Breaking news - UK mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe gets three days temporary release from prison in Iran.

At the time of me posting this, there's no explanation about this so it may or may not be good news,

Seems a bit strange to release her for a few days.

Looking at the BBC article it may be that it's a precursor to letting her out for longer periods of time. When she's out she's not allowed to speak to the media or go to any embassy such as the UK's or attempt to leave the country.

Hi Buddies

Back feeling what passes for normality these days

Rain earlier and more looking likely. Really quite cold too

El, good luck with the *biggie* when it arrives

Yogi, hope the visit too and the shopping for your parents goes well

Leaving a ‘hi’ for squiggle, Sweet and Rosss

Have a great day everyone

Moonie

Good afternoon

aw Moonie, here’s a great big hug for you you do well, be proud of yourself.

It’s cold here! I hate it. I’m not ready for cold yet.

We’ve got a bank holiday rush on, a lot of people are going away for the weekend. I wonder if that will make us quieter tomorrow? ðŸĪ”

you never can tell though, so we take it as it comes

what have you all got planned?

Awwww, fankoo Sweet

I hope it will be a little quieter tomorrow for you Sweet but I doubt it

Well, I have shopped for the weekend

I have no doubt I will find something to occupy myself

Moonie

So with the huge job having arrived here at lunchtime, the first thing I did was to turn on my old computer which has the client accounting software on, transferred the data for the year from their memory stick on to the computer, start running the nominal ledger report and then

Bang

The old computer's dead. I've taken it to my local computer repair place to see if there's anything they can do. Sounds as if it's the power supply but it could be that the circuit boards are fried.

Although I may be able to do the work on my regular computer, that would mean logging on to the clients' server and the issue there is how secure is that server? Unless they can be certain, it could be that I can't do the huge job.

Oh no El, that’s the last thing you needed.

Fingers crossed your local computer place can repair it for you

ðŸ˜Ū a box cakes

ðŸ˜Ū heck El, that’s really bad news about you computer

Let hope the computer shop is able to fix

Funnily enough my Dell laptop that is 10 years old is in for repair. Virtually everything has been tried so far with no success

I have a mate who has looked after my computer/laptop for at least 12 years. Good man knows his stuff

He reckons it’s probably the motherboard. No chance of getting a new one after 10 years. A second hand one would probably be a possibility off EBay or the likes but then you don’t know what you will get and the cost would probably be prohibitive too.

Sad to say my Dell has probably reached the end of its life

My mate did get me a secondhand Asus laptop which I am more than satisfied with as I only use it to upload and download pictures and videos. I have to say it much quicker than my old Dell

I would have bought a new one but I dislike anything that runs Microsoft so I use the Linux OS and apparently new laptops are not able to be converted to Linux. They have become wise

Apologies to everyone for this essay

Doesn’t sound good for your Dell  but at least you have your ASUS laptop to use

Thanks Moonie My old computer which has broken down is even older than your Dell, it's over 12 years old. It's an Evesham Micros one. In its day it was a top quality computer. The company ceased to exist quite a few years ago. Windows XP and I used the computer until Microsoft ended support for XP. If it is just the power supply, there's some chance it can be replaced. If it's more than the power supply, then rather like yours, it's probably reached the end of its life.

Good morning everyone

Quite sunny here but cooler than yesterday. Might get a shower later but less likely than yesterday.

For those of you who liked the film Born Free, BBC4 are repeating at 7 pm this evening a half-hour black and white documentary from 1961 "Elsa the lioness". David Attenborough interviewing the real George and Joy Adamson and featuring  Elsa. It was originally shown as part of BBC's Zoo Quest series.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone, a lovely morning with a bit of a breeze.  Oh no EL!  That's a bit of a blow, is there any way around it if your old computer has died?  Is it possible to run that software on your up to date computer?  I can see the security issue might be a bit worrisome.

Enjoy your day everyone

Yogi, I hope you have a nice time with your son

Squiggle, the problem is that the client accounting software I have used on the old computer is now only available online from the software company which therefore requires my client to purchase an additional licence for me as a user. Totally unfair as I've never used the software for posting any transactions, purely for obtaining information. Many accounting packages you can get from places like PC World would have the ability for an external accountant to be able to use the data for information without the need for an additional licence.

I had warned the client years ago that my old computer would one day become unusable.

In the last few months the client has changed the accounting system, still from the same software company, but this new system is installed on the client's server rather than each of the computers used by the accounts staff. That is the case as from the day after the year end I would be working on. That's also the case with the old system now. So I could access it from the client's server but need confirmation that it's secure.

It's not the same as cloud accounting systems which are becoming more popular. Although the concept is similar, the findamental different is that the server is on the cloud accounting sofware server rather than the business' servers and one would hope secure.
