As of yesterday afternoon, all Freeview televisions can receive the Talking Pictures channel (channel 81). Until now it had only been possible on newer sets. That also applies to older recorders.

That may be of interest to older people who used to go the the cinema in the 40s and 50s on a regular basis so let them know and offer to help them retune if they don't know how to.

On the bird theme, I witnessed something sad today.

I was in the kitchen and heard high pitched screeching. In my garden, a sparrow hawk had caught a starling and killed it, before flying off with it.

hate it when our cat gets a bird -if we are home we can usually save it-sad yogi

Nature is wonderful but (to us) it can, at times, seem cruel.

Yogi, I've been out doing some routine shopping, that alarm has stopped which is what I thought as the showroom would have opened by now. Getting better, it's more the aftereffects, I shouldn't be contagious now.

The power cut affected the city centre due to an underground cable fault with over 11,000 properties affected. I'm on the outskirts so I assume that why my powercut was a few minutes - it happened at about 7 so I think many of the neighbours wouldn't have known about it. Most users were reconnected fairly quickly, but 150 properties didn't get power back until between 8.30 and 9.

By the way, with Talking Pictures channel being moved to a different Freeview multiplex, that would affect all Freeview sets which had been able to get it. Unless your set etc is set to autoretune, if you had been getting TP, you do need to retunr otherwise you'll won't be getting it.

Good morning everyone.

It looks pretty damp, weather wise.

El, I hope that alarm stops ringing soon and you have no more problems with your power.

How are you feeling today, are you back to normal yet?

Moonie’s card writing has spurred me on and I’m going to make a start on mine this weekend.

Have a good day everyone

I do have a good effect on some people sometimes Yogi

Good morning everyone

Very cloudy here, it may brighten up later on. Hopefully less damp than yesterday which was a bit wet much of the day.

Milder than recently. Forecast at present is for it to be fairly mild until Thursday, then from Friday onwards turning cold, possibly for a very very long time.

I hope eveyone has a good day

Good morning everyone, another cloudy morning and we had rain overnight.  That sounds very unpleasant Yogi, does your garden have a lot of clay?  I hope the frost will clear it but it sounds as if it needs more drainage, ie spiking with a garden fork.

Enjoy your day everyone

Hi Squiggle. That’s exactly what is needed and middle son has offered to do it for me.

When eldest son built the lovely sleeper wall at the edge of the lawn, we didn’t take into consideration that it would impact somewhat on drainage - the water used to run off onto the patio but now stays on the lawn.

About the same here as yesterday, cold and damp though not so windy

Yogi, your lawn sounds like something out of one of those old horror films. The Black Slime

Lets hope it gets back to normal soon

Well done El for digging those masterpieces out

Some might not thank me for finding them

If I were to nominate one film which has a title reminiscent of a horror film which is a genuine masterpiece of international film making it would be the 1957 Japanese film called Throne of Blood outside Japan (the Japanese title means Spider Web Castle). Directed by Akira Kurosawa, it's based on Macbeth in the story outline but not text. Unless you are looking for a pure Shakespeare text to film version, it's the best Shakespeare film of all.

You do have a point there El

Akira Kurosawa also directed The Seven Samurai which other films like The Magnificent Seven, to mention one, was based upon too

I thought The Seven Samurai was just superb

And A Fistful of Dollars was sort of based on another one of Kurosawa's films Yojimbo

Good morning everyone

Weather is dry atm.

I think I need to invest in a new toaster. We have a four slice toaster but one side is burning the toast - even on the lowest setting, it is failing to pop up. I’ve had the window and back door opened for a while but my kitchen still smells of cremated toast.

I’m assembling my Christmas tree today but I’m letting the grandchildren decorate it tomorrow.

Have a good day everyone.
