Hi Ros/Wilma, how are you doing?

I see you're staying with your MM id. Was it driving you swapping ids, all the time?

sorry just seen this - yes it was

Rocking Ros Rose

Good morning everyone. There's a lot of low cloud this morning, but perhaps it will brighten up later.

No worries Ros, I could see you were busy in the MM thread.

Summer, remember you promised to leave your phone at home - no sneaking it on holiday so you can catch the bus.

I bet your brother was relieved to finally receive his cheque, El.

Yogi19

Good morning everyone, welcome to Wilma (aka Ros) the more the merrier in here.

I see I am expecting lots of visitors we might have to top and tail in the beds (we used to do that when we were kids) but I am sure we will be fine and after we have scoffed the Ayrshire bacon, square sausages??? and haggis neeps and tatties then I will lay on a splendid Devon Cream Tea.  I might live down in Devon now but Joyron I still buy Tiptree jam from Essex (where I used to live) probably (as Carlsberg did not say) the finest jam in the world.

Anyway its another lovely day, hasn't this been a lovely Spring?  And guess what I am expecting to arrive tomorrow?  Goldfish by courier   I went out to buy goldfish yesterday only to find the shop had now closed.  My previous supplier had changed hands and when I bought fish from the new owner some of them died and I don't trust them any more so I was looking online for a new local supplier and found this firm in Kent which breeds them themselves (most shops buy from ones raised abroad) and ships them overnight.  The cost is very competitive so they are arriving tomorrow.  The quality is supposed to be excellent and they are guaranteed so I will see how I get on.

This is square sausage, Squiggle - also know as Lorne sausage. Yummy on a roll.

The sausage in the pic is raw, it's best grilled or fried.

Goldfish by courier, that's a new one on me. Are you stocking up your pond?

Aww, that's not so good, Summer. I hope she gets better soon.

I love elderflower cordial, so I'll happily take some elderflower bubbly off your hands.

Haven't even started the weeding yet. Weather forecast is for sunny weather for the next few days, so plenty of time to get the weeds out.

Been pottering around in the greenhouse and doing a bit of housework.

Yogi19

Good afternoon everyone.    It sounds as though you are all having a wonderful day.  It's sunny and quite hot here again today and the forecast for the whole Easter weekend is promising too.

Hope the goldfish arrive safely tomorrow Squiggle.  I'm sure they will give you many hours of pleasure watching them over the summer.  I'm only about 5 minutes away from the Tiptree Jam Factory and we eat loads of Wilkins jams.  One of the things my penfriend has requested to do when she visits in September is to go back to the Tea Rooms for another afternoon tea with the special "Little Scarlet" strawberry jam.  At least that's an easy wish to fullfil

It is lovely to see some new faces in our little thread.  I hope to make everyone's acquaintence in due course.

This afternoon my lovely hubby has actually left me on my own for a couple of hours while he attends an important meeting which was arranged long before I went into hospital.  I must be making really good progress in his eyes as I'm sure he would not have considered it safe leaving me a few days ago.  I'm still taking the painkillers but am feeling a little better as each day passes.  The walking is a little easier and, at last, I feel I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless you all for thinking about me and caring about how I am getting on.  It really helps to know I have such wonderful friends in this thread who will see me through thick and thin.  Thank you for the wonderful flowers Yogi.  They will look great on display with the other flowers and cards I have received since I got home.  It doesn't seem possible that it will be one week tomorrow since the operation took place.  Time really does pass quickly.

Joyron

Great news Joyron, glad to see you on the mend again .

I am still a little amazed myself Summer, at first I read their web page and thought Nah silly idea.  But there is no-one near here who I feel I can rely on for healthy fish and the nearest one would be about a 50 mile round trip.  Well what with the cost of petrol nowadays and especially knowing that these fish are home-grown so to speak it seems to make sense.  I mean when I go to buy fish they put them in bags with oxygen and I bring them home in my car, its not all that much different to the way they will supply them and I know they are not coming from abroad.

This is what they say about it

86% of the Fish that you find in a retail shop have been imported. This means that they are often subjected to diseases that are not present on UK fish farms and are farmed in intensive situations that we would not consider at Bourne Valley. They are then boxed up for an overnight air journey to the UK. The density of the fish in the boxes is often 5 times the density that we would put fish into our boxes.

