Walked to the local Co-op to do a bit of shopping. Cold but not as cold as it will be  later this week.

Could get some snow here between now and Wednesday but not expected to be a large amount. The forecasters say that this will be dry snow so very powdery. Not much good for anyone wanting to build a snowman.

The snow forecast in my area from Thursday afternoon comtinuing through Friday is forecast to be wet snow so sticks together. For those wanting to build snowmen, that's better.

I think there may be some technical issues on the Met Office site. Although they have issued warnings each day until Thursday around the country, at present there's no warnings for Friday. It's very unlikely that there aren't any as much of the country could be brought to a standstill,

Good afternoon very cold here but not much snow, just the odd flake.

Bramble has normal breakfast and seems alright, but she’s in a mood because I won’t give her a treat! I usually give her a dentastick after breakfast, but want to make sure her tummy is better first, her grump has lasted since 9am so far..

are you all warm enough?

Sweet dreams yogi I hope you have a good day with the tiddlers tomorrow

still no snow here, just the occasional short lived flurry. Bramble stayed in her grump all day, so I went out this evening and left her to it, she was much happier by the time I returned. I’ve told her she’s behaving like a spoiled brat and that I won’t allow it

ros I hope all is well with you, I feel like we’re passing ships lately!

Here's a logic puzzle I came across many years ago.

X and Y are two different whole numbers greater than 1. Their sum is not greater than 100, and Y is greater than X. S and P are two mathematicians (and consequently perfect logicians); S knows the sum X + Y and P knows the product X * Y. Both S and P know all the information in this paragraph.

The following conversation occurs:

  • S says "P does not know X and Y."
  • P says "Now I know X and Y."
  • S says "Now I also know X and Y."

What are X and Y?

Not suprisingly, it has been called an impossible puzzle given that the reader is not told what the the sum X + Y is or what the product is.
This Wiki article gives the answer and the way it can be solved.

Good morning everyone

Cold here. There was a brief snow shower early last evening so there's a bit on the pavements etc. Some snow forecast this afternoon. I'll do a bit of shopping today due to the forecast throughout tomorrow and Friday.

Thanks Yogi. I hope you had a much better night's sleep

I hope everyone has a good day

The reason I posted that impossible puzzle yesterday was because I was reminded of it by a puzzle my brother sent me.

The puzzle is:

"Albert and Bernard just become [sic] friends with Cheryl, and they want to know when her birthday is. Cheryl gives them a list of 10 possible dates:

May 1516  19
June   1718
July14 16
August1415 17

Cheryl then tells Albert and Bernard separately the month and the day of her birthday respectively.

Albert: I don't know when Cheryl's birthday is, but I know that Bernard doesn't know too.
Bernard: At first I don't know when Cheryl's birthday is, but I know now.
Albert: Then I also know when Cheryl's birthday is.
So when is Cheryl's birthday?"

There was a second puzzle:

Albert and Bernard now want to know how old Cheryl is.
Cheryl: I have two younger brothers. The product of all our ages (i.e. my age and the ages of my two brothers) is 144, assuming that we use whole numbers for our ages.
Albert: We still don't know your age. What other hints can you give us?
Cheryl: The sum of all our ages is the bus number of this bus that we are on.
Bernard: Of course we know the bus number, but we still don't know your age.
Cheryl: Oh, I forgot to tell you that my brothers have the same age.
Albert and Bernard: Oh, now we know your age.

So what is Cheryl's age?

The snow is very widespread because we have had quite a bit of snow down here too.  Roads are being closed, schools are shut etc, complete chaos.  I'm glad your brother came last weekend EL because I think that even by the weekend there's likely to be disruption on the trains.  Needless to say I'm intending on staying put, my repeat prescriptions are due to be delivered today, I can't see him making it through.

Enjoy your day everyone

Afternoon all

We’ve had a lot more snow as the day has gone on. I’ve got enough to make a family of snow people

Squiggle, I hope you get your prescription delivery soon

Shame about the car battery, El.

Summer, I hope you are cosy and warm too.

I’ve made homemade lentil soup and have beef stew cooking atm. I’m going to add dumplings to it later on. We need hearty food in this weather.

Thanks Yogi

That's just the sort of food for this sort of weather

Many years ago when I was in the senior school, there had been quite a lot of snow overnight but we were still able to get to school. One of the other boys drew our attention to the road outside. And there was one of the science teachers skiing to the school down the road
