Good morning everyone, it's cold here too but no frost or snow, so probably not as cold as other places, beautiful blue sky with a few clouds.

I take echinacea to boost the immune system, it seems to work really well in fending off colds and is a natural remedy from plants.

It is the opening night of the Nutcracker and Tamara Rojo is running late. She’s also forgotten her ballet shoes. Fortunately there is a lost property room which has a box containing red, green, white, black and pink shoes, ten of each. When Tamara goes to the room, she finds that the lights don't work. In the dark, how many shoes does Tamara have to take in order to ensure she has a matching pair?

 

The answer is yet to be shown. I have two answers as it depends as to whether the shoes are new or used.

I posted that on Tuesday. The answer on the BBC website is 6. The rationale being that there are 5 different colours, the first 5 taken could all be different but the 6th taken would have to be one of those colours.

That's the standard answer for that sort of brainteaser. But that only works if the ballet shoes are new as then they are all the same shape. After they are used the shoes tend to mold to the dancer's feet so become left or right shoes. If they are used it would be possible that the first 50 taken could be all left or all right in which case a 51st one would need to taken.

Today's brainteaser from BBC's radio programme Today was set by Bobby Seagull. He was one of the more memorable people on last year's University Challenge. I have solved it but did need to do a bit of looking around to do it. It's a poem though the first verse isn't part of the brainteaser.

Two plus two is four minus one that's three,

Exceptionally dark clouds here - it's after sunrise time - rained overnight and still raining. A bit warmer than the last couple of days but the rain hasn't got rid of all the snow.

Apple has had to apologise for slowing down older iPhones and says it will replace batteries for less and will issue an app so that people can check on the phone's battery health:

Me too Yogi. I had my Galaxy S4 for more than 3 years until I dropped it into the park pool when I was filming our family 

Needless to say it was a “write-off” 

So I decided to go for an iPhone this time and went for the iPhone 10
