoying the festive countdown
night yogi and summer
Good morning I thought Iβd pop in early in case work is too busy later
i hope you all slept well
can you believe the situation at Gatwick?!
Good morning everyone
Sunny here at present though showers are likely and another band of rain forecast for tonight.
Summer, your first edition of A Christmas Carol is something to treasure even if battered.
That drone operator (unless underage) is looking at a 5 year prison sentence
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning all
Raining heavily up here.
Summer, how lovely to have a first edition of A Christmas Carol
How stupid do you have to be to fly a drone at an airport.
Have a lovely day, all.
Yogi, the drone operator is either doing it maliciously with the intent of disruption or it's a young person doing it without thinking of the consequences
Good morning everyone, a bright but still chilly morning here. I think David Copperfield is probably my favourite Dickens book. Such memorable characters. Did everyone see the portrait of him as a young man published recently? We're all so used to seeing him as a grizzled old man it's quite a surprise
Enjoy your day everyone
Squiggle, yes, I saw that picture on the BBC news yesterday when they had an item about the 175th anniversary of the publication of A Christmas Carol. It was painted at that time so Dickens would have been 31.
There's a faint rainbow here. What's unusual is that it hasn't been raining here so I assume there must have been raining very near here, just not here.
Armed forces being deployed to give the police help in dealing with the drones at Gatwick. How is not being disclosed other than the armed forces have a range of unique capabilities.

I missed that when it was published, Squiggle. Itβs a lovely portrait.

Rainbows make me smile

I hope they take it down, and get the idiot responsible

Maximum 5 years in prison for endangering an aircraft and/or a fine. I wonder if there's also a civil case which could be brought against the person(s) responsible for damages which could be brought by Gatwick, the plane companies, passengers. etc. If there was and it was successful, that would make anyone inclined to do something similar have a rethink.

Can you believe Iβve never read or seen David Copperfield?!
a very, very busy day here. Only 2 more to go, ho ho!
Sweet dreans everyone
night yogi and summer
Good morning everyone
Very dark clouds here though less rain than recent days in the forecast.
Summer, although the book David Copperfield is worth reading I havent seen a film version which is to the standard of the Lean versions of Great Expecatations and Oliver Twist and the classic Scrooge. Of film adaptations of other Dickens books either version of Nicholas Nickelby are worth watching,
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone
Weather is dry atm but the sky is grey.
Heading out soon to Morrisons.
Have a good day, all
Good morning everyone
Wet and windy here. However, it may get a little better as the day goes on
Happy shopping Yogi
Have a great day everyone
With the greatest of respect to my Scottish friends, I have just watched haggis being made. Definitely not for me
Good morning everyone, still very windy and cold with menacing clouds gathering but no rain so far. It is forecast to be dry today but I doubt it with the way the sky looks. There was a fantastic TV version of David Copperfield a few years ago which I really enjoyed. This one I think https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092335/ Moonie I feel the same and about black pudding too.
Enjoy your day everyone
Yogi, I hope your shopping goes well and that Morrisons isn't unbearably crowded
Moonie, many years ago I had to attend the stocktake of a company which, amongst other things, produced pork pies. They would have been top quality pies but I've never eaten one since. So I understand that watching haggis being made could be offputting for some
Squiggle, I agree with you that the BBC adaptations of David Copperfield tend to be really good The one you linked to was good as was this earlier one:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327277/
That had a very strong cast with Ian McKellen as the older David Copperfield in a very early role for him.
Squiggle, I can just about manage black pudding
El, I like pork pies and I have seen them made too
You might have seen a recent advert from Huawei. This is the full length version which you probably haven't seen.
I recognised the young girl, Maisie Sly, from the Oscar winning short "The Silent Girl" which has been shown on BBC.
The actor Donald Moffat has died, he was 87.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/ent...inment-arts-46647730
He was in quite a lot of films and television programmes but I remember him from the short lived TV series based on Logan's Run (1977-8). He played the part of Rem, an android.

Wasnβt Jenny Agutter in Loganβs Run El?

for the night owls
night yogi blinkin internet been playing up lately -terrible tonight night moons and summer if you pop in
Good morning everyone
Fairish weather here today, tomorrow looks to be another wet day.
Ros, I hope your internet issues get sorted out soon
Moonie, the original film version of Logan's Run does start Jenny Agutter and Michael York. The character Rem (Donald Moffatt) isn't in that film, just the TV series. There was the possibility of a film remake a couple of years ago but I don't know if that got any further than the drafting of a screenplay,
I hope everyone has a good day
