The Radio 4 programme has a daily brainteaser on its website.

Today's reads:
It is the opening night of the Nutcracker and Tamara Rojo is running late. She’s also forgotten her ballet shoes. Fortunately there is a lost property room which has a box containing red, green, white, black and pink shoes, ten of each. When Tamara goes to the room, she finds that the lights don't work. In the dark, how many shoes does Tamara have to take in order to ensure she has a matching pair?

The answer is yet to be shown. I have two answers as it depends as to whether the shoes are new or used.

Good morning everyone, I hope everyone's Christmas Day went well and I hope that your Boxing Day goes equally well Yogi, I know it's going to be busy.  It's a beautiful morning here, some clouds but also a tiny bit of blue sky.

Call The Midwife is just one of the treats I have stored away to watch as and when.  Little Women was one of my favourite books as a child, I have never yet watched a film or play that lives up to my mental picture although if I recall rightly there was a TV version with Dinah Sheridan as the Mom which was pretty close.

Enjoy your Boxing Day everyone

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire heritage steam railway has now been extended northwards to Broadway (the one in Worcershire).

It's hoped one day that it will be extended southwards beyond the present final station at the Cheltenham race course to join the main line to make it possible to get to the main Cheltenham station.

Father Brown will be pleased as he often uses that railway service.

Good morning everyone

A wet night here, the rain turned to snow so there's some on the ground but rather slushy. It's a couple of degrees above freezing and not expected to get above 4 today and tomorrow.

Woman in Pennsylvania got her electricity bill which was a bit of a shocker - $284,460,000,000. They had put up fairy lights and she was worried that they had been out up incorrectly. The bill should have been $284.46.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone.

It’s below freezing up here and yesterday’s snow has frozen solid.

We had a lovely family day yesterday - PB was very excited and noisy! Her uncles dangling and swinging her by her ankles (at her request!) didn’t help.

BB was a very happy chappy but, thankfully, not as noisy as his sister

Moonie, I’m so pleased you had a lovely Christmas with your sister.

Squiggle, I loved the book Little Women and Jo was my favourite character.

El, that poor woman must have got such a shock when she received that electricity bill.

Have a good day, all

Yogi, I'm glad you had a lovely family day yesterday

The book Little Women is semi-autobiographical and the writer Louisa May Alcott never contradicted readers who assumed that she was the model for Jo. Her sister Anna was Meg, sister Lizzie was Beth and sister May was Amy. It is thought that she was influenced by the diaries of her mother Abigail for the events in the book. That's all in the Wiki article on the book.

It’s good to know that the midwives will be around a while yet

i like little women too, I saw the movie before I read the book though

I assume you mean the 1984 version (Susan Sarandon,Winona Ryder) rather than the 1949 one (Mary Astor, Elizabeth Taylor)

That’s the one I remember Winona being in it

Good evening all I’ve had another stinking cold over the last few days, but am feeling much better tonight. My poor mum has caught it now though, so it’s my turn to help take care of her

i seem to just get over one bug lately, and then catch the next! I went back to work today, and another 3 customers were full of colds/chest infections

meanwhile, I can’t believe the weather on the west side of the country, I hope you’re all warm & dry

Evening all

Moonie, I’m glad you don’t need to go back out in the bad weather till Saturday

El, I love the snow teddy

Summer, one of the perils of working with the public is that you come into contact with all the bugs that are doing the rounds. Hope you and your Mum are soon well again

Squiggle, I hope your weather has improved
