Good morning and happy st Patrick’s day! I hope you’re all warm and dry. I’ve woken up to a bit of snow here, but arrived before it started late last night Bramble is already obsessed with my friends cat but it’s good to be here

have a lovely day everyone I’m glad you’ll be watching the Durrells too

I’m glad you arrived before the snow, Summer

Hope Bramble doesn’t get too close to the cat

Good morning everyone

Snowed here overnight and light snow still falling. My local news website says it's worse then expected. It's not as cold as the previous Beast was. Local police say if you have to travel, do so with caution.

Yogi, yes, hay sufferers would have to avoid places like that

I hope everyone has a good day, stays warm and be careful if you need to go anywhere

Back from church. I trudged there and back as walking was clearly going to be as quick as getting the car in a condition to drive. There's a bit of thawing now as it's just above freezing.

My estimate of the amount of snow is 7 cm, so about 2ΒΎ inches. It's wet snow rather than the dry snow we got with the previous Beast. Squiggle, that's probanly why it appears to me more as wet snow takes up more room than powdery dry snow.

The 10.40 am train from Gloucester to Cheltenham was cancelled because of the snow though the 11.42 am train was shown as still on. Just to give you an idea as to the fact that this Beast has caused serioius disruption, worse than expected.

Squiggle and El, I hope your snow disappears quickly

Thanks Yogi

There's already been a noticeable thaw since I posted an hour ago as much of the snow on the pavement and road has gone. The snow on cars and gardens is still there but will have gone by this time tomorrow when it's forecast to get to 5 C. Being wet snow means that it won't stay as long as the main Beast.

I see that the English cricket season has started today. There's a 3 match series between the North and the South teams selected. The match started this afternoon at The Kensington Oval ground.

Before anyone goes I'd better mention that this is not the Kennington Oval ground in London, it's the Kensington Oval ground in Bridgetown, Barbados

Good morning everyone

Bright here and cold. Unlikely to get any more snow. Although local roads and pavements are reasonably clear now, there's still snow elsewhere, there may be some thawing today but tomorrow being warmer will get rid of what is left of the snow.

Ros, Faure's Requiem and Bach's St Mattehw Passion - as you say, gorgeous

I hope everyone has a good day and hope that the snow hasn't caused problems for anyone

My brother is intending to go to Manchester today as he's due to go on holiday for a week tomorrow with a friend who lives there.

It's not a good time of year to be going where they are going but his friend always arranges their holidays to avoid any significant sporting events. So at this time of year for football, the latest FA Cup matches and Champions League matches were over by yesterday and the next ones are just after Easter Sunday.

Why isn't it a good time of year - they are going to Krakow. At least the day time temperatures will be recovering over the next few days (the night times will be in the minuses throughout) - it had been extremely cold there.

Although the government is due to undertake a review of FM and DAB radio, the BBC has said that it wants to keep FM for the foreseeable future rather than switch over entirely to digital and would review things in a few years time.

My local BBC radio station uses DAB to transmit Cheltenham football matches on a Saturday and Gloucester rugby matches on FM if they are playing then otherwise they transmit Forest Green matches on FM. That's showing there's a need for both DAB and FM besides those people who don't have DAB radios.
