I've had another phone call supposedly from British Gas saying there had been a technical fault with my electricity meter and needed my meter number.

As I had a similar call some time ago and got in touch with British Gas they confirmed that this was a scam.

This article is about the scam:
https://0lly.uk/2016/05/24/sca...on-phone-scam-alert/

I think the scam is aimed at businesses (though my supply is residential) but they could try the same thing with residential users.

Note that the caller would be able to tell you what your electricity supply number (in the article MAPN) is. That number is on a register available to energy suppliers. That number starts with S followed by 19 to21 digits and looks like:

That's not the same as your meter number which they won't know but need it to transfer you to another supplier without your consent.

I doubt if they represent a UK based supplier as I wouldn't have thought any would use such fraudulent tactics to get customers.

The gas equivalent of the MAPN is the MPRN (meter reference number) and consists of 6 to 10 digits (mine is 10 - 5 sets of 2 digits).

Sounds like you need that walk to ease the tensions of your day

Good morning everyone.

I've been awake for a while, thanks to the light mornings.

It looks like it will be another sunny day.

Squiggle, I hope your electricity isn't off for too long today.

Have a good day everyone;

Good morning everyone

Cloudy day here,

Velvet, it's good you aren't going to give up

Squiggle, I hope you aren't too long without electricity

I've another course to go to this morning. This one is likely to be of little interest to me. I had paid for a number of course credits which expire by the end of the year. I selected this one just to use up those credits eather than waste them. Because of the pricing structure it was cheaper to buy 16 credits rather than 15 so this couse has cost me a negative amount

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning another sunny. Day here, yippeeee!

We had a lovely walk last night, miss bramble played with 2 other dogs and thoroughly enjoyed herself. I keep walking the dog that belongs to my heart attack friend, I think it helps

moonie, how are things there?

Squiggle I hope all goes smoothly and you are soon back with us.

El, good luck today, I hope it's interesting at least

yogi, how's your garden looking?!

Summer, I'm glad you had a good night and I'm sure your friend appreciates you walking her dog

I cut the front grass yesterday, so it's looking neat and tidy.

The back lawn needs some TLC. There are still a couple of bare patches even though I reseeded them.

The pansies in the hanging baskets are starting to flower, although the rest are yet to bloom.

The vegetables have been slow to grow, so far - hopefully this warm spell will give them a boost.

How's your garden doing?

I'm back from that course, I didn't learn anything but at least I didn't fall asleep.

Summer, I'm glad you had a lovely walk with Bramble last night and it's good that you are helping your friend by walking her dog

Yogi, as you say that's accountant thinking but it's odd that a company which specialises in training accountants has that pricing structure.

It's become sunnier here compared to what it was earlier.

 Well done, El.

I agree about the pricing structure.

For computer programmer geeks:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39803425

A competition is being run by NASA to find people who are able to help in improve some of their software which is written in Fortran though only US citizens can enter the competition.

Fortran is one of the oldest programming languages and dates back to the mid 1950s so years before programming languages you might have heard of such as C and Basic. It's surprising that programs written decades ago are still being used now in places like NASA.

El Loro

When Atari was developing its first computer back in 1979 they hired someone to write their Atari Basic language to go with their computer. He had written Basic for another computer called Altair (nothing to do with Atari) which was for hobbyists who made their own computers. But he got fired by Atari as he wasn't on time and they had to rely on something else.

That wasn't the last one heard of that person. He became rather well known.

Actually he became the most famous person in the world as far as computers are concerned. Bill probably wouldn't want to be reminded of his indifferent start

Well the plastering is finished and the fire back in but it looks like the front room floor is going to need and inspection when we get the carpet up next week. Good job it was going to be replaced after the decorating

Glad Miss Bramble had such a good time

Nice of you to walk your friends dog too

Good morning everyone

Sunny here at present but forecast to cloud over later.

Another story about Atari, this time earlier than their first computer, when they were making their video game console. One of their employees was assigned to work on reducing the number of circuit boards needed for their Breakout game. He got in touch with someone else who helped him by reducing the number of boards by 50. Some time later the employee left Atari and went into business with the man who helped him. That business was Apple.

I hope everyone has a good day

I don't think you've missed anthing major other than Moonie has his fire back working.

They are working on a cross between an electric car and an electric chair so that you can go out and about without getting up from the chair so not like this:

It looks more comfortable than a normal scooter but a little strange.
