Good morning I’m not sure if I’ve ever told you but when my alarm goes off, it says “good morning, rise & smile” and when I wake Bramble later, I say those words to her while rubbing her tummy. I love starting the day this way

what are your weekend plans?

I am loving having my friend here! She has announced she’s looking for a buy to let property in the area, which is brilliant news. It seems Durham made quite the impression on her last summer

~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone

There's been some rain here this morning and forecast to have showers for some time. Cooler than recently.

Client meeting later this morning.

Far too cloudy yesterday evening to have any chance of seeing the moon.

Squiggle, I think it has been quite windy, breeze around 25mph in my area though I think they said really windy in coastal areas. Met Office now showing thunderstorms in my area early evening which weren't in the forecast a couple of hours ago, and protracted rain tomorrow. No weather warnings for where I live but that could well change by lunchtime. I'm not complaining as the rain is clearly needed.

Off to see my clients in a few minutes. I won't have much excuse if I'm late as they live 4 minutes away on foot It's a straightforward meeting.

Watched a 1955 British film I'd recorded on the Talking Pictures channel called "Three Cases of Murder". It's one of those portmanteau films, in this case three separate stories.

Only the second one "You Called Elizabeth" is close to being a whodunnit and is the least of the three.

The third one was "Lord Mountdrago" and was based on a Somerset Maugham story. That's more of a pyschological story. The lead actor in that one is Orson Welles and it's likely that he directed it though not credited as such. One's view of that will depend on how much or not you like Orson Welles.

The first was called "In the Picture". That is about a mysterious painting in a gallery. I won't say anthing more about it other than if they repeat the film, it's worth watching it, particularly that first story, as it's unique. It could quite easily been part of the classic "Dead of Night" portmanteau film.

The only link between the three stories is that Alan Badel is in each of them though as different characters, though only a minor character in the second one.

Each story is introduced by none other than Eamonn Andrews before he started Crackerjack.

Watched a 1948 Hollywood film called "Miracle of the Bells". A press agent (Fred MacMurray) to carry out her last wish brings back the body of an actress to her home town for burial. Various flash backs of how he got to meet the actress and to help her. The actress was played by the Italian Alida Valli (just Valli in the credits). Valli's next film is the one most people would know of as she was the lead actress in The Third Man. Frank Sinatra was also in the film, his first drama role though he does sing a little bit.

It's quite a good film. What was of interest to me was that the actress had been working on a film about Joan of Arc. I don't know if the producers had in mind the great 1928 "The Passion of Joan of Arc" directed by Carl Dreyer which starred Maria Falconnetti in her only film and called just Falconetti in the credits. Oddly enough Valli looked more like Ingrid Bergman rather then Falconetti and about 8 months after "Miracle of the Bells" was released, the Hollywood "Joan of Arc" was released which starred Ingrid Bergman.

Good morning everyone

Sunny with clouds here, showers in the forecast today but not expected to be as heavy and frequent as yesterday.

Yogi and Ros, if you read the whole article about emojis you'll see the reason why the recycling one is so popular and it's nothing to do with recycling as we know it. Oddly enough, the emoji for not dropping litter is one of the least popular ones.

Summer, I'm glad you had a good weekend with your friend and her pup and hope the friend in hospital gets well soon

I hope everyone has a good day
