How exciting, I have all 4 pheasants in the garden together and it looks as if they are planning a nesting site here.  Do you remember my hen party last year when there was the mum and two daughters?  Well they are back, the girls have been here just about every day for the last week or so and today the dad and mum also came by all together.  What with my pheasants and Moonie's swans we have a bird nesting theme going on at the moment

You'll need to keep us updated on Pheasant Watch.

Thank you Squiggle, El and Moonie for PB's birthday wishes.

When she arrived, she was dressed in a Disney princess costume, complete with crown. She had a lovely birthday.

El, sounds like a very busy day for you tomorrow.

*night owls*

I've just read back and am all caught up.

Never mind the rain moonie, I love the shape of your garden! I hope you stayed dry today, and warm.

Aw did PB have a lovely birthday? And did she like her slide? I would bet good money on it becoming a summertime water slide at some point

squiggle l hope the lightening didn't cause any trouble

El, good luck for tomorrow. I hope it's interesting and helpful

goodnight Ros

sweet dreams everyone

Good morning everyone

Fair weather here though showers forecast for later.

Yogi, I'm glad PB had a great birthday

Squiggle, there was a brief noisy outbreak of hail over my house during the evening making a racket on the roof.

Although the courses today will be full of information I expect them to be helpful.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone.

Very heavy rain last night and overcast this morning.

El, I hope the courses are interesting and the day flies past.

Summer, the slide has an attachment so you can turn it into a water slide.

Squiggle, be sure to let us know if the pheasants are still around. I think they are beautiful birds.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning at last I'm starting to get back to some resemblance of normality! I still have bits & bobs to do, but the bulk of it is done. The endless, tedious phone calls are worse than physically moving house

yogi, why didn't I see that coming? it sounds superb, roll on the good weather so she can play outside lots

squiggle, I forgot to mention the pheasants last night sorry. They sound wonderful, they're such beautiful creatures to watch

~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone, aww I am so pleased our little princess had a wonderful birthday.

Sorry for sending the hail your way EL, did you get any lightning with it?  The storm seemed to come out of nowhere and there was more lightning than thunder.

I feel very privileged to sit here (very quietly in case I frighten them) and watch those wonderful shy birds go past.  Let's hope all the phone calls will soon be over and you can settle down and enjoy planning your future Summer.

Enjoy your day everyone

Back from those courses. The tax one this morning was good even though there was a lot. Not surprisingly mention was made of the quarterly accounting filing to come in from April 2018.
David Gauke, financial secretary to the Treasury is the man behind the proposals.

He is the one pushing it. Many accountants and small businesses think it's unworkable. Apparently even HMRC aren't keen on it,

I had done a little bit of research before the course and passed on some information to the lecturer before the course which he found rather interesting. At the break I mentioned to him that I had heard yesterday that there had been a change in the stamp duty proposals relating to granny flats. He wasn't aware of the change and will look into it. After the break we had the session on the quarterly accounts reporting. There wasn't really time for questions but I did get one in. That was what would happen when the tax return for the year to 5 April 2018 (due date of filing by 31 January 2019) is being filed after the first quarter of 2018/19 would have to be filed by some time in July or August 2018, No one knows (other than in David Gauke's mind). I got thanked by the lecturer for my input.

The accountancy course in the afternoon was very confusing and left us somewhat bewildered.

Aw just missed you Ros, sweet dreams

yogi, I hope you enjoyed your early night

El, my biggest concern regarding quarterly tax returns is the cost- will the current annual fee be the same for each quarter? or will the fee be cheaper because there's less paperwork to go through..? If it's the same as the current annual fee, that would work out very expensive indeed

Good morning everyone

Fairly cloudy here, possible showers today.

Summer, I think it's probable that accountants fees will be higher due to the increased frequency of filing though it won't necessarily follow that it will be 4 times the current cost. It's quarterly profit and loss accounts which will have to be filed rather than tax returns. My guess is that many accountants will require their clients to start using cloud accounting packages (such as Xero and Freeagent) so that the clients do much of the basic posting of entries and the accountant does whatever is needed to get that data into order. The cost will depend om how competent the client is at posting their account data. Packages such as Xero and Freeagent automaticallly download get the bank receipts and payments from the bank. Xero and Freeagent aren't free so that there's that cost as well. Some people will do their own filing with HMRC using free apps which are due to be developed. That may be free but they will be spending more time on processing data than at present so less free time ot ime available to earn money, so there's a cost there.

Anyone who can't afford the accountants fees and software cost and aren't competent enough to do it themselves will have to give up. The government will claim that there is support for those people to be able to do it but the level of support actually available is almost certainly totally and hopelessly inadaquate, I think 1 or 2 % of what is actually needed.

Crikey, well I'll try not to get anxious about it and hope that we can cover the costs. I am wary of filing it myself online in case I make a mistake, at least having the accountant do it for me bring peace of mind. Hopefully my customers will understand if & when we need to bring in a price increase.

Good afternoon btw it's another drizzle day here, the 4th in a row

i hope you're all keeping warm and cosy

Good morning everyone

Very cloudy and rainy here. It's forecast to get colder today and the forecaster mentioned the possibilty of snow coming down from the north even as far south as on the Cotswold hills. I'm not expecting any here.

My brother is visiting for the weekend so should arrive around 4 this afternoon bringing cakes with him.

I hope everyone has a good day
