Re the brainteaser I posted yesterday. My answer is:
The city where Indiana Jones found the holy grail (the Last Crusade film) was the ancient city of Petra
The leader of the argonauts looking for the golden fleece was Jason
The Modern Prometheus is the subtitle of Frankenstein which was written by Mary Shelley
The godfather of punk was the title given to Iggy Pop

The connection between the four names in bold is that they were all animals in Blue Peter.

Good morning everyone.

We got more snow overnight.

El, I only recently got an iPhone 6 as I tend to keep my phones for ages, so that’s good news from Apple.

Have a good day, all

Me too Yogi. I had my Galaxy S4 for more than 3 years until I dropped it into the park pool when I was filming our family

Needless to say it was a “write-off”

So I decided to go for an iPhone this time and went for the iPhone 10

My brain needs a lot of warning if it’s going to be teased

Yogi and Moonie . Here's another brainteaser from the same site they posted a couple of weeks ago.

The Wizard of Oz lasts 1 hour, 40 minutes. The Great Escape lasts 2 hours, 50 minutes. Starting at 10am on Christmas Eve, two friends watch one film each, on a loop. They stop watching when the films finish at exactly the same time. Will they miss the Queen's speech?

The Queen's speech is on Christmas Day at 3pm.

Thanks Moonie for prompting me to post this one - the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz is famous for needing a brain

There was a 1925 silent version of The Wizard of Oz. It does not have a good reputation. You can watch it on Youtube. I won't post a link as it's unlikely to be worth spending an hour and 25 minutes watching it. It was directed by Larry Semon who was a silent film comedian but not as highly regarded as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd or Laurel and Hardy. The only reason for mentioning the film is that Oliver Hardy appears in the film (not Stan Laurel - the film was made before their partnership started).

The first full length film set in the land of Oz was a 1914 film called The Patchwork Girl of Oz. It wasn't a success. Although a version of it can be seen on Youtube, I won't post a link as it's of curiousity value only and isn't in good condition.

The most interesting thing about the film is that Hal Roach and Harold Lloyd appeared in it. Hal Roach became one of the major producers of comedy films. He came into an inheritance and started making comedies. In the early days he produced the early Harold Lloyd comedies with Lloyd as a character called Lonesome Luke, who was clearly modelled after the Charlie Chaplin character.

Roach's name will be recognisable by anyone who has seen a Laurel & Hardy film as he was their producer.

I hear that Rose Marie has died at the age of 94. She was in show business for 9 decades.

She was a regular in the Dick Van Dyke show (1961-1966) as Sally Rogers, a comedy show writer in his work place.
The Dick van Dyke show was one of the few shows we always saw when it was on television. Here's one of the episodes:

One of the best American comedy series of all time.

Good morning everyone

Milder and breezy here, some rain overnight.

The answer to the Wizard of Oz/Great Escape brainteaser. WOZ 100 minutes, GE 170 minutes. Back to school days - the least common multiple of 100 and 170 is 1700. 1700 minutes = 28 hours 20 minutes. So starting on 24 December at 10.00 am results in an end time of 25 December 2.20 pm, 40 minutes before the 3.00 pm start of the Queen's Speech.

I hope everyone has a good day

Very grim news story from the States about how playing one of those violent computer games (Call of Duty in this case) online between two men lead the police shooting dead a third man who had nothing to do with the game
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/w...-asia-china-42522614

I don't play that sort of game as it repels me - I think it's a military shooting game originally set in WW2 though many sequels since. Games typically rated 18 because of realistic violence.

And yet everyone buys it for their underage children...

Good evening gang I’ve finished work for a couple of days, yippee!!!!!

My mum is feeling much better thank you. I was great yesterday but spent the night coughing and have a very painful sore throat today. It seems that every time I start to feel better, I have a relapse. But such is the case for everyone else who has it too I’ve never known a December like it

yogi i hope you’ve had a good day, are you celebrating Hogmanay?!

~Sparkling Summer~

Evening all

El, I’ve never played any of those computer games.

Aww Summer, it sounds like your immune system needs a boost

We don’t really bother with NY but we are taking PB to a panto tomorrow night, along with middle son and DiL.

At 22 months, BB is too young to go this year but he should be able to go next year.
