I hope everyone has a good day
"Holographic" lecturers to teach at Imperial College in London:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-46060381
Strictly they aren't holograms nor are they using what's called "Pepper's Ghost" effect invented back in 1862.
Good morning everyone, a big hug for Yogi, hope you feel better soon Cold and clear this morning, beautiful but chilly.
Enjoy your day everyone
Bank of England looking for suggestions for people to be nomnated to appear on the next Β£50.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46063097
Nominations have to be British scientists and can't still be alive. Likely contenders are Stephen Hawking, Alan Turing and Ada Lovelace. (Isaac Newton was on the Β£1 note so unlikely to be chosen again).
Good afternoon sunny & bright here, a beautiful day
no yogi yet? I hope sheβs alright π€ π€
Summer, there was a message from Baz on the History thread yesterday evening to say that Yogi wasn't well
Saw a silly British film yesterday called "A Weekend with Lulu". Black and white 1961 comedy, the main people being Leslie Phillips taking his girlfriend Shirley Eaton on a short break in a caravan (called Lulu) with Bob Monkhouse towing it with a ice cream van he's "borrowed" from work. And Shirley Eaton's mother, Irene Handl, decides to accompany them. Somehow they land up in France, Quite watchable and harmless.
Unusually, the film was made by the Hammer studios. a complete departure for them. Various people from some of the Carry On films appear in small roles during the film.
El, you are the brightest box in this forum.
You know where it comes from. It's with love

Thanks, but I'm not neccessarily the brightest here
And now for quite a find. This is a 1963 filmed version of Bela Bartok's opera "Herzog Blubarts Burg" = "Bluebeard's Castle" and is about an hour long. It's in German but there are English subtitles.
The lead singer is Norman Foster who produced the film privately.
It's very unlikely that you've ever heard of it or seen it, it's probably never been shown on television and it's not available on Amazon.
But right at the end is the name of who directed it - and that's why this is quite a find.
Evening all
I had another Crohnβs related blip. Unfortunately, Humira no longer seems to be working very well. I see my consultant next month so, we may need to look at different meds.
Hope everyone else is well

Hi Yogi
Sorry to hear you're suffering again
I hope your consultant can sort you out
Yogi,
Something worth reading as to other possible treatments:
https://medicalxpress.com/news...erologist-crohn.html
and if you read towards the end, it's just as well that BB is just about over as that really won't have helped.

Thank you for that, El.
The bit about sleep was very interesting and Iβm glad I gave up on BB
I have had a bit of extra stress recently which probably hasnβt helped.
Anyway, onwards and upwards.
Goodnight and sweet dreams, Ros
Hug for any night owls
night yogi -glad you are feeling better summer if you pop in
Good morning everyone
Cloudy but dry here - forecast to become wetter and windier by the end of the day.
Yogi, thanks. I hope the symptoms have subsided by now
Truly, Madly, Deeply on BBC2 this evening - hasn't been on television since 2006. Stars Juliet Stevenson and the late Alan Rickman and directed by the late Anthony Minghella. Film was described at the time as a more intelligent Ghost, the comparison is somewhat misleading as it's essentially a study of the effect of a sudden bereavement, finding someone else, and trying to decide whether to hold on to the past or move on. It was originally meant for television but was released in cinemas. It's good but not an easy watch.
I hope everyone hs a good day
Good morning everyone
Heavy rain up here
El, Iβve seen Truly, Madly, Deeply. The acting was good but I agree, it wasnβt an easy watch.
Have a good day, all.
Good morning everyone, I hope you are feeling a little better this morning Yogi. A bit grey this morning. I never fancied that film so I shall give it a miss.
Enjoy your day everyone
I mentioned Truly, Madly, Deeply as it was Roger Ebert, possibly the best known American film reviewer and writer of film books, who described the film as "This is sort of a 'Ghost' for grown-ups". Although he was highly regarded, the two films are totally different. It's rather like describing "The Guns of Navarone" as sort of "Casablanca" as they both are WW2 films with connections to resistance fighters
Tomorrow's World to return for a one-off on BBC4:

Besides the two mentioned, the woman on the right is Judith Hann, can't put a name to the other man. No mention of the original presenter Raymond Baxter.
This isn't a recommendation but the Radio 4 drama this afternoon is rather strange. A copy and paste of BBC's blurb:
John Malkovich makes his Radio 4 drama debut as Cheeta the chimp, now living in a sanctuary for retired animal actors in Palm Springs where he passes the time painting and writing his memoirs.
He tells us how he was captured from the jungle in the 1930s, trained as a performer, and taken to Hollywood to play alongside Olympic swimming champion, Johnny Weissmuller, in the Tarzan movies.
As well as a chimp's eye view of Hollywood's Golden Age, Me Cheeta is a moving portrayal of an enduring friendship between man and beast, and a tribute to the innocent boyish beauty of the man who will always be remembered as Tarzan.
Julian Sands is Tarzan in Stef Penney's adaptation of James Leverβs novel, Me Cheeta: The Autobiography.

Forum is playing up for me.

Good morning everyone
Some rain overnight here, cloudy but dry at present, may get more light rain during today.
Yogi, I'm glad you are feeling a lot better
Looking at your post and others on the History thread, as mentioned there it sounds as if one of the Social Strata servers was playing up. I'm not aware of any problems but I know that in the past when there have been similar problems Lori's advice has been to come out of the forum, wait a couple of minutes before going back in, and you could be on a different server.
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone
Weather is drier and brighter than yesterday.
El, I did try Loriβs advice but it didn't work last night
Have a good day, all
Good morning everyone, lots of cloud today but dry so far, I think it could be a wet afternoon.
Enjoy your day everyone
Yogi, if you or the others continue to have forum issues then a prompt to Lori would let her know that there was a problem. She could check to see if there are server issues. @Lori is what to do (I've removed the hyperlink).
Squiggle, I hope it's not too wet an afternoon for you
I started watching a documentary on Talking Pictures a few minutes ago called "What is Cinema?" Could have been fascinating but it's just a non-stop barrage of clips from films with various directors etc talking at the same time about films but not related to the clips being shown at the time. Sadly, it's unwatchable.

As I suspected the song being used in the trailer for Dynasties (the David Attenborough series) is by Ruelle. Her songs are widely used in American programmes and she has a very distinct voice.
