By the way that postponed BBC's version of Agatha Christie's Ordeal by Innocence, having been reshot with a different man in it, is to start on Easter Sunday. Same writer as the previous Christie BBC adaptations of And Then There Were None and Witness for the Prosecution.

I won't be watching it as it will be too dark for me. Having seen the Donald Sutherland film version (the one with the Dave Brubeck score) and the ITV Marple version (not that it's a Marple story - ITV just added her in) it's too depressing. And it will probably contain 'strong' language as in the previous 2 BBC adaptaions by the same writer.

Good afternoon all

A bright, sunny day.

I’ve been out and about with hubby.

I’m a member of Dobbies Garden Centres and they had sent me a birthday voucher for free cream scones with a pot of tea for two, so we popped and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Summer, I’m glad you are enjoying your tour.

Squiggle, I hope it’s a bit warmer now

El, if it’s the adaptation of the Miss Marple I’m thinking of, I think I’ll give it a miss too.

Have a good day everyone

That was nice of Dobbies, Yogi

The Miss Marple adaptation was the second episode of the third series shown in 2007. It was Geraldine McEwan at that time.

It's not the final Miss Marple one shown in 2013. That was another one where her character was dropped into it - that was Endless Night. You might be thinking of that one as that was really depressing and unpleasant. Endless Night was also made into a film, the 1972 one which had Hayley Mills and Hywel Bennett.

It was Endless Night I was thinking of, El.  I didn’t enjoy it at all.

I’ve seen the Miss Marple version of Ordeal by Innocence, too.

Good morning everyone

Sunny and a frosty start here, forecast to cloud over this evening.

Link to BBC article on national insurance credits for non-pension age grandparents etc caring after family children under 12 while the parents are working.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43474081

It was mentioned on the news today. There's a link to where to claim. Could be of interest though possibly not that practical for intermittent caring.

I hope everyone has a good day

Sony have announced the various winners of this year's  Open categories of the World Photography Awards.

The most striking are:

I'm posting links direct to the individual photos rather than to all the photos as one of the other photos is of animal trophies. Note that if you close the picture rather than close the tab you get to see all the photos.

El, I love the pics you gave links for but not so keen on the last one of the full page. A bit dungeon like.

Yogi, I didn't like picture 10 either. It was taken on the island of Crete at the palace of King Minos. If you remember the Greek myths Theseus went there. The Minotaur was kept in the lanyrinths and anyone who went in never came out. That is until Ariadne have Theseus a ball of string and he trailed that on the ground when he went in and killed the Minotaur. The photographer got his son to wear a minotaur costume and hold some string.

The Talking Pictures channel is showing Oh, Mr Porter (1937) tomorrow at 10.30 am. It's one of the best comedies Will Hay made. A contender for the best pre-Ealing British comedy film.

Besides being an actor he was also an astronomer. His most notable sighting was that of the Great White Spot which occurred on Saturn in 1933.

Squiggle, the really bad thing about the current test match is that it was not that England were playing a country much higher in the rankings, nor was it anything to do with the state of the pitch or the weather conditions, it was incompetence - there was only 1 of the English batsman who showed any competence. If it hadn't been for him, England could have had the lowest ever Test score of any country - they were that bad.

I thought I'd compare men's and women's England teams for their current world rankings:
Cricket - Men 5th Women 2nd
(for the Men I've taken the average of their Test, One Day Internationals and T20 as the Women's rankings combine these into one table)
Rugby Union - Men 3rd Women 2nd
Football - Men 16th Women 3rd
Hockey - Men 7th Women 2nd

The number of countries in the tables is much the same for men and for women by sport so the comparisons are fair.

Yogi, I hope you've had a good day

Spent some of the day dealing with a mortgage reference for a client. Tried to contact the mortgage providers to clarify something and their phone number is out of action "due to unforseen circumstances". That's rather disturbing and I've had to tell the client.

I wonder what the  â€œunforeseen circumstances” could be.
