Summer, I totally agree with you about stolen dogs , My day is busy but not as hectic as yesterday. I do have another client meeting in the early evening but it should be straightforward.
HMRC seem to be quite early about sending out the tax bills as the tax isn't due until the end of next month. I discovered something about the class 2 NI. As you may know that's now built into the tax bill. We had thought that the class 2 NI would get built into the January and July payments on account but HMRC changed that recently. It's now payable by the 31 January after the end of the tax year though still paid along with the tax.
My accounting software has corrected that but it has meant that I've had to contact clients where I had already sent in the tax returns with a revised tax payment schedule. The overall amount of tax remains the same. HMRC has amended its site for this. The most immediate effect is for anyone who had already filed a tax return and their tax for 2015/16 is less than for 2014/15 so that the July 2016 liability is lower than the default amount. The tax due to be paid in July now excludes the class 2 NI and that is payable in January (ÂĢ145-60). So for anyone in that position, if they get the bill from HMRC and it's ÂĢ145-60 less than expected, that's why. (it will be a bit more than ÂĢ145.60 because of getting an interest supplement).
To anyone who doesn't do self employment tax returns, the above won't mean much, but to those who do, it will
