Yogi, there's quite a lot of uncertainty about the weather tomorrow in my area. Rain coming from the south moving northwards into cold air. Where those meet is where it will snow. There's a yellow warning for snow issued yesterday with an amber warning for part of the country which starts about 30 miles to the north of me. The Met Office may change that early afternoon. The actual forecast shows heavy rain for the morning to around 10/11 where it becomes sleet, and by 11/12 it becomes snow, light to start with before turning heavy, and continues to snow for the rest of the day. If that forecast turns out to be correct, there will be big transport problems not helped by Monday and Tuesday sub-zero for much of the time. Becomes less cold on Wednesday. So if the forecast is right, one won't want to be on the roads unless essential.

Parked this money in Cheltenham on the top level of the car park. I noticed a very icy patch on the walkway just before to doors to the stairs. I mentioned it to one of the attendants who look after the arcade as it would be very easy for someone to slip. By the time I returned a traffic cone had been put there not that it stopped people from sliding on the ice.

It's a pay on exit car park. At one of the machines a woman was trying to pay. She seemed to be taking a long time so I went to the other machine to pay. The woman was still there after I paid so I asked her if she needed help. Turned out that she had only just arrived, was trying to pay for a ticket which would let her stay until the afternoon, and couldn't see why she couldn't do that. When I said that you pay when you are leaving as the latge notice by the machine clearly says, she admitted that she never reads notices. She rarely uses that car park, so hadn't realised.

The Talking Pictures channel showed the 1936 documentary Night Mail a few times last week and I resaw it yesterday evening. It's under 25 minutes long. British black and white about the Royal Mail postal train going from London to Scotland.

The first 20 minutes make it one of the best doumentaries ever made, And then the last few minutes make it even better and make this the legend that it is.

If you've never seen it make a point of seeing it when it's next on the Talking Pictures channel - Thursday 21st December at 20.05.

Afternoon all

Squiggle, I bet it looks really pretty with the snow on the tops of the moors.

El, it’s amazing how many people never read notices.

I’ll set the TiVo box to record that documentary.

Moonie, you’re sensible to get food in before the bad weather arrives.

Some good news about Keira’s hearing, she is no longer stone deaf and can hear us if we speak loudly. The ear drops she had must have helped.

Yogi19

Moonie, as Yogi says, you were sensible to stock up on food before tomorrow. I hope you don't need to go out again until Wednesday when it's forecast to be a bit warmer

Yogi, that's encouraging news about Keira's hearing
Re the Night Mail documentary, although the 2 people who directed it won't be familiar names to most people, there were 3 people involved who would be.

Music by Benjamin Britten
Script by W H Auden (who was also involved with the sound editing and was a production assistant).
And one of the film editors was Alberto Cavalcanti. He would later direct the film Went the Day Well and other films. If you've never seen Went the Day Well, it's well worth watching if you get a chance. It was made in 1942 and was about German paratroopers who, in disguise, had invaded an English village as part of their plans to mount an invasion. I assume it was made as a warning to people seeing that film. It's dark and for it's time quite shocking in places and quite believable.

Back from church. I walked there rather than drive. Fewer people than usual not surprisingly. Fairly wet snow but with the temperature forecast to drop, the risk is ice. I've just postponed a client meeting from Tuesday (-5 C) to Wednesday when it's forecast to be less cold and the ice likely to have gone by then.

A417 between Gloucester and Cirencester closed due to accidents because of the weather - that's always the most likely road in my area to get hit when it's snowy weather

Squiggle, I hope the rain isn't causing flood problems in your area

Good morning everyone.

Still no snow but everything is white with frost.

Popped in early with a message from Summer.

She has an eye infection and is struggling to see her phone. She is going to call the doctors first thing this morning so, hopefully, they will give her an appointment or perhaps prescribe something via a telephone consultation.

Have a good day and stay warm, everyone

Good morning everyone

Snow stopped falling here overnight though there is a possibility of some more over the next couple of hours. It's fairly wet snow and some has melted on the road and driveways but as the temperature is forecast to drop, it will become very icy with tomorrow morning being very cold. Temperature forecast to get higher during Tuesday night so by Wednesday morning there won't be much snow or ice left at this level.

Yogi, thanks for letting use know about Summer, I hope her eye infection clears up quickly Doctor may recommend something like Optrex eye infection drops.

I hope everyone has a good day and keeps warm

Good evening 👋 no snow here I hope you’re all enjoying yours and hopefully there’s no disruptions

i managed to see the doctor first thing this morning, it’s a rather horrid bout of conjunctivitis. He prescribed antibiotic eye drops and a strong antihistamine. It’s already making quite a difference I do look a state   but at least I’m on the mend already.

Have you all had a good weekend? I went to see It’s a wonderful life at the cinema on Saturday night (before this flare up) and it was lovely

Especially at the Tyneside theatre in Newcastle! It’s well known for being vintage, my first visit there has definitely left me wanting more

Good morning everyone

Coldest night for some time as elsewhere and sub-zero outside here. Getting warmer during the day and the snow and ice should have gone by this time tomorrow. I'm keeping warm inside and am not intending to go out today.

Summer, I'm glad your eye drops are working well

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone, it was certainly very cold last night and we've just had a rain shower but it looks like it's drying up now.  I hope it is because we are venturing out soon grocery shopping.

That sounds like good stuff the doctor's given you Summer, hopefully it will clear up in no time now.

Enjoy your day everyone
