Good morning everyone

Cloudy and a bit rainy here.

Summer, I'm glad you have had a good time with your mum and that you have a nice time at your sister's

Radio 4 is starting a dramatisation today of John Reed's "Ten Days that Shook the World", his eye-witness account of the Russian revolution which took place 100 years ago this month.

The Russian film director Sergei Eisenstein made a drama-documentary of the book in 1927/8, Silent black and white with music by Dmitri Shostakovich whch was added years later. I saw the film years ago and it's almost like watching the actual revolution.

It's on Youtube and is worth watching by those interested in such matters,

She had an upset tummy today but that is down to eating something she shouldn't have!  Otherwise, she is doing fine, thanks Moonie

Awww poor Keira

We know another little furry one who does that, don’t we Yogi?

Well, as long as Keira is doing well, that’s the main thing

It has been raining.

El, I'll check out that YouTube clip later. The Russian Revolution was something I studied at school.

Summer, I hope you have a fabulous time at your sisters and your mum has a safe journey home.

Keira's tummy upset is over and she has eaten her breakfast.

Have a good day everyone.

Yeeey! wtg Keira

That film is also known as ОКŅ‚ŅÐąŅ€ŅŒ. Although that's in Russian, the English word is fairly easy to work out. By the way, Lenin is played by Vasili Nikandrov though he looks so like Lenin it would be easy to think that it is Lenin.

It is El?

I'll give you a clue, the revolution took place 100 years ago this month and is also named after this month

Good morning everyone, a nice bright dry morning, I can't remember what the forecast was, something dire as usual I expect, but so far it's looking good.

I'm glad Keira is eating normally again, it goes to show that her appetite has picked up that she would eat something she shouldn't!  I hope BB has made a full recovery too.

Enjoy your day everyone

Any of you getting phone calls from someone with what sounds like a Chinese accent saying they are doing a lifestyle survey? I don't let them start asking questions, tell them that I don't do such surveys and put the phone down on them. This is happening every day for the last week or so. Number starts with 0298365 but the ending varies, so far 0999, 0666 and just now 1206.

Whatever you do, don't say "Yes" to them if they ring again in case they are scammers trying to con you into some agreement without your knowledge (by recording what you say, snipping the "Yes" out and putting it into the agreement as verbal evidence. It's not known if this has actually happened in this country but there were warnings about this earlier in the year.

Thanks El, I shall remember that

Usually I don’t answer calls that I don’t recognise the number or withheld ones either. But one little slip

Moonie

Just come back from seeing a client. She's a new one and normally I've stopped accepting new clients but this was an exception as it was clear that she was in distress and had been recommended by another client. She had received a totallly unexpected bill from HMRC of quite a large amount. From what she said to me on the phone I guessed what had caused this and I warned her right from the beginning that it was probably correct.

What had happened was that her husband had died, she had then started getting some of his old firms pension besides her own smaller firms pension and her state pension. The company paying her the husband's pension had used an incorrect tax code - she was getting a full personal allowance against that pension even though her allowance had been used against her state pension and her own pension. That shouldn't have happened but it did.

I've been able to explain to her what had happened, confirm that HMRC were correct, give her an idea as to what impact it will have on her income from next April when the HMRC start collecting the unpaid tax, and check that her tax codes for this current tax year are the correct ones.

El Loro

Moonie, for some reason, the husband's pension provider had not realised that she had another pension nor even a state pension. Their system had clearly failed. What should have happened was that they should have sent her a form to complete giving details of het other pension and state pension. She can't remember doing that though of course her husband had just died. If she had completed the form correctly they would have given her a BR code (which means tax would be based on the gross which would have given the right amount). If they never got the form they were supposed to use a 0T code (which is effectively the same as a BR code). Instead they used a 1100L code, the personal allowance.

I didn't tell her but that firm's pension provider had little excuse and can't claim ignorance when I say that her husband's old employer is one of the most famous and biggest companies in the country.

*night owls* good evening from Ibiza! I'm here for a few days of R&R, and have spent a very enjoyable evening with my niece, who I absolutely adore!

El I really feel for your new client, that's a very stressful situation! I hope they give her time to pay what it owes and realise that it's not her fault. As if she hasn't got enough going on with grieving

big hugs for you all

~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone

Fairly cloudy here and a bit breezy.

Summer, I hope you have a lively time in Ibiza

Yogi, I hope you have a pleasant time with the tiddlers today and that you don't catch BB's cold

My client willl pay the tax through next year's tax code so spread over 12 months. I worked out for her the effect on her income during that time.

I hope everyone has a good day

Not good El

Moonie

Good morning everyone

Breezy but dry here so far. First lot of washing on the line

Yogi, good to see BB is a little better. I hope you have a great time together

Oh,  for BB, can’t leave PB out so for her too

Hi squiggle, I hope you get some dry stuff soon

El, I don’t know how your brain copes with all those figures and calculations

Have a super day Buddies

Moonie

Squiggle, sounds as if you could do with some dry weather, I hope it gets better for you

Moonie, sounds as if you;ve got perfect weather for getting your washing dry I was lucky to be born with a mind which could understand figures and be able to explain to people.

If anyone watched Pointless Celebrities on Saturday, the first round was about classical composers with the clues given in haiku form (first and third lines 5 syllables, second line 7 syllables). Had to work out the surname of the composer and the first letter was given. The contestants were all connected with the arts, typically presenters on television and radio. There was a bit of a howler by Will Gompertz, the BBC arts correspondent, the one who looks extremely brainy. His answer to the question on which Italian composer's name translates to Joe Green in English and starts with V was Vivaldi. Although a common mistake, not the sort of mistake one would expect him to make.

Lot one of washing dried. Lot two was out. Now rain, lot two back in and lot three in the washer

You have put it to good use too El. More power to your elbow

Moonie

For centuries, farmers have grazed their cattle on Rodborough and Minchinhampton commons in the Stroud area. That's as their name indicates, is common land open to all. They've won a legal case and are entitled to backdated payments for subsidies from DEFRA (the government department responsible for such matters).

That will apply across the country so of major interest to a lot of farmers.

(and although the article mentions Gloucestershire, the BBC site has wrongly put this on the Wiltshire pages, not the first time the BBC has made a geographical error).

Evening all

I had a good day with the tiddlers. BB had a runny nose but was otherwise back to his sunny natured self.  PB was on good form too.

El, I'm glad you were able to sort things out for that lady, and the repayment will be over a period of time, rather than all at once.

Shame you didn't get all your washing dried, Moonie. I passed on the hugs

Summer, I hope you are having good weather in Ibiza and plenty of R&R.

Squiggle, I hope your weather improves soon.

That’s good news indeed on all fronts Yogi

Yogi, in the end the weather turned and the sun came back again

I managed to dry 3 lots of washing in the end
