And now for a two part film question.

1 for one point who is connected with these films : Rebecca, Suspicion, Spellbound, Strangers on a Train, and North by Northwest

2 for the other nine points who else is connected with those films, excluding the wife of the first.

I seem to be the only one here with fair weather - it's quite sunny here now and only a slight breeze.

Yogi, you are correct with question 1 As far as question 2 is concerned I deliberately ruled out Hitchcock's wife Alma Reville who frequently worked with him on many of his films in one capacity or other, generally with the script. It is an actor who is best remembered for one role not in a Hitchcock film. There was a recent film version where his character was played by a well known English actor.

Re that scam tax phone call I had the other day, I've since found out that other people locally have had the same phone call. The local police put out a warnng for this. I had a word with the vicar, as others in our parish have been rung, and she's going to give a warning to people at tomorrow's services.

I think that these criminals target a specific area before moving on to another.

Good afternoon everyone

We have a breezy and cool day here. Very cold earlier in but moderately better now

Shopping done, washing on the line. Me fed and watered

Time for some relaxation(being idle) time methinks

Hope you all have a great weekend

I like Hitchcock films, my favourites are Rear Window and Dial M For Murder.

I know Cary Grant was in some of those films you mentioned but I’m sure he wasn’t in Rebecca. The only person I can think it might be, is the actor who played Waverly in The Man From Uncle but, I don’t know the actor’s name.

Good idea to have your vicar mention this scam.

I always warn my parents if I hear of any new scams doing the rounds.

Spot on, it's Leo G Carroll, one of those actors whose appearance stayed much the same over the years. Him in Suspicion (1941):

and then from 1964 in one of the early Man from U.N.C.L.E episodes:

Yay, that’s who I meant. I’d never have gotten his name though.

Yogi, I watched probably all the Man from U.N,C.L.E, and the Girl series when I was young and also North by Northwest which was Carroll's best known role in a Hitchcock film so his name is easy for me to remember

I used to watch The Man From U.N.C.L.E too but I couldn’t remember his real name

Good morning everyone

As the clocks have changed I may find that the time shown on this post is an hour out. It's something which happens on this forum but it's only temporary for an hour or so. So We could see a time of 9.29 for this post and a post half an hour later 8 ish

Fairly cloudy though bits of sunshine and a northerly wind making it cooler than recently. Widespread frost is expected tonight.

I hope everyone has a good day

El Loro

Good morning everyone, a nice bright morning with a bit of a breeze.  Very confusingly I woke up just as the clocks changed! Very unsettling.

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend,

squiggle

Squiggle, that would have been at 2.00 BST/1.0 GMT and I can see why that would have been very unsettling for you. I hope you were able to get back to sleep

Yogi, it always seems to take some time to readjust to the changed hour. Although I understand why people in the north of the country want the hours changing, in the south it does seem a bit pointless.

The vicar mentioned the tax scam phone call to the congregation this morning at church. She's had an email from someone in church thanking her for the warning. When the parishioner got home from church there was a message on her phone that HMRC were issuing a court judgement against her and to ring a given number. So she realised this was a scam and deleted it, knowing that was the thing to do rather than panic.

Good morning everyone

Fairly bright weather here, not a warm day outside.

Local meeting with a client this morning, just getting his signature on his tax return so not too complex

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning and yay- emoji's!!!! 😁👏🎉🎃👻🕸🕷 I LOVE them 💖

I hope youve all had a good weekend 🤗 sorry I haven't been around, my guests have kept me very busy. On Friday night I had 7 extra people sleeping in my house. Needless to say, I had a lot of washing up to do and the bedding laundry is ongoing...

its been lovely seeing everyone though

Good morning everyone

A frosty, bright day. I like this type of autumn weather

Ros, I think Mollie will be safe next week as she’ll probably get a bounce back vote.

Ruth needs to go before Mollie.

El, I’m sure the client meeting will go well

Summer, I’m glad you enjoyed your time with your visitors

Have a good day everyone

Tomorrow's episode of Doctors could be very strange. They generally do a Halloween special on October 31 each year. Very variable and it's impossible to guess what they'll do tomorrow. Sometimes it's a haunted house, sometimes rather like a M R James ghost story, sometimes more like one of those Hammer horror portmanteau films. It tends to be a one-off unconnected with any ongoing story, quite likely nothing to do with patients, and quite possibly very unreal.

If you don't know what a portmanteau film is, it's a collection of short films brought together with a unifying film. Outside the Hammer films, the film Dead of Night (1945) is the most famous and easily the best portmanteau film.

Good evening gang 👋

El, if you need any emoji's translating, please do ask 👍

I agree with yogi's view on Molly in strictly, and I think she's back to ballroom next week, which she's much more comfortable with, so she should do well 💃🏻🕺

Good morning everyone

Bits of blue sky here, not as chiilly as yesterday, there was a bit of rain earlier.

Watched the final episode on Inspector George Gently yesterday. Very sad and downbeat. If you have recorded it, you'll want to watch something more cheerful afterwards.

I hope everyone has a good All Hallows' Eve

Good morning Buddies

Quite cool with a gentle breeze here this morning. Still better than the sharp frost we had yesterday. The field at the bottom of our garden was white all over

Happy Halloween

Have a good day everyone

Moonie

Good morning I hope you all slept well 🤗 it's damp but warmer here too. I love the frosts ☺️

Moonie its good go see you back, are you feeling better?

happy halloween everyone! 🎃👻🦇🕷🕸💀😈

Scott House where Sir Peter Scott lived is to be opened to the public at the Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Gloucestershire.

Sir Peter Scott was the pioneer of nature conservation. Besides founding the trust he also founded the World Wildlife Trust.

A 1962 photo of him at Slimbridge.

And that of course is David Attenborough with him.
