Good morning everyone
Cloudier here than yesterday but dry. The risk of snow here on Monday night seems to have lessened but it will be colder than it is at present and will remain cold for many days.
Summer, I hope you find a good mortgage deal
Moonie, I'm glad you evaded the dragon but it would have kept you warm
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning very cold here but dry at present
what are you all doing today?
Summer, now that the 31 January deadline has passed it's fairly quiet workwise. The main work this month relates to two charitable organisations, one where I get a decent fee, the other is no charge. I may be getting some papers through the post today relating to the first so can make a start of that. The other is the examination of my church accounts (hence no charge). The treasurer could contact me anytime during the month to say she's ready for me. Other than that. it's the month where I weed out old client files and shred papers.
My local news site is carrying a warning from the DVLA today about people getting scam text messages asking them to provide them with personal details and "confirm" their credit card details. Don't know why it's been included today as the DVLA issued a warning back in June 2016.
Good morning all
Weather wise, itβs cold and dry.
Summer, good luck with the mortgage stuff.
Iβm off to visit my parents today.
El, thanks for the reminder about that DVLA scam. I recently had to renew my driving licence so might have thought it was genuine (for a second!)
Have a good day, everyone
Yogi, I hope you have a nice time with your parents
As you can guess, the DVLA don't send emails or text messages to people asking them for personal information or payment details. Their advice is to delete such messages and to only use their secured gov.uk site
I think it highly unlikely that Collateral starting on BBC2 Monday week will have any resemblance to Doctor Who but I noted from the trailer that the leads include:
John Simm who played The Master in several episodes (originally played by Roger Delgado)
Billy Piper who played Rose Tyler for a few series
and Carey Mulligan who only appeared in one episode -Blink- as Sally Sparrow, the only episode where Doctor Who hardly features, but is generally accepted as the best ever episode.
Good morning everyone, a little showery today and very cold as it is everywhere. I was lucky to see the super moon setting behind the trees on the other side of the valley. I took a picture on my phone but I don't think it will be very good as there were quite a few clouds which kept getting in the way. I hope you manage to sort out your mortgage and get a good deal Summer. Yogi I hope your parents are well and that you have a lovely time together.
Enjoy your day everyone
Squiggle, you may want to have a look at some of the pictures of the supermoon on the BBC site.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-42890838
There are 11 pictures but only the last 2 are from this country - the last of them is from Hull but that's the best of the lot IMO.
BBC article on why their Death in Paradise has continued to be popular:

This picture was taken by my niece's godson, I think it is outstanding
Squiggle, that is an outstanding picture and is equal to any on that BBC page
English cricket history was almost made when David Willey hit 5 successive 6s in the first 5 balls of the over but had to make do with a 4 on the last ball. No England player has ever got 6 6s in an over when playing for the country,

Iβm not liking it as much since Kris Marshall left.
Good evening gang lovely pics of the super moon, itβs stunning!!!! It appeared bigger here yesterday, funnily enough.
Squiggle, was that pic taken in London?
El, Iβm glad the pressure is off for you regarding work now. Are you planning a relaxed weekend?
Yogi, I hope you enjoyed your visit with your parents today
Evening Summer
It was a good visit thanks. How was your day?
Hi yogi are you watching an eviction?
Iβm glad youβve had a good visit I hope the snow hasnβt caused any hassle for them lately
my day has been steadily busy and pleasant thank you

Yes, itβs back on at 10.30pm.
No, the snow didnβt cause them any problems.
Steady and pleasant sounds good.
What are your plans for the weekend?
Happy evicting then! Whenβs the final?!
Tomorrow i I have a girl friend coming over for a pancake tea, itβs my first attempt at gluten free pancakes for her.
Sunday iβll be out walking as usual, probably falling asleep in the bath after, and then eating something naughty for tea lol
what are your plans?

The final is right now. Itβs down to the last two
Pancake tea sounds good. PB would approve
Is this a longer walk than last week?
Oooh tell me who wins! #exciting
yes, last week was only short so this week iβll be doing around 10 miles. Iβll be taking my flask and my brand new hiking pole! π€ lol Iβve never used one before but I thought Iβd try it, at the very least I can draw pictures in the sand with it lol

Iβll let you know elsewhere, in case Squiggle hasnβt yet watched the final
Haha, pictures in the sand sounds fun
Will Bramble be going on the walk on Sunday?
Thank you
yes she will, and she can run free for almost all of the route sheβs so good in the dark nights, I like to really reward her on our days off
hows keira these days?

Keira is okay, for an elderly lady. She sleeps a lot but is happy and eating well.
Going to get off to bed, goodnight and sweet dreams, Summer and Ros
Iβm going to nod off, sweet dreams yogi and Ros if you pop in

just missed you night yogi and summer
Good morning everyone
Cold, grey and damp here as most places are today.
Summer, yes, I'm relaxing this weekend. I hope you and Bramble have a lovely walk on the beaches and wrap up well
For those who are interested in past civilisations, there's been quite a discovery regarding the Mayan civilisation in Guatemala:

I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone
Wet but at least not to cold
Not planning on going out, as it supposed to be like this all day.
Weekend shopping all done yesterday
First of at least four footie games on
So you can see what my day has in store
Have a great day Buddies
Good morning everyone, very showery here today. Yes Summer the picture was taken in London, that's the London Eye you can see there and that odd shaped building they've nicknamed the Walkie Talkie. I think the guy who took the photo must be a professional photographer (I don't know him personally but the picture was posted by my niece) as I know he has prints for sale.
The result of BB was as expected. Amanda and Ann should have been the last 2 standing in my view but that didn't fit with the concept that BB producers had in mind obviously.
Enjoy your day everyone
Moonie, I had more than a slight suspicion that you would be watching football today

I think many of us are predictable in one way or other. For instance I predict that Summer will be eating pancakes on Tuesday 13th
Good morning all.
Dry with light rain forecast for later.
Squiggle, I am in complete agreement re CBB. Ann and Amanda were my Top2.
Enjoy the footie, Moonie
El, thanks for the link
Have a good day, everyone

I think thatβs what they call βa dead certβ
One of the more unusual headlines today on the BBC site:
"'Β£gregious' Youtubers to face consequences"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-42917180
Egregious is one of those words which have two opposite meanings. Originally it meant surpassing, renowned etc.
In John Milton's "Tetrachordon" published in 1645 he wrote:
"This is egregious doctrine, and for which one day charity will much thank them."
But egregious changed its meaning to flagrant or exceptionally appalling.
4 years later in 1949 John Milton again in a reply to the Belfast Presbytery, who had protested against the excecution of Charles 1, called them "egregious liars and imposters".
Apologies for these obscure quotes. I found them mentioned in my shorter OED and saw that the same person had used the word in both meanings.
A similar and more familiar word would be wicked where the correct meaning is appalling bad, but has tended nowadays to mean very good.
By the way, words which have two meanings which are opposite to each other are called auto-antonyms.
