Met Office has issued an amber warning for the wind for tonight between 19.30 this evening to 4 am tomorrow morning. Covers some of Northern Ireland including Armargh and Belfast, and England on the west coast from Blackpool north to Carlisle and eastwards covering places such as Harrogate, Stockton upon Tees, Durham, Newcastle under Lyne and very close to Scarborough.

Flying debris could lead to injuries or danger to life whilst some damage to buildings is likely. Some disruption to road, rail and air travel is likely and ferry services may be affected. There is a good chance that power cuts may occur with mobile phone coverage perhaps affected. Along west-facing coasts, injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, seafronts and properties.

Yogi, the sky here has been like yours, grey and dark. The first band of rain has passed. Storm Eleanor due to arrive here about 7pm this evening - much of the country has weather warnngs though much of Scotland doesn't.

I gave my parents a bone china tea set for their china wedding anniversary. I was a student accountant at the time so on a low income but I got it at a discount as one of the cups had a slight blemish on it. My parents used it just for birthdays and Christmas.

I’m sure your parents treasured that tea set.

I think it’s nice to have special crockery you can use on special occasions.

My Christmas stuff has been collected over many years.

Just popping in to post this new Nationwide advert. Apparently Flo & Joan have done another couple of Nationwide ads recently but I haven't seen those.

They are sisters, real names Nicola and Rosie Dempsey.

The song is rather charming in a silly way and made me smile.

 I’ve seen that ad

Good morning i too hope everyone’s ok after the storm. Lots of rain here, and dark & cloudy this morning

I have to dispose of my real Xmas tree- wish me luck!!!! then I’m taking my mum out for breakfast

I hope you all have a good day

Good luck in getting rid of your tree. Does your council have a recycling bit for Christmas trees?

Good morning everyone, I might have news of missing Eleanor, I think she's been here.  My cardboard recycling is all over the place. I wasn't sure if they might be coming to collect it yesterday so I put it out just in case. I know it's very flooded down by the harbour and we've had tremendous gusts.  Trouble is it seems to be so windy all the time you're not sure if it's a storm or just high winds again.  I'm so glad it seems to have missed so many of you.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

Squiggle, I'm not surprised that your cardboard recycling is all over the place due to the wind. In my area the recycling collection on Mondays was postponed from Christmas Day to the 27th (there was no waste collection scheduled that week as it's done on alternate weeks - the other week is garden waste but that's suspended during the Christmas period). But because  of the snowy conditions on the 27th, all collections were suspended and also on the 28th.

Council advice was haphazard and changing. They had announced that the waste collection due this Monday would take place yesterday and that was done.

But the food caddies and recycling boxes are a different matter. Normally that's weekly on Mondays for me. The council announced that the collection of Christmas Day rescheduled to the 27th would take place yesterday and that the collection of New Year's Day rescheduled to yesterday would take place today.

So everyone put the food caddies and recycling boxes out yesterday. They weren't emptied. I took mine back in the house overnight due to Eleanor and put it back out this morning,

Whether they get emptied today remains to be seen. The latest news from the council says recycling done by the end of the week but "may be later than normal".

amo, amas, amat, amamus, amatis, amant - that's about as far as I got with Latin

Ditto El, and I studied it for a year!

Much the same with me. Didn't help that the teacher was of the old school type. He was long retired, had taught the headmaster when he was at school, and was teaching Latin on a part time basis. Probably started teaching in late Victorian times.

Oh, and mensa = table though I don't know what Mensa as in IQ tests has to to with tables

lol My Latin teacher couldn’t keep the class in check - and we were (allegedly) the bright, well behaved ones. The boys ran rings around him and we never learnt anything.

The green recycling boxes have just been emptied but the food caddies haven't. Normally the recycling boxes are empried into the appropriate sections of the refuse vehicle - paper, tins, plastics etc. This time they are being emptied into the vehicle without sorting - that will be done at a later date. That would be why a separate vehicle would need to be used for the food waste so that the other recyclable items don't get ruined.

Squiggle, it's fairly windy here at present with gusts around 40 mph.

I've been delivering the church magazines for my round and collecting the annual subs this morning. I went past one house where besides the food caddy, there are 3 or 4 plastic bags with food inside them. Not all of the bags are tied up. As you can imagine it's rather smelly and is going to attract foxes and possibly rats. Although there are rats they tend to be elsewhere but clearly there's a health hazard.

Good afternoon it’s still here, but grey, drizzly and dreary

I hope you’re all having a good day, our back to school/work rush is getting under way now

We have the proverbial gale here. It’s worse than when Elenor was around

It's been very windy here but it's easing off. I think we may have noticed it more than Eleanor as that was at its worst during the night when we would have been asleep.
