night yogi summer if you pop in
Good morning everyone
Sunny here but not that warm outside.
Yogi, I'm glad you had a good time with the tiddlers and that PB is enjoying school
There are concerns over the drop in numbers of tawny owls. People are being asked to take part in a survey lasting from tomorrow for 6 months by listening out for their "twit-twoo" calls:

I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone.
Chilly, autumnal morning. Arenât the trees beautiful in autumn?!
El, how sad that tawny owl seem to be dropping in numbers. I love owls.
Have a good day, everyone.
Good morning everyone, a beautiful morning again, probably a little chilly out but plenty of sunshine.
There was a lovely piece on the news yesterday, I think it was the local news, about a farmer who holds an annual charity event in one of his barns. He had a nesting box for barn owls up for ages without any inhabitants but just before the event was due to to be held he found a nesting barn owl. Rather than cancel he built a whole new barn to hold the event in and installed several more nesting boxes so that the old barn can be kept just for that.
Enjoy your day everyone
Yogi, that BBC article says that the conservation status of the tawny owl has changed from green to amber so of concern but that's in the UK. Seems to be less concern internationally.
Lovely story about the farmer, Squiggle

One might say, a bongo in the Congo, El
But then again, probably not

Sweet dreams gang I hope you each had a good day. Itâs been very busy here! But I did see strictly
I'm pleased your car passed smoothly through El
Good morning everyone
Cloudy here and not particularly warm outside.
Summer, thanks I had hoped the car would pass without a problem as there hadn't been anything wrong with it.
I hope everyone has a good day
A moderately interesting BBC clip on some foreign words where they say there's no equivalent English word:

Though cornerstone or keystone could fit the first word mentioned.
Good morning everyone.
Weather is dry, cloudy and chilly atm
Off to visit my parents this morning.
Have a good day, all
Good morning everyone, grey and cloudy this morning with a stiff chilly breeze.
Enjoy your day everyone
Good morning everyone
Very cold and breezy here. Cloudy and not looking like a very nice day
Yogi, have a nice morning at your parents. I hope they are both well
El, very interesting that clip
ðĶ are lovely but swans are my fav. So no surprises there then?
Have a great day Buddies
Yogi, I hope you have a nice time with your parents and that all is well with them
Moonie, besides the owl emoji, the release of a swan emoji is imminent- some operating systems are scheduled to do this some time next month, others between then and the end of the year. So you'll be wanting to keep an eye out for them. It's one of the batch of emojis being included in the emoji version 11.0. As my computer is on Windows 7 I'm not expecting to be able to see them other than as a small box with hedxadecimal numbers in.

I havenât had Windows on any of my laptops since Vista. I had the option of Windows 10 on my latest one but declined and went for a Linux OS again. Itâs a very simple and âbare bonesâ OS but I only use it for uploading and downloading my swans and animals videos really so I donât need anything sophisticated
My 10 year old Dell laptop is now deceased. Canât be repaired
But it has been a good servant. I used to use it 7 or 8 hours a day when I first had it
I now have a more up to date Dell
Moonie, the pc I had been having to use for the old job was also deceased at much the same time as your laptop. Mine was over 13 years old and I had used it every day for a similar number of hours as you. It was the motherboard which had blown and was corroding other parts so curtains.

Thatâs the same as mine El

Moonie, I think 10 years for a motherboard is good going. the 13 years for mine would be good going. Of course generally computers of that age would be so past obsolence that even if they could be repaired, there's generally little point. I think it likely I'll need to replace mine in a under 2 years (so 8 years old then) as Windows 7 suppport by Microsoft ends 14 January 2020. As I keep all client files on an external drive and virtually all the programmes I have are downloaded over the internet, migration to another computer should be relatively easy.
I've always used desktop rather than laptop as space isn't an issue and keyboard and screen arem't as small or confined as for a laptop.

To be honest I wouldnât have had a replacement laptop if mine hadnât expired. It worked fine for me right up until it didnât
I donât think I could spend many hours on a laptop now. I have no trouble with my iPad. It seems much more âMoonie friendlyâ
I still have my desktop and 17â CRT monitor in the spare room from my pre laptop days

Sunny but chilly outside here.
Moonie, your desktop and 17â CRT monitor could be museum pieces
Annual blood tests etc checkup at the doctors this afternoon.
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone, it's noticeably colder here this morning although still a bright and sunny morning. I hope all goes well at the docs this afternoon EL.
Enjoy your day everyone
Good morning all.
Weather is cloudy and threatening to rain.
El, I hope all goes well with your check up and blood tests
Catching up on housework and ironing.
Have a good day, everyone.
Thanks Yogi. I hope all goes well with your housework and ironing
On this evening's Out West on BBC1 (only shown in BBC's West area) is an item on Elaine Morman from the Forest of Dean. She is what is called a freeminer, someone who has the rights to extract coal and iron in her case from personal plots in the Forest of Dean. Until 2010 she wasn't allowed to be one as only men could. She took it all the way up to Parliament and eventually the rules were changed to remove the men only requirement.

Short extract on that link.
She says she's the only female freeminer at present. A short Wiki article on freeminers in the Forest of Dean:

Back from the blood tests etc. Nothing to report as such, doctor's appointment in 2 weeks time for the results. Also got a flu jab at the same time. It's the enhanced on which will be given to anyone over 65. I may be one of the first people to get this as the vaccine has only just become available and the campaign doesn't launch until the 8th.

Thanks Ros I find the use of words to convey meaning is interesting (semantics as used in the study of words rather than semantics as can be used in popuiar speech). If there isn't a word or phrase to use for something (an object, an emotion or whatever) it becomes hard or impossible for someone to express their thoughts. And that can cause all sorts of problems or misunderstandings.
