Good morning everyone, a clear bright and cold morning, not much rain in the forecast I hope they are accurate this time because for yesterday the forecast was for a dry day and it was anything but.

Squiggle, I think there's a better chance today that you won't get any rain compared to yesterday, the rain seems to be restricted mainly to the south coast.

My a/v s/w scan today has found numerous issues. I've been recommended to get rid of the files. As many of these are window files there is every likelyhood that my computer will cease to operate. So I may not be able to get on here for many days.

The a/v s/w wouldn't let me delete those files. So I rang my computer shop again who advised me to turn off the computer, restart and do another full computer scan. That's currently in progress but so far no threats identified. I had another look at AVG's page on something called Linus/Miner which is an adware thing. At the bottom of the page were a number of user comments over the last couple of hourse from people who have had the same message I was getting. It rather looks as if AVG's previous update had resulted in the false warnings but that the most recent update had corrected this.

So it looks as if for the second time in a month AVG updates have resulted in either error messages (what I was getting a month ago) or false security messages.

For anyone who uses AVG, if you do get unexpected messages from the s/w do an update (from options). If that shows a more recent update than when the scan was done, if the message was an apparent security issue, do a whole computer scan to see if that issue is shown again.

Thanks Moonie The full computer scan was clear so I think that, and supported by the user comments I read, that it was a faulty AVG update which caused the problem. Only computers where the routine scan was done after the faulty update but before the correcting update would have had the security messages so only a proportion of AVG users rather than all.

Crikey El! That’s a lot of work and a fright I’m very happy it was just an update error and that all is well with your computer, phew!

Thanks Summer I'm fortunate in that as my a/v s/w is through my local computer shop, I've got people on hand to talk to (provided they are open). It's a bit concerning though that this is the second mistake by AVG in a month.

Squiggle, they are rather disconcerting. A false positive on a scan for one file is one thing but to have it on 53 files in the main Windows System32 directory is rather different.

Today's scheduled scan on my computer has found no threats so yesterday was just a false alarm

Lol I made it safely out of the attic 👍 I resisted putting up my own decorations, but they are in the spare room waiting for me. I’ll do it next weekend or near after 🎅🏻🎄🎉