Most of these imported fish are collected from the Airport and transported to wholesalers where they are unloaded into crowded tanks awaiting delivery to the Pet shop. Generally it is only a few days before these fish are then re-boxed and delivered to the retailer. They then sit in a retailers tank avoiding the fast moving nets every day until a customer selects them and takes them home. This may be weeks.

In comparison.

Our fish are boxed here in carbon filtered water and sent at low densities overnight, straight to you.

squiggle, did you spot the little warning that your goldfish supplier has?

We always advise that all new fish purchased from anywhere are kept separately from existing stocks until you are completely happy with their health and well being.

With the quantity of cats in my area, it would not be sensible for me to have a pond with fish in.

El Loro

I don't know if any of you spotted this news item on the BBC:

Christians mark Jesus Christ's Last Supper on Maundy Thursday, but new research suggests it took place on the Wednesday before his crucifixion.

Colin Humphreys of Cambridge University says discrepancies in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke as compared with John arose because they used an older calendar than the official Jewish one.

He concluded the date was 1 April AD33.

This could also mean Jesus' arrest, interrogation and separate trials did not all take place on one night only.

Prof Humphreys believes his findings could present a case for finally fixing Easter Day to the first Sunday in April.

In his new book, The Mystery Of The Last Supper, the metallurgist and materials scientist uses Biblical, historical and astronomical research to address the fundamental inconsistency about the event.

While Matthew, Mark and Luke say the Last Supper coincided with the start of the Jewish festival of Passover, John claims it took place before Passover.

"This has puzzled Biblical scholars for centuries. In fact, someone said it was 'the thorniest subject in the New Testament'," he told the BBC's Today programme.

"If you look at all the events the Gospels record - between the Last Supper and the Crucifixion - there is a large number. It is impossible to fit them in between a Thursday evening and Friday morning."

"But I found that two different calendars were involved. In fact, the four gospels agree perfectly," he added.

Prof Humphreys argues that Jewish people would never have mistaken the Passover meal for another meal because it is so important.

He suggests that Matthew, Mark and Luke used an old-fashioned Jewish calendar - adapted from Egyptian usage at the time of Moses - rather than the official lunar calendar which was in widespread use at the time.

"In John's Gospel, he is correct in saying the Last Supper was before the Passover meal. But Jesus chose to hold his Last Supper as a Passover meal according to an earlier Jewish calendar," Prof Humphreys said.

The Last Supper was therefore on Wednesday, 1 April AD33, according to the standard Julian calendar used by historians, he concluded.

Thank you for the elderflower Summer.  It certainly was refreshing.  Any chance you might be able to send us a picture of your new goldfish when they arrive Squiggle?

Some time tomorrow, of course as luck would have it I am going out in the afternoon but I have told them that it is quite safe to just leave around the back of the house.  I live near the top of a very quiet lane and you very rarely see anyone coming up here (only tourists sometimes in the Summer if they think the lane leads somewhere, which it don't).  I will then float the bag in the pond to make sure the temperature is the same and then cut the bag and let them swim out.  Won't my present fish be in for a shock?

That is the reason I am so careful about my supplier EL.  In an ideal world I would have some sort of quarantine system but I don't so as long as the fish have been carefully raised by a fish expert there is usually no trouble.

El Loro I have copied and pasted a portion of your long post.  John 13:1 states that at the Last Supper it was just before the Passover.

It seems to me the latest trend to try to cast doubt on many aspects of Christianity what the 'doubting Thomases' seem to forget with their nit picking that it is all irrelevant.  What we celebrate this Easter Sunday is that Christ is risen indeed!

Squiggle, how many goldfish are you getting? Pics would be good.

I've ordered 20 and they are described as bright red, although I am aware that some could still have black patches.  I don't know whether you know but all goldfish are born black.  We do get babies in our pond and the first time I saw one I was amazed at where the tiny black fish had come from   The males are very energetic and won't leave the females alone if they (the males of course ) are in the mood.  Higher numbers will help to even things out.  I will try to do pictures

Being in a flippant mood, I thought I would quote from these 2 postings - I know they are extracted from unrelated topics

I didn't know goldfish were black when they were born - this forum is very educational.

I look forward to the pics.

Agreed. At our recent Lent course, the vicar commented on Easter Sunday being on different Sundays each year. He said that although there are some people who are trying to get our government to set a fixed Sunday each year (and Prof Humphreys could well be one of them), the likeyhood of this happening is remote as all the main denominations would need to agree. And every country would need to agree which is remote. In reality, the date of Easter Sunday is unimportant.
