Good morning everyone

Quite cloudy here at present but expected to become sunny for most of the day.

Yogi, I'm glad you had a good day with the tiddlers

Summer, I had wondered about that yoga programme when I saw what it was called. I hoped you liked your Christmas film

I hope eevryone has a good day

That's it.

We must have posted st the same time, sorry I missed this

Good morning everyone

The sun is shining and the forecast is breezy with sunny spells.

No plans for today, just catching up on housework and ironing.

Have a good day, all.

Good morning I hope you all slept well and have a good day today. I’m just about the house today too, I’m happy to have kept my calendar clear!

El, I’ve tried hot yoga and I love it, but that show looked a bit pretentious & lacked clear tuition for me- not what Yoga is about, IMO. There’s a lovely series called Yoga Zone that used to be on one of the health tv channels years ago, I still follow some of theirs that are on you tube, that’s much more my style

hows your garden looking yogi?

~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone, a lovely morning and a bit fresher this morning thank goodness.  I'm glad you had a good time with the little ones Yogi.  Enjoy your day of pottering about Summer.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

Summer, when I saw that the programme's title had a #downward-dog affixed to it I thought that seemed odd though I haven't a clue what that means. so I'm not that surprised when you found it pretentious.

I hope you have a nice pottering day

Yogi, I hope the housework and ironing are going well for you

Squiggle, as you say, it's a lovely morning and fresher It had been very cloudy here in recent days making it feel somewhat oppressive. I've just cut the grass. With other gardening I've done in the last week the garden wheelie is virtually full again

Evening all

It has been another sunny day - I’ve had to water the plants again

I saw one minute of the yoga programme last night, let’s just say there’s no way I could attempt any of that

I hope you’ve all had a good day

Well done on getting so much gardening done, you’ve been very busy

Yogi19

I love the 🧘‍♀️ emoji!!!! 💕 those moves they were doing were just showing off, and it’s very off putting for anyone who might have been thinking of trying Yoga for the first time!

i too hope Ros is having a fabulous holiday

El, I’d like a teleporting device!

i finished my business course today, woohoo!!!!! 🎊 of course the goals I have set myself will be ongoing, but the assignments are all finished and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s been a wonderful experience regarding spiritual growth too, which I wasn’t expecting, what a great bonus 🙏🏻🌈

i hope you all sleep well see you tomorrow

Good morning everyone

Cloudy here, there's a possibility of some rain this afternoon.

Moonie, well done on getting your gardening done

I can't see the 1F908 emoji re yoga posted here on my computer. It may be that it can only be seen on phones.

I hope Ros is having a lovely holiday

Summer, well done on completing your business course

I jope everyone has a good day

I recently mentioned the Michael Powell/Emeric Pressburger film "Gone to Earth" which stars Jennifer Jones. Although not one of their top films it does have some merit, particularly the colour photography of the Shropshire countryside. It's not often shown on television but Talking Pictures is showing it tonight at 21.10.

Good morning everyone.

It’s another sunny day

El, that emoji is one of the Apple ones, it shows someone in the lotus position.

Summer, the short section of that yoga programme I saw, looked incredibly difficult so I can understand why you think it might put off people from taking a beginner class.

Have a good day, all

Yogi19

Good morning everyone, a fairly stiff breeze has sprung up but it brings a freshness with it which is very welcome.  I can't see that emoji either EL.  I'm glad that course was so helpful Summer.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

Thanks Yogi for explaining that emoji  From what Squiggle is saying it does seem that it's only visible on Apple devices.

Summer, my plans for today were sidetracked by some bureaucracy - see my next post

El Loro

So the bureaucracy. This morning I got a circular email from my institute which they will have sent to all accountantcy practices registered through them. It was talking about money laundering regulations 2017 and something coming into effect from the 26th when my institute must approve all beneficial owners, officers and managers (BOOMs) in our supervised firms. As I'm already a BOOM with them I don't need to apply to them, that automatically carries forward. The significance is that any BOOM with an unspent criminal conviction covered the the money laundering regulations can't just continue in practice without getting it sorted out.

