It's been reasonably sunny here today if a bit breezy. Just been doing some garden clearance with the garden wheelie nearly full (though I haven't squashed it down). With the temperature forecast to get higher in the next few days I thought I'd do some before then. (and the wheelie gets emptied on Monday). Back to client work and another client rang while I was gardening to say she's ready for me to do her accounts. Busy, but not complaining and I've been telling people that I have a lot of work in (all coming in within a short period of time) and so I wouldn't be doing theirs straightaway.

I’m glad business is doing well, El, and I’m sure people won’t mind waiting when you have forewarned them that you are busy.

Well done Moonie One of my clients does things like fencing so I get him to deal with mine when necessary (and he charges me properly when he does work and similarly I charge him for his accounts and tax return - the days of not charging and doing freebies instead don't go down well with my institute).

Thanks El

I guess you do have to be careful in your line of business about freebies, it could be misconstrued

It's mainly to do with professional ethics such as the need to remain independent of the client.

On a different subject but with some similarities, yesterday I got a phone call from a mortgage advisor wanting to see if I was interested in working with him with clients potentially wanting mortgages. Mortgage advisors like doing that to get work for themselves and would pay commission to accountants for a successful introduction. What some advisors don't get is that if I did that I would be required by my institute to notifiy the client of the commission I had received and to pay it over to the client (unless the client was happy for the accountant to keep it. Accountants would be entitled to keep some of the commission which represented the time that they had spent in dealing with the client for that mortgage - but it's not supposed to be a freebie for accountants. Then there's now the GDPR issue - an accountant who gave clients details to mortgage advisors for them to market to the accountant's clients would have to clear this with their clients before doing so otherwise breach of GDPR privacy rules.

Good morning everyone

Sunny here and starting to get warmer.

The word 'unicorn' comes from the Latin for 'one' = 'uni' and 'horn' = 'cornus'.

I hope everyone has a good day and a special for Velvet.

Biologists at the University of Manchester have identified that the colour cyan (mid-way between blue and green) has an important effect on sleeping. Higher levels of cyan keep people awake, lower levels help them sleep. The use of cyan in computer graphics and phone displays is particuarly relevant.

 Happy Birthday to Basil

The organist at the church I went to when I was a child was a Basil.

Years later one of the partners at the firm I used to work for told me that he was Basil's son. I believe that Basil climbed quite a few mountains including quite a number of the Scottish Munros.

Good evening Summer

I’m lying on top of my bed, watching the Canal programme with Baz, EC and Ros

When I say with them, I mean in the thread, they aren’t on my bed with me.

How was your day?

I’m off to catch up on tonight’s episode of the Scandi drama, The Bridge and I need to concentrate on the subtitles.

Good morning everyone.

It’s a bit cloudy at the moment, although the forecast says the sun should appear mid afternoon.

We’re hoping to cut the lawns and weed the herb patch.

Have a good day, all

Sorry Squiggle, I should have said, Moonie mentioned it in the Five o’clock thread, not in here.

Yogi, or Snugglebox

I wonder if you grow basil in your herb patch (continuing on from yesterday )

Squiggle, when I saw Yogi's post on Moonie's bad eye I did a quick search to see what he had said. If he's still got it, he could pop in at a chemists and ask for advice as to which eyewash to use.
