GJ, I hope the poor weather doesn't spoil things for you
Good morning everyone, a simply beautiful morning. The valley looks like a painting this morning with the autumn colours just beginning to change, the sea is a silvery blue with a ship on the horizon over by the Welsh coast.
Enjoy your day everyone
Good afternoon Buddies
So far it's been sunny, cloudy and now sunny again. Quite cool when out of the sun but at least no rain forecast for today
Sweet, I hope your weekend with your friend is going well
El, I have seen that Poirot with Albert Finney in. Probably the worst portrayal of Poirot I have ever seen
Joe, I hope the bad weather stays away for you
squiggle, your start to the day sounds idyllic
Yogi, I hope you have pleasant Sunday
Velvet, if you pop in, I hope your weekend is going well
A happy Sunday everyone
Afternoon all.
Squiggle, that sounds very pretty.
We woke to cold, misty weather but the sun is now shining.
Mr Y has been cutting the grass (and hoping it might be the last cut of the year) while I've been giving our bedroom a good clear out.
El, I only like David Suchet as Poirot so I'll give the Branagh film a miss.
Joe, I hope you enjoy your day, despite the weather.
Moonie, I hope you are having a relaxing Sunday, Summer is having a fab time with her friend and Velvet and the boss are chilling.
Moonie, apparently the first actor to portray Poirot was Charles Laughton:
It was in stage in 1928 in a play called Alibi which was adapted from The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.
Agatha Christie wasn't impressed and was reluctant for any of her books to be made into films for many years, Oddly enough the one film adaptation which satisfied her was The Murder on the Orient Express and, apart from the moustache, she thought Albert Finney's performance came closest to how she saw Poirot.
For anyone interested, a very short story by Alexander McCall Smith featuring the two main characters from his No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency,
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-37504838
It's not a detective story but was written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Botswana's independence.
Yogi, I can't really imagine Branagh as Poirot and he's going to find it hard to convince people to go and see the film.
Sad news on the announcement of the death of Sir Neville Marriner at the age of 92.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37535272
One of Britain's major conductors of classical music since 1959. My father listened to Radio 3 a lot over the years and Neville Marriner is a name I recognised immediately as a result.
Although did very little work in films he did conduct the music for a couple of Milos Forman's films - Amadeus and Valmont (which starred Colin Firth but was based on the same novel as Dangerous Liasions, was being made at much the same time so had to be held back for a couple of years to have any chance at the box office).

Ah well, if anyone should know she should El

Hi Yogi
Well done to you and Mr Y on you endeavours
I have dried a line of washing, despite the mostly bland weather
Also, hoovered the house from top to bottom and mopped the kitchen and bathrooms floors to within an inch of their lives
Moonie, so that's your idea of a relaxing Sunday Well done on all your work

Nope, Agatha is wrong - David Suchet is Poirot!

Watching the pitch and putt and it ain't going well - as expected.
Evening Velvet
Glad you've had a good weekend. Mine has been fine too.
I'm in the Celebrity Island thread - this bunch of celebs are useless!

Goodnight and sweet dreams, Velvet.
Hugs for the night owls

i hope you had a good weekend are all sound asleep and dreaming sweetly by now
i've had a lovely weekend with my best friend, it's gone too quickly and we've done a lot of chatting & laughing
El, thanks for the Spicy Prawn Pancakes recipe you & moonie know me so well
goodnight everyone
As luck would have it we were cycling past a friend's Klein Garten just before the heavens opened and thus avoided getting soaked yesterday afternoon. It has rained all night and is still raining. Hopefully it will stop so I can get some distance today.
Have a great dry sunny day everyone!!
Good morning everyone
Blue sky with wispy clouds here, on the cool side.
Yogi, I think many would agree with you about David Suchet
Velvet, as you say, the expected result in the Ryder Cup
Summer, I'm glad you had a good weekend with your friend
GJ, I hope you get better weather so you can go where you want to
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone, another lovely morning, similar to yours I would guess EL, a few wispy clouds.
I am glad your weekend went so well Summer, sounds like a lovely time was had by all.
I agree about David Suchet, exactly the picture that comes into my mind when I picture Poirot. How odd that Agatha Christie should have thought that Albert Finney was the best, he was completely wrong in my view! What do I know?
Enjoy your day everyone
Extraordinary BBC magazine article about a family and a magpie,
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-37519032
It's worth playing the BBC clip which is about 2/3rd through the article and the promtional video for the book - link just before the end of the article.
Re Agatha Christie and Poirot. She died in 1976 and David Suchet didn't start appearing as Poirot until 1989 so she wouldn't have had the chance to see him.
That's a thought EL
A video from the Symbio Wildlife Park in Australia of Willow, a very young koala, and her new friend.
Good afternoon a chilly 5 degree morning here but now a glorious sunny day! I hope you're all enjoying yourselves today
Summer, it's like that here as well but I can beat you with the temperature - at 8 this morning when I was putting out the garden waste bin and reclycling boxes it was 3.6 degrees.
Afternoon all.
We have been lifting our bedroom carpet as we are getting a new one tomorrow. Note to self, don't ever buy another cream carpet. TBF, it did last 8 years.
Mr Y managed to pull out a load of cables from the tv, dvd player and the router, and for a while we had no internet. Somehow, I have managed to get all the cables back in the right places and now have wifi.
Summer, I'm pleased you had such a good weekend with your friend.
Joe, I hope the weather brightens up for you.
El and Squiggle, I am certain that Agatha would have preferred David Suchet's Poirot, had she seen it.
Have a good day everyone.

That was so cute.
Thanks Yogi! After the promise of Donner und Blitzen* it has been sunny and I managed over seventy kilometres.
*other reindeer are available.
Yogi, well done on your technical abilities May be you could sort out my largest client's accounting software glitches for them They've just emailed me to say they are having problems with those. I'm waiting for them to sort things out so that I can make a start.
That koala/butterfly video is very cute. Incidentally all marsupial infants are called joeys whether they are kangaroos, koalas, wombats & other types.
GJ, I'm glad our decent weather has spread to your area as well

Sounds like we all had a good weekend so that's good. Yogi, the story I could tell you about a new cream lounge carpet and an incontinent elderly Irish Setter who snuck in would make your eyes water. (Insurance covered it thankfully!) Hope all is well
Squiggs, El, Moons and Sweet - hope you have a great evening
Love that Velvet
Fankoo, I hope your evening is good too
