That's just the sort of food for this sort of weather
Many years ago when I was in the senior school, there had been quite a lot of snow overnight but we were still able to get to school. One of the other boys drew our attention to the road outside. And there was one of the science teachers skiing to the school down the road
love this ELI never remember a snow day eitheras achild

Good morning everyone
Cold and grey here. There's flakes of snow in the air but there are weather warnings for snow initailly yellow then amber for today and tomorrow. Weather sites show a huge variation of the amount of snow expected over the two days - between 2 and 9 inches. Blizzard conditions expected. I'm not going out.
I hope eveyone has a good day and stay safe
Good morning .
More snow overnight. I doubt we’ll be going out today.
Stay warm and safe everyone
Welcome to the first day of Spring
Yogi, I'm not surprised you are not intending to go out today
Good morning everyone, snowing here again and quite strong winds blowing the snow that has already fallen back into the air again, most peculiar. Hardly anything moving on the roads and of course they have re-scheduled my repeat prescriptions until Monday, I always order in good time. I hope Moonie's OK.
Enjoy your day everyone
Squiggle, that's a relief that you always order your prescriptions in good time to allow for weather events such as Storm Emma
BBC have done an article on the profitability of films which had any nomination for an Oscar since 2013 comparing those which had a female lead to those with a male lead.
On average, every dollar invested in a female-led film earns back $2.12 (£1.53). For male-led films this figure is $1.59 (£1.15).
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-43146026
The film with the highest return on budget was a 2016 film called Hidden Figures. True life story of 3 African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. I haven't seen the film but I think it's worth watching.
In case you wonder what the third film mentioned is doing there, apparently it got nominated for a song rather than anything else. It did get 5 Razzie awards though.

It’s a good job you’re organised, Squiggle

Interesting statistic, El
I haven’t seen the film, Hidden Figures either.
Yogi, I think Hidden Figures would have had a small budget compared to the typical blockbuster.
You probably didn't watch the Timeless science fantasy series last year. One of the episodes "Space Race" was about the Apollo 11 mission. One of the characters Katherine Johnson was a real person and was one of the three lead characters in Hidden Figures (different actress though). Other than that there's no connection between the series and the film.

No, I didn’t see that series.

No, I didn’t see that series.
I didn't think it would be of interest to you. Time travel back to past historical events (generally but not always in the USA) to stop the baddies altering events to their advantage. Though sometimes events do get changed so a bit of alternate history as well. And a shadowy organisation in the background.

I like the idea of the historical stuff but not the time travelling
So far, the amount of snow hasn't been that much. It's not snowing at present but there's another bout starting in about an hour which will continue to about 2 in the morning. Then there's a pause with bout 3 forecast tomorrow evening and throughout the night. Then another pause during Saturday day time until bout 3 during the early hours of Sunday

I hope you don’t need to go out in it, El.

night yogi not stopped snowing here since 3pm -hoping for a snow day night summer if you pop in
Good morning everyone
Snowy here. Not a huge amount but more to come. Virtually all schools are closed today including the secondary school I went to so no repeat of a skiing teacher.
There is a general warning that there might be power cuts but there weren't any in the county so far.
I'm not going out today.
I hope everyone has a good day and stay safe
Good morning everyone
No more snow overnight but there’s a blustery, icy wind which is blowing the lying snow all over the place.
Ros, I hope you get your snow day off work
El, staying indoors sounds like a good idea - even though I’m going to attempt to go to Morrisons and stock up. Middle son says the main roads are clear, so I should be fine.
Have a good day, and stay warm, everyone.
Yogi, be careful when you go out
Apparently here there was panic buying for food in shops leaving empty shelves. Hopefully you'll be able to get what you need from Morrisons
Good morning everyone, not snowing at the moment but no-one is moving and the warning from the police is not to drive. Do be careful Yogi, especially of black ice.
Enjoy your (snow?) day everyone
Squiggle, the police warning not to drive unless it's essential applies here as well.
There was a points failure on the railway track here last night which has caused lots of cancellations (not related to the item on the news about people stranded on a train for many hours due to the train breaking down).
How to dig a snow hole if you get caught in a blizzard in the middle of nowhere:

Good afternoon how are we all?
The snow has stopped here, but so has civilisation lol there’s no supplies getting through and the shop have empty shelves! Main roads are now clear though, I’ve cancelled my weekend plans with friends, better safe than sorry.
El, how’s your car battery now?
Summer, I hope the shops start getting supplies soon. At least in the south it's forecast to start getting less cold from tomorrow and snow will start melting.
I haven't tried the car battery since as I doubt if anything has improved. It's of an age when it probably needs to be replaced. So although I could get someone to help me jump start the car, there's a real risk of going somewhere and when I restarted the car to come back nothing happened.
Very wise El, deal with it when you know you can take the car out properly. I’ve left mine buried under the snow! Well, it’s visible, but I’m not attempting to move it when I don’t need it..
i’ve been in touch with Moonie and he’s not feeling well, but he is warm and safe I’ve sent him all our love
Thanks Summer for getting in touch with Moonie I'm glad he's safe and well I hope he's feeling better soon
Bout 3 of the snow here is under way and forecast to last to sometime this evening. Bout 4 is still forecast for Saturday night but might be icy rain rather than snow.
Afternoon all
We’ve had no more snow today and the main roads are pretty clear now.
Still lots of snow on the pavements and gardens.
My trip to Morrisons was reasonably successful. Most things were available butbread supplies were very low.
Summer, thank you for contacting Moonie and giving him our love. I hope he gets well and is back with us very soon.
Yogi, I'm glad you've been able to get most of what you wanted from Morrisons.
Still snowing here and forecast to last another couple of hours or so. It's not as windy as yesterday so not drifting.