My immediate reaction was that it doesn't affect me as I have never had any criminal convictions in my life. But I carried on reading the email. From time to time the instiute carry out monitoring checks on practices and in future that will include a requirement to show that I don't have any unspent convictions. They strongly advise me to get a basic criminal record check evidenced by the 26th.

That's done via the Government Verify site. But I've never used that so the first thing I have to do is to get registered. Those of you who have registered fthat way for any government sort of application will know the procedure. As I don't have a mobile phone, the only option was Experian. So I've done that but needed to get things such as my passport, my driving licence and the month I moved into my house. I knew where I could find all those things so apart from going up and down stairs a few times I got that sorted out.

So I then got back to the basic criminal record check screen and carried on with the application. It's cost me £25 and the result should be posted to me in about a week's time. I would be staggered if it mentions any criminal conviction. But at least I'll have done what I've been told to do.

Besides the monitoring checks, the institute will require a sample of higher risk practices to provide proof over the next few months. I wouldn't expect me to fall in that category, those are more likely with practices with clients in other countries for example.

Posted on the BBC site yesterday:

Two girls have been discussing what words commonly found in Welsh short stories mean to them.

Lucy and Sophie were speaking after a BBC Radio 2 competition found Welsh children favoured words such as Tigers, trespassers and anacondas.

That Gone to Earth film on Talking Pictures channel may be shown on your programme guide as The Wild Heart. That was the title given to a cut version shown in the States due to a disagreement between Michael Powell and the producer. I hope it's the complete version which is 28 minutes longer though looking at the time slot it looks as if it's the cut version

El Loro

I've now been in contact with Talking Pictures who confirm that it is the shorter "The Wild Heart" so it's not the original film. From what I've seen about a third of the original film was removed by the producer who then added a prologue and some bits,

I suggested that if they could mention this before the film is shown. they think it's too late but would if they re-show it. I also suggested that they might see if they could get the rights to show the original film which is what viewers would prefer.

I also suggested that they might want ro see if they can get the rights to the third Laurence Oliver Shakespeare film. They've shown the better known ones Henry V and Richard III recently but not Hamlet. That one is rarely shown on television if at all. The man I spoke to says that quite a lot of the films they show have been obtained from ITV who hold the rights, and so Talking Pictures would show them on a temporary licence rather than owning the rights. Hamlet is as highly regarded as the better known H V and R III. I also mentioned that Hamlet is the first film where a certain Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee appear though not in the same scenes.

Afternoon all

It has been a lovely sunny day.

El, are the looking for specific types of convictions eg fraud or, any criminal conviction at all?

Not that I think you have anything to worry about.

Yogi19

Yogi, it's not all criminal convictions. If you are interested here's a list of those which would apply:
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/.../692/schedule/3/made
Although it includes the more obvious ones such as tax evasion it covers a lot of other things such as the data protection laws. Of course someone has to be prosecuted, tried in a court and convicted for any of these to apply so an offence would have to be serious enough for those to happen.

I already mentioned that I have never had any criminal conviction and haven't done anything to make me think that I could. I did once get done for going through a red light (now when I'm nearing those lights I don't go above 30 mph even though it's 40 mph as at the time this happened I don't think the amber light period was long enough before turning red). That type of offence isn't regarded as a criminal conviction in any case.

 You scallywag!

I once got a parking ticket because I was so used to parking in this particular car park on Sundays when there was no charge, and forgot they charged on Saturdays.

Shall we go on the run together.

Oh, and a professional accountant convicted for something like tax evasion, theft or fraud would get thrown out of their accountancy institute in any case.

I thought that would be the case

Yogi and El on the run trying to evade the law

Shocking

My dad only ever had one driving ticket in the whole of 60 some odd years of driving and that was for driving up a one way street the wrong way. They had recently changed the direct

Not really an excuse I guess but there you go

Last time I posted a link to some photographs of people in London, those were from the mid 1930s to 1960. This is a link to some photographs taken nowadays. It's headed "Brixton portraits celebrate life and soul of the street". They were taken by Charlie Clift and are worth looking at.
