Cheltenham won't be voting Labour
FOREST Green Rovers have got the backing of Jeremy Corbyn in the National Conference title race, he revealed when he visited Dursley.
The Labour Leader of the Opposition called at the Littlecombe estate on the site of the former Lister factory, just over a month before the biggest local election in 14 years.
A vegetarian for 50 years, he backed the club, famous for its vegan menu for fans and players. Long-time friend and former Stroud MP David Drew is the club's vice-chairman.
"David is an old mate of mine and an absolutely brilliant person," said Mr Corbyn, who also met one of his three brothers on the walkabout. "I am sorry he is not in Parliament but I'm glad Forest Green Rovers are doing well. My son is a youth coach at Watford and he is very keen to see Forest Green Rovers play. It will happen and I will pay for my own ticket."
He said the vegan menu at the New Lawn 'absolutely appeals' to him and urged FGR to keep up the pressure on rivals Cheltenham Town.
"There is something really annoying in that every time Cheltenham stumble, FGR stop. But I think they are going to make it, I really do."
