Good morning sorry I didn't get back here last night, I felt a little under par again so went to bed for a lay down and didn't wake until a short while ago

reading back on yesterday's posts has been great fun, you've all been busy bees!

I especially loved the Audrey Hepburn story & film clip

moonie, that was a downpour alright!! You did well to capture it on video too, that's too an easy thing, I've tried & failed many times

so so have the Cowboys gone now or are they staying all week??

yogi, I hope you have a wonderful PB day I'm already looking forward to hearing about it

~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone

Another cloudy day here with the potential for downpours.

Summer, I hope you are feeling better now

Yogi, as you say, the forum was playing up much of yesterday evening It was also affecting the Social Strata help website as well. I think it may have been sorted out by late evening though there's no mention on the Social Strata site of any problem. Lori didn't get on this forum yesterday but I don't know if that was because she was unable to or not.

I hope you have a good day with PB and that everyone has a nice day

I watched The Railway Children last evening - the famous version. Very good and heartwarming and the best British family film ever made. Oddly enough, it's quite possible that I had never seen it before. I would have seen the BBC serial which was made two years earlier and that also had Jenny Agutter as Bobbie/Roberta. I had read the book when I was young so the story was very familiar.

One question about it. Right at the beginning of the film the adult Roberta is seen for a second reminiscing about the past. Was she played by Jenny Agutter or someone else? There's nothing in the credits about that. A year later she was in Walkabout, a very different film, and right at the end of that film we do see her as an adult reminiscing about the past.

El Loro

Good morning everyone, the forum took a long time to load this morning, I was wondering if one of the hamsters had died.  Now you've got me wondering EL, I am sure I have seen The Railway Children and I know I definitely watched the BBC series.  Was Bernard Cribbins in both?  I can't remember Roberta reminiscing at the start of the film at all.

Mighty rain you've been having Moonie, as Summer says well done on capturing that clip of it.  I don't know whether the cowboys are there all week although obviously the Victorian theme lasts all week Summer. Have a great day with PB Yogi.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

Squiggle, that's ominius about the forum taking a long time to load this morning as I had hoped that yesterday evening's problems had been sorted. I haven't yet had a problem so far today.

Bernard Cribbins was only in the film version, it was Gordon Gostelow in the TV serial made two years earlier. Just to make it more confusing, there was an earlier BBC serial made in 1957 and an even earlier one in 1951. I may have seen the 1957 serial but I was very young then,

The scene with the adult Roberta is so short that it's over before you know it so it's not surprising that you can't remember it.

Moonie, that retirement home is close to the centre of Cheltenham, about a 10 minute walk from the Promenade, is on a busy main road and a good couple of miles away from any countryside. The closest open ground are the playing fields of Dean Close School.

I don't want to put anyone from trying New Blood as what I posted was my own view. I would have expected something better from the creator of Foyle's War.

It's a wonder it didn't get injured on its way there then El

Is it still there or has it got back to open land safely?

Several people have said New Blood isn't up to much so will give it a miss anyway

Foyle's War was great until after the "War" ended then it declined for me

Moonie, the man at the home who took the photo of the deer said that it had been there for over a week. I don't know if it's still there - the photo appeared in the local news today.

I knew that New Blood wasn't going to be similar to Foyle's War but I had hoped it it would be closer to Horowitz's Crime Traveller. That was back in 1997 and was a mix of crime solving and the use of a time machine. There was only the one series but it was very enjoyable (Michael French, Chloe Annett and Sue Johnson).

There's a lot of surface water on the roads in Gloucester and my local infant's school has had to be closed because one of the flat roofs couldn't cope with the heavy rain with water coming through. I reckon about 10 mm fell in the space of half an hour before 1pm on top of the 10 mm which had already fallen here since midnight. Not a huge amount but when it falls in a short time, that causes problems.

I doubt if many of us realised that since 1991 coffee had been considered as possibly causing cancer. News just now is that the risk has been downgraded as there's insufficient evdence to show that there is a risk.

In case you wonder why bother mentioning this, the article does say that drinking very hot drinks probably does cause cancer. So tea as well as coffee. They say the risk is where the drink is consumed at a temperature over 65C. So just let the drink cool down for a few minutes particularly where cold milk hasn't been added.

The residents must have been/are enthrall by their visitor but it must have been/is  a little frightened. I think someone should have/should call one of the animal rescue organisations

Still would have been a mouthful though El

Moonie

Moonie, I think it probable that one of the animal rescue organisations will have already contacted the home. Hartpury College is about 20 miles away and would have the facility to look after the deer on a short term basis and there's a deer sanctuary in Somerset for a longer term facility if needed.  The deer looks quite young to me.

Ah, that sounds good El

I was thinking that too

Evening all.

Squiggle, I hope the forum has stopped playing up for you. It was a nightmare last night.

We had a lovely day with PB, but we are both shattered - in fact, Mr Yogi is already in bed! We got to spend some time with BB too. He is such a happy chappy.

El, I was certain I had set up my Tivo box to record New Blood, but it hasn't recorded it. I trust your judgement and won't bother looking for it on catch up.

Moonie, I loved Foyle's War but agree that it went off the boil in the last two series.

I hope that beautiful deer is captured and taken to somewhere safe.

Summer have you enjoyed your day off? I hope you haven't been poorly.

Hi Yogi

Awwww, pleased you a great time with PB and the happy little chappy BB too

I know Foyle's War, the war part couldn't go on forever but it lost it's fascination for me "after the war" was over

Have a super evening

Hi Moonie

That's exactly how I felt about Foyle's War.

Are you watching footie, or is that a daft question?

We are happy bunnies then

My day has been good fankoo

As for the weather, we have had about three rain free hours in the last three days. It's raining now and more heavy and thundery outbreaks tomorrow too but at least it's cooler now
