Good afternoon a cloudy start here but sunny now, and getting hotter & humid. 

 

I love weeding  

 

you won’t believe mygood luck this morning; I’ve been searching for months for a mr jeremy Fisher, 50p coin. And today I have found 2, within 5 minutes of each other, in 2 different shops! I’m thrilled!!! He’s always been my favourite Beatrix potter character

I think I told you all before that I went to The World of Beatrix Potter a few years ago. It was so magical, my middle DiL and I didn’t want to leave.

Locally we have the small Beatrix Potter shop and museum near the cathedral. It's at the building where The Tailor of Gloucester used to have his shop. His name was John Pritchard (1877-1934). He was commissioned to make a suit for the new mayor. He returned to his shop on a Monday morning to find the suit completed except for one buttonhole. A note attached read, "No more twist". That's true though no actual evidence that the work was done by mice.

 

The shop is a bit of a tourist attraction though not on the scale of The World of Beatrix Potter where Yogi went.

I heatd this by chance on BBC radio 6 a couple of evenings ago. It's from Virginia Astley's 1983 album "From gardens where we feel secure" which is a collection of music tone pieces of a lazy summer's day. This piece is enhanced by the sound of nightingales.

Good morning everyone

 

Grey sky and a bit misty as a result of yesterday's rain (10mm) though no rain expected today.

 

Although I and my brother had soft animal toys when we were children, there were only a few. My mother had lots of them in their house but as ornaments rather than as toys.

Good morning everyone, another beautiful morning but sadly, despite a yellow warning, we didn't get a drop of rain. We might get some light rain on Monday but I know the situation is getting critical for the farmers, and our local reservoir has low levels too despite the wet weather earlier in the year.

Its quite warm here already although when the sun goes behind the clouds you feel the benefit of the breeze

Squiggle, there are signs that the weather will become less settled laster next week though how much rain falls won't be known until then.

 

Yogi, I didn't ever have a doll, not that surprising. Never had something like an Action Man either as my father was a pacifist so toy soldiers weren't around. When I was a young child the toy I remember best was a simple wooden train engine which my father had made. When I got older it was things like a meccano set, wind-up train sets, and later Lego sets when they were introduced in the UK.

When I was a child we would go to visit my mother's parents for a couple of weeks each year. My grandfather had made a construction set made from metal, Each strip had 3 lines of holes down the strip. The first and third lines had holes on each side of the strip which were in the same position and the second line had the holes mid-way so a bit like:

  0

  0
0   0
etc
Screws and nuts, so some similarities with Meccano but different. He made them for himself, never attempted to sell the idea commercially.

Good morning everyone, clear blue skies and it feels fresher this morning with a cooling breeze.  I was struck at the start by what a beautiful voice Bethannie has EL and could hardly believe my ears when she said she had been bullied because of her voice.  A very worthwhile cause.

For those interested in botanical items which have been collected over the years by the Royal Horticultural Society they are going to be able to be seen by the public either online or at RHS Wisley in Surrey.

Good evening another Scorching weekend here, I’m waiting for it to cool so I can walk Bramble. We’ve had friends over for our Christmas bbq, which went down a storm- they loved it!
