Channel 5's drama-documentary on Saturday - Albert: The  Power behind Victoria could be quite interesting. It's a straightforward programme looking at Albert's life as a driving force behind the industrial revolution, a leading influence on British culture, and a campaigner for the welfare of the country's working class communities and having to take a more active role until his early death.

It's narrated by Samantha Bond. Albert is played by Gareth David-Lloyd and Victoria by Olivia Hallinan. Olivia Hallinan looks rather like a younger Rachael Stirling (they aren't related).

That sounds like something for the History thread, El

Good morning everyone

Another sunny morning here but not as cold first thing as the last two days.

A working Apple-I computer has been sold for $375,000 at auction. It was Apple's first computer and there's hardly any of them around still working.

I hope everyone has a good day

There’s an old Atari lurking in our house. Think it’s worth auctioning El?

Moonie

Moonie, if it's one of the original batch of Atari 400s or 800s and still works it might have some value (not at the level of the Apple-I though). There are still Atari 400 and 800 enthusiasts around so even a later one might be of interest provided it's working.

My brother did have one of the original Atari 400s first batch in this country as he said it had a very low serial number. No idea if he's still got it though.

 Thanks El

I will have to find it and give it the once over

Moonie, if you look on something like Ebay, a working 400 computer could fetch around ÂĢ100 and a working 800 possibly more like ÂĢ300/ÂĢ400. The earliest ones are more likely to have higher value. They were launched in November 1979 so that may give you an idea as to the likelyhoof of being a really early one.

Afternoon we’re having an unexpected Indian summer! So yesterday I ended up grass cutting, cleaning out the shed and putting away the garden furniture etc..

they couldn’t fit my meters afterall because theres not enough space in my electric box. They said the next generation meters will fit in, so they’ll refer me for one of those instead.

The water butt did arrive though and looks beautiful! A friend of mine is going to install it for me

~Sparkling Summer~

Summer, well done on your gardening

Although it may have been a bit frustrating for you with the smart meters not being able to be installed, thare's a bit of good news as a result. I understand that with the older smart meters, they were tied in with the existing energy supplier. With the next generation smart meters I've heard that they are not tied in with the existing energy supplier so making it a lot easier to later switch suppliers with less hassle.
