JK Rowling has said she is "thrilled" that War & Peace actor Tom Burke (he was the womaniser Fedya Dolokhov) will star in a TV series based on the crime novels she wrote as Robert Galbraith.

Burke, who also appeared in The Musketeers (Athos), will play private detective Cormoran Strike in the BBC One adaptation. He described the character as "complex" and "larger than life".

Shooting on the seven hour-long dramas will begin in London in the autumn.

*night owls*

haha Velvet! I can promise you, there will be no boys. I'm more in danger of permanently being a blissfully happy spinster

Funny- I just had that conversation on FB tonight about the differences between Thai curries. I should know this because I've read it on a menu before, twice.

I enjoyed bake off tonight, I wanted the other lady to get star baker but I like them both anyway

I'm getting up very early tomorrow so...

Thank you all have a lovely week each and I'll see you when I get back

For those interested in disasters and history, there's quite an interesting article about the 1665/6 Great Plague of London on the BBC site today:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/scie...environment-37287715

There's a link in that article to Daniel Defoe's A Journal of the Plague Year. Defoe is best known for Robinson Crusoe and Moll Flanders but this book is regarded as a major account of the plague. It's what you might describe as a docudrama told in the first person. Defoe was born in London in about 1660 so was a young child at the time of the plague.

A few months after the plague died down in London was the Great Fire (500th anniversary a few days ago). Although a disaster, the rebuilding of London was done in such a way to reduce the risk of the plague striking again by improved hygiene and street layout.

I watched the last few minutes of Debatable (BBC2 quiz programme) a few minutes ago. Question was which 3 of these won the Best Picture Oscar - Jaws, Gravity, The King's Speech, Braveheart, Rocky, and Moulin Rouge.

Actually 4 of them did. Although the Moulin Rouge film with Nicole Kidman didn't win, the 1952 film Moulin Rouge (directed by John Huston and a biopic of Toulouse-Lautrec) did win the Best Picture Oscar.

A bad mistake and I've notified the BBC about it (and I suspect others have),

Evening all

Yay, I'm pleased the sun is shining on you, have a lovely time, Summer.

Thanks everyone, I had a really good catch up with my friend.

Way to go, Monica! She certainly doesn't look her age.

I don't understand why FB would delete that photograph.

Hubby and I are going away for a short break but I hope to pop in now and then, if the hotel wifi is up to par.

Be good till I get back and take care.

Good morning everyone, dry here and the forecast is to remain dry, but very cloudy though so I don't think there's going to be any sunshine.

I am glad you are having a great time Summer, swimming in the sea and the pool, sheer bliss.  Have a great break Yogi, a change of scene and some spoiling in the hotel I hope.

I hope you managed to get some nice cake in M & S EL.

Enjoy your day everyone
