Good evening Buddies

We have had a cold day here today. This evening seems like it’s going to get even cold

Time to dig out my super duvet I think

Have a great evening everyone

Hi Moonie

Definitely time for the warmer duvet

Hi Yogi

I put my upgraded duvet on last night and I was as snug as a bug in a rug

Moonie

Moonie, I'm glad that you were warmer last night

Squiggle, I hope the weather improves for you It's rainy here but, so far, not heavy.

Client meeting went OK  and I've got her papers and spreadsheet to do her accounts. On the way back I had to stop at the lights at a busy roundabout as they had just turned red, The driver in the car behind me wasn't concentrating and bumped (lightly) into the back of my car. One of those cases were that driver was 100% responsible. No visible damage though I've got her details. I've checked that all the lights are working as they should and got the tyres checked to be on the safe side.

The local news pages on the BBC website seem to have changed. On the news top page there's a tab for local news. Clicking on that goes to a page of stories based on the distance from your selection that you can control. This is assuming that you are logged in and that you've got a location selected. There's no longer any mention of which location you've opted for unless you go on the local news page or the weather forecast.

Good morning everyone.

Weather was bright with blue sky on the way to PB’s nursery this morning but it has clouded over.

Sleepover was shorter than usual as son is going to be around to mind the children. I dropped off PB at nursery then dropped off BB at home.

We had a fun time last night watching Trolls movie on dvd, snuggled up together in the “owl” bed. (Christmas bedding will be going on for the next sleepover)

PB has obviously seen the film a lot of times before as she not only knew the words to all the songs, she knew most of the script. BB was funny, when the songs came on he stood up in the bed to dance. He loves music and dancing.

El, the sheep story is interesting, especially as further research might help with diseases like Parkinson’s and Huntington’s

I really hope the stained glass window won’t get vandalised.

Moonie, good to hear you were warm and cosy with your winter weight quilt on.

Squiggle, I hope your blue skies stay with you for the rest of the day.

I hope Summer is having a fab time with her friends and relatives

Have a good day everyone.

After a week's delay from the huge client I've now got the information I was waiting for. So it's all systems go. Will take me several days to go through. Client made some postings to the original data without telling me until this afternoon. So I've spent the bulk of the afternoon working out the effect of thos postings and amending all my workings for that. Although the amounts involved are small, I have to change my workings otherwise it will cause differences between the official accounts and the client's accounting records. I've made a note of the time spent on this as I will be charging them extra.

Yogi, yes, there are times of the year where there's not much work to do and others such as at present where it's busy. I don't do lots of overtime though and although I'm busy it's well under control. I have already told the smaller clients and they are relaxed about it. The deadline for the huge job is well before the deadline for people's tax returns. The reason for not doing loads of overtime is that if you are tired you are more likely to make errors which is not good if you are doing tax returns.
The deadline for tax returns is 31 January so quite some time to go for those. Although I do have some clients who are always latish, it's only a small number. There's only one of them where there's an additional complex factor this year. I asked for the information months ago and have yet to receive anything. If he turns up with the information too late then I'll tell him that his return won't get filed by the deadline.

Moonie, only if I had hedgehogs and squirrels for clients. Looking at HMRC's list of acceptable reasons for late tax returns there's no mention of hibernation being regarded as acceptable

On a more serious note, HMRC don't regard as an acceptable reason where a tax payer says that their accountant has let them down. That might be different if the accountant had suddenly become incapacitated or died shortly before the deadline if the tax payer could show that they had been timely with providing the accountant with the necessary information. It's considered a good idea for professional accountants to have emergency cover should such an event occur but obviously there would always be a delay as a result. People to do tax returns but aren't members of a professional accountancy organisation are less likely to have any emergency cover.

I eventually got back from that client meeting which went on rather longer than I had hoped. She was trying to find things like P60s and interest certificates, What she had set aside for me was payslips and interest certificates from previous years. Eventually as a last resort after looking through things I found them.

In a pile of papers she had marked as "not for accountant"

Just a thought El

Hi Buddies.

Mr Yogi did not change his mind, so the trip to Costco went ahead.

Middle son and DiL joined us.

El, I would think your clients are very happy to have you as their accountant. I know I would be.

Squiggle, with all the rain we’ve had, I’m thinking of building a boat - then you can come aboard.

Moonie, I hope you didn’t get blown away when you were out and about.

Hope you are all having a good day.

Sorry Moonie, I didn’t realise you were around, I was in the MC thread.

Uneventful can be a good thing
