Off to a funeral later this morning. Elderly man who was the treasurer for a time of a local community organisation for some years and I did the annual accounts. The organisation closed down quite some time ago. He said that he rembered me from the days that he worked in the Gloucester office of the accountants I worked me while I was in the Cheltenham office though I can't say I remembered him from then. Over the years there were a couple of times when I went to a course in the Gloucester office and so I assume he saw me then as I never worked with him. He lived nearby as I found out when I started delivering the church magazine to him. It was always difficult having a convesration with him as he was profoundly deaf. That's why when it was the AGM of the organisation I had to present the accounts to those who were there on his behalf.

Yogi, sends thick thermal blankets to you so that you can have your own heatwave

THanks El, I'm sure they'll come in handy at some point.

Afternoon all.

Sunshine and showers up here. Keira and I managed to get out for a walk between showers.

Tonight El, you have a dental appointment you can look forward to.

Moonie, I don't think I'm getting the heatwave.

Squiggle, I hope you are having a good day.

Hi Yogi

Glad you and Keira managed a walk out

I have just seen the weather forecast for Scottyland for next week. It's looking very good

23 degrees as far as the north of Scotland

So methinks you won't need El's thermal blankets after all

In that case, I'll buy an extra bottle of Factor 50

Good idea Yogi

Thanks Summer, the funeral went well though there weren't as many people there as I had thought there might be. The funeral was at our church and the vicar lead the service. The bible reading was 1 Corinthians chapter 13 which is one of the greatest readings from the bible:

I've heard it many many times over the years. Her reading was the best I've ever heard. There are many Youtube clips of that chapter but I couldn't find any to be as good.

El, that's one of my favourite bible readings and I had it at my wedding.

Eldest and middle sons had it at their weddings, too. On both occasions, my dad did the reading for them.

Thanks, Summer

For some reason I've never got around to watching The Color Purple though I know it's a good film. I have seen The Sugarland Express. It was Speilberg's first feature film which he made after he got recognised for his television movie Duel (although Duel did get a cinema release in a re-edited version some time after he made it for TV). The Sugarland Express was a crime drama and definitely not a comedy even if it starred Goldie Hawn.

Good morning everyone

Sunny and warm here.

No need to apologise, Yogi I hadn't seen your post about that reading being one of your favourites and used at your wedding and also at your sons so I should be apologising to you as well . Not surprisingly that chapter is often known as the Love Chapter.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning, everyone.

Weather is dry and the sun is trying to break through.

I can understand why it's known as the Love Chapter.

Good morning everyone, today looks like it's going to be the start of a few very hot days so I'm preparing.  The difficult thing is it looks like a few very hot nights are on the way, but I hope everyone enjoys the sunshine today.

I'm glad the funeral went well EL and that your vicar read your favourite reading so well.

Enjoy your day everyone

From the BBC news site today:

Olivia de Havilland, the veteran Hollywood actress who played Scarlett O'Hara's sister-in-law in Gone with the Wind, receives a damehood just a few weeks before she turns 101.

The double Oscar winner, who was born in Tokyo to British parents on 1 July 1916, becomes the oldest woman to become a dame since the modern-day honours system began.

"I am extremely proud that the Queen has appointed me a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire," said the star of such films as The Heiress, The Snake Pit and The Adventures of Robin Hood.

"To receive this honour as my 101st birthday approaches is the most gratifying of birthday presents."

Good morning everyone

Well, yesterday was hot and today is set be even hotter

It's not set to get any cooler until the end of the week

I nearly melted yesterday

I decided not to go up the park until late yesterday, around 8-45pm. It was lovely. The swans and cygnets where feeding away like mad on the pond weed and some food I took for them. There are still 8 cygnets

Then they retired for the evening on the large island in the large pool

It's quite shaded and cool there despite the loss of one of the large trees during the storm a couple of weeks ago.

Have a super sunday everyone and and stay hydrated

Moonie

Good morning everyone, it's not set to get that hot down here, 22 the high today and then 25 over the next few days.  I have dug out an air cooler for the bedroom which incorporates a fan over a cool water reservoir.  This gets the temperature of the room down quite well and helps enormously.  I will probably set it to run for a few hours overnight - you can run it to shut off after any time up to about 6 hours.

Enjoy your Father's Day everyone

Moonie, sounds as if your swan family are doing well even though it's rather warm

It's was rather warm walking to church and back today.

Squiggle, 28 is the maximun forecast here for today, 29 tomorrow is the peak, still hot until Thursday but back to average by Friday.

It was a confirmation service in church this morning so a bishop was here for that. He's retired but used to be at Hereford and I remembered him when he presided at a confirmation service here a year ago.. During his address he mentioned Father's Day. It's not like Mother's Day which takes place on Mothering Sunday. Mothering Sunday used to be the day when people returned to their mother church (strictly the one they were baptised at). He mentioned that one could have Fathering Sunday.
