Reseachers are carrying out tests on a compound from the venom of Conus regus sea snails. This could become major news in the treatment of chronic pain as it's not based on opioids which are generally used. It also seems to last longer and potentially stop pain from devoloping in the first place,

The wonders of modern science

good morning all it's a very pleasant day here, I wish I could be out walking all day!

~Sparkling Summer~

It's been an interesting day. Normally I send and receive a few texts from my Mum when we have the grandchildren, otherwise I 'phone her. She doesn't always switch her mobile on during the day but by six I was concerned and then someone 'phoned me saying she hadn't turned up to her usual coffee based haunts.

To cut a long story short whilst we drove down a nearby friend used the emergency key and then had to kick down the internal door. They found her on the floor where she had been all day.

She is very confused and they have kept her in hospital. We suspect a urinary infection, she never drinks enough. We feel so guilty as when we were down on Sunday she said a couple of odd things but we never realised anything was wrong.

Joe, you mustn't feel guilty, you keep a very good eye on your mum.

Last year, mum mum was admitted to hospital with a urine infection, which combined with a GP withdrawing one of her meds too quickly, caused terrible confusion. Sometimes, the early symptoms are hard to pick up on - my dad hadn't realised mum was ill, it was only when I arrived that I noticed how confused mum was and she was able to tell me that she was frightened because she was aware she was confused. She was in hospital for a week but made a full recovery, so try not to worry (easy to say, I know) and hopefully once your mum has some antibiotics, she'll make a rapid recovery.

Good morning everyone

GJ, I hope your mum makes a rapid recovery, you shouldn't feel guilty

Yogi and Summer, thanks, the funeral went well

Yogi, as you say, Storm Doris is heading towards us for tomorrow. Gusts of 50 mph forecast for my area but worse further north. Batten down the hatches.

I hope everyone has a good day

I hope your mum recovers quickly GJ, I remember what a very worrying time that was for you and your family when your mum was ill last year Yogi.

Enjoy your day everyone

 She's doing well ATM, Squiggle.

Hopefully Joe's mum will also make a good recovery.

Yogi, I'm glad your mum is OK I too hope Summer isn't bungee jumping.

I remember reciting the times tables as well when I was young. As mental arithmetic was my strongest subject at school it was easy for me. I also remember learning how to tell the time at school. In the morning lesson I got a bit puzzled by to and past. I told my mother at lunchtime and she explained the differences to me (at school we were expected to learn by recital rather than it being explained). So by the afternoon when I went back to school, it made sense.

Bungee jumping not likely

i went to the theatre to see the wedding singer, it was jolly good fun but not as good as the production of it that I saw several years ago.

I hope youve each had a good day

I'm glad you enjoyed it - much safer than bungee jumping

And I didn't fall down the steps either

how was your day yogi?
