The Gustav Holst Planets suite contains the Jupiter section which is called "Jupiter, the bringer of Jollity".

At 2 minutes 54 seconds the music changes to what was later used by Holst to be the music to "I vow to thee my country" which is serious a hymn as any written and not really full of jollity. I was reminded just now by a circular from Blind Veterans UK which has the music score on its envelope.

I've been getting those Windows Technical Support scam phone calls over the last few days. They seem to use different phone numbers which makes blocking them harder.

Today's caller gave me what he called a serial number to prove that it really was a report about my computer. 00C04FD7D062,  I terminated the call then as I know this number, On Windows 7 (& earlier) go to Command Prompt from the accessories folder to get a black DOS box, type ASSOC. Almost at the end is a line which looks as if it's a serial number and ends with the number I put above. It's the same number on all Windows computers and is a known way of tricking people.

was made to listen  to this in junior school  beginning with Mars - loved it and I vow to thee my country was my Grammar  school's hymn

Good morning everyone

A wet night here, but the rain is forecast to end over the next couple of hours.

Ros, The Planets was and is one of the more popular pieces of classical music. Gustav Holst was born in Cheltenham and his birthplace is now a museum dedicated to him. It also provides teaching to children in the area about him.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone, lots of blue sky but a very cold wind.  EL I hope your weekend is going well.

One of the young female pheasants came past yesterday Yogi but none of the others.  Whether this means they have settled on a nesting site or decided to look elsewhere only time will tell.  I heard the male calling a lot yesterday morning but that happens every year at this time and I suppose it is his mating call.

I hope all is going really well Summer.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

My brother said that he saw snow falling here this morning but it wasn't settling. There was no sign of it when we went shopping. One of the roads going had a lot of surface water so I came back a different way as it looked even wetter on the other side of the road. That particular road does tend to get closed due to flooding, it's not in a built up area so very few houses along it.

El Loro

congrats to them El! You must be thrilled I hope you & your brother are having a lovely weekend

squiggle, it is thank you I LOVE my new home I have ordered a shed for the garden, and need to buy some storage/furniture for inside the house, and a few other bits & bobs. I'm looking forward to a lazy lay in tomorrow morning!

Ive got a friend coming to have tea & a glass of wine with me, so sweet dreams in advance in case I don't get back here later

Yogi, moonoe & velvet...

Evening all.

Squiggle, I'm so pleased you are still having visits from the pheasant(s).

Eldest son popped in for a visit this morning, while PB was having her first ballet class. By all acounts, she loved it.

Middle son and DiL came for tea.

Summer, I'm glad you are settling in well and getting organised.

Enjoy your evening with your friend - and the wine! - and your relaxing day tomorrow.

Just the usual mundane dribble Yogi

A wee shop and a walk. Then a nap. My sleep patterns all out of kilter watching the US election.

Hope all is well with you

How are things going in the US, is Trump still popular?

I think he is. Tbh both Republicans don't go down well with the establishment. If it's not Bernie I'd take Trump over Hillary. Controversial I know..

If I were an American, I'd be asking if we could scrub this lot and start again.

I agree Yogi. There are gaping holes in all of them - apart from the straight shooting Sanders

How is the boss keeping?

A bit iffy on her pins Yogi. Hips and arthritis. Good spirit though and knitting her Chrimbo wool as we speak         There's still a large box left after this. Likes to stay occupied unlike myself

Arthritis is debilitating, but it's great that she tries to keep busy.

I bet she is a brilliant knitter.

The oldies are the best Yogi. The poems and anecdotes she can recite are just priceless. Scottish folklore half of them. Yes, I'm in love

 Without doubt.

I'm going to get off for a read before bed. Goodnight and sweet dreams Velvet (when you finally nod off)

Good morning everyone

Sunny here this morning

Yes, I'm pleased that Cheltenham have been promoted so go back to League Two next season. If they were to win their last two games of this season they would get to over 100 points for the season.

I see that PB is well named - Prima Ballerina

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone.

It started off sunny and cold but now it's raining. I'm hoping it's a passing shower so Keira and I can go out for a walk later.

Aww Summer, was it a newborn baby? I love babies!

Yay to getting your broadband back tomorrow.

Is your brother going home today or tomorrow, El? I hope you've had a nice weekend and enjoyed those Thornton cakes.

It's been a beautiful morning and we took our little boy to church for the first time, me and my eldest grandson.  The baby's eyes were like saucers taking it all in, he loved it when everyone sang, and even tried to join in.

Well done on getting so much washing done Summer, I hope your evening went well.

Was the baby asleep or did you get a smile, Summer?

Check out Drama channel at 7pm for 2012 episode of Call The Midwife.

Well done on getting so much washing done. I've done three loads today.

Squiggle, I know how much that would mean to you.

Keira and I managed to get a walk between showers, but the wind was icy. I won't be shocked if we get snow later on.

I've just taken my brother back to the railway station after a pleasant weekend. In a couple of days he's off on a short holiday with a friend to Oporto. They'll be looking in museums, churches etc rather than going on a tour of vineyards as neither of them drink of the local produce. They'll go to the football stadium as his friend likes visiting those of the well known clubs even if there's no match on.

Not sure when my brother's next visit will be as there's a lot of engineering work going on the railways making journeys longer than normal. It's to do with the ongoing Crossrail project.

The Thornton cakes are good

Summer, I'm glad your broadband is coming back tomorrow

Yogi, I hope the weather has improved for me. It's quite pleasant here today.

Squiggle, that's a lovely memory for you with your little boy's first visit to church

It was a confirmation service at church today. It was a good service. Although only one person being confirmed this time, she's adult and the daughter of the churchwarden who died last year. She had started coming to church with her mother after her father's death and was drawn towards the church by the support she was getting from us so she decided to become confirmed.

It was also a historic moment for our church as it was the first confirmation at our church held by Bishop Rachel. She's clearly going to be a very good bishop and good for the Gloucester diocese.

A hymn at the service which is not one I've heard before. It was translated by Stuart Hine from a Russian hymn and he also wrote the music from a Swedish melody.

*night owls*

my plans for a lazy Sunday didn't quite go as planned- story of my life lately however, I have been very productive indeed! I've dismantled my bed and assembled the new frame, I've got a 3/4 sized mattress on a King frame right now but I'll soon get it sorted it.

I also weeded the garden and removed a couple of dead/half dead plants, it was very satisfying

it it sounds like you've all been busy too! Well done everyone

yogi, the baby was awake and alert, she was quiet and content which is probably why I liked her

wishing you you all sweet dreams, and moonie I hope you soon feel well enough to come back

~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone.

I woke to the sun shining through the blinds. Unfortunately, it has also been raining , so any idea of gardening is now on the back burner.

Summer, well done on getting so much done yesterday.

lol at your "day of beds" comment, El.

Ros, you are giving me some great ideas of places to visit.

To date, my favourite catherdral is in Prague. It is beautiful and has such a serene atmosphere - even with tourists milling around.

Have a good day everyone.
