Yogi, I agree with you on banks and checkouts
Good morning everyone, a sunny morning but with quite a cold wind. I'm glad your Mum got home safely and has enjoyed her visit Summer.
Enjoy your day everyone

evening all, I hope you're sleeping soundly by now yogi I hope you're enjoying your early night
My mum got home safely thank you but my quiet evening didn't quite go as planned.. I finished work late, and a friend of mine called to ask for a girl chat, so she came by and shared tea with me.
Hopefully tomorrow amd saturday evenings will give me the chance to have an early night
wishing you all very sweet dreams
I'm pleased your mum got home safe and sound. It's a pity about your evening though. On the other hand it's good your friend was confident enough that she could come to you for that chat

Cakes for Moonie (and everyone else)
That's a lovely blessing, El.
Summer, I'm glad you had a nice time with your mum and she had a safe trip home. Enjoy your peace and quiet.
I'm having an early night. Goodnight and sweet dreams everyone.
Hugs for the night owls.
Ohhhh fankoooo so much Yogi. They will do to go with my mid morning cuppa

lots to do!
Good luck with all that Joe. I think you will need it
Good morning everyone
Looking like rain here. I have already been in the garden weeding the 'crazy paving.' What a pain that job is
I did notice where I started weeding at the bottom of the garden has started to weed up again
If we have no rain I will go and attack that shortly
Have a great Friday Buddies
Moonie, sounds like your garden is like the Forth Bridge & painting it. Good luck with your weeding
Good afternoon all a blustery but pleasant day here so far.
I agree about self "service" technology, and sometimes only human interaction will do. I think they should have priority appointments in cases like joe's, these life changing times & big decisions are difficult enough anyway, so they really should make a bigger effort to help people under the circumstances
moonie, you are a busy bee indeed lately!

Thank goodness it isn't that high up El
The weeding is all done now. The rain was only a passing light shower

I know I am Sweet. As a matter of fact gardening is definitely not my favourite hobby but it is good to see it looking so nice. Like someone cares about it
I hope you and Miss Bramble are having a good day
Sunshine has broken out here
Isn't this a lovely piece of music and a very moving clip? From 'Brassed Off' of course with the late great Pete Postlethwaite.
Squiggle, it is a very lovely piece of music and moving as you say
I'm very familiar with the Concierto d'Aranjuez as I heard it many times on Radio 3 when I was living with my parents. It was composed by Joaquin Rodrigo for guitar and orchestra. It's regarded as one of the great pieces of classical music for guitar. More remarkable is that he had been nearly blind since the age of 3 and didn't play the guitar.
Here's the complete piece of music. It really conjures up the feel of Spain.
The Brassed Off part comes from the adagio movement which starts about 7 minutes in.
My now deceased garden sweeping brush
My new garden sweeping brush but with the old stail
Believe it or not the bottom trowel was the same as the top one but after more than 50 odd years of use by my late dad it wore down a little
I can't find it in my heart to throw it away even though the handle is broken and taped up...
Happy memories

Moonie, I have a damaged very old pen knife. It looks like this:
but the shorter blade was broken off many years ago, My grandfather gave it to me in that condition some 50 years ago and it was old then.
I still use it to open my letters.

We are sentimental El
There's going to be problems for some people with their 2016/17 tax returns who file them online. It won't affect many people though. Looks as if it might be where someone has interest income over ÂĢ16k and employment/self-employment/pension income under ÂĢ16k. Also where someone has dividend income of over ÂĢ113k and other income of ÂĢ27k-ÂĢ32k.
So it's unlikely to affect many people. The problem is that if they file the returns online (either HMRC own site or 3rd party s/w) they will land up by paying too much tax. HMRC are in the process of excepting those people from filing online, they'll have to file by paper through the post.
And they really think that make tax digital will work!!!!!!
Quick visit
Moonie, well done on doing your weeding. Your garden must look lovely
Squiggle and El, I enjoyed the music clips.
Nothing wrong with a bit of sentimentality, IMO
The software company I get my accounts and tax s/w notified me of this. Their boss has developed an excel spreadsheet to calculate the correct tax so I bought that today. One of the main accountancy websites had an article in the last few days about this. They had the similar levels of income I posted above other than that with the first problem it was for people whose emp/self-emp/pens income was between ÂĢ11k and ÂĢ16k.
I thought I would play about with the spreadsheet and found that the problem could arise where that income was under ÂĢ11k as well,
I got in touch with the software company who got in touch with the boss. He rang me from his home about this and I showed him what I had found. He's had to agree with me.
He's going to do some work over the weekend and get in touch with the accountancy website about what I've found.
The problem is due to the new 0% bands for interest income and dividend income and the existing 0% band on interest for people whose other income is low.
It's unlikely to affect many people which is something.

How's BB?
BB is great, he such a happy chappy. He's walking around the furniture now and gabbling away. Keira likes that he crawls around the floor and thinks he's her new playmate.

I'm not sure yet.
Middle son usually pops in on Saturdays and sometimes he stays for tea and DiL joins us after work. I'll find out what's happening around lunchtime tomorrow
I'm going to get off and read for a while. Goodnight and sweet dreams.
Hugs for the night owls.

I have an old wine bottle in my kitchen cupboard that my dad used as a rolling pin for pastry, I've had it 20 years and never use it myself but I'll always keep it
Hopefully your garden will be easier to maintain now that you've done a lot of the hard graft. Is there much left?

My patio is block paving, so the moss & patio mound have plenty of "roads" to grow along I'm going to remove another section over the weekend, I've found an old dinner knife to be the most effective tool lol
