I found this Youtube clip of Gloucester in the past. The sequences shown aren't in chronological order and seem to be between the 30s and 60s. It's possible that I'm in the crowd watching the carnival but it's impossible to identify their faces. I do remember the small plane crashing into the roof of the house, My father and I walked past that house a few days later on our way to Robsinswood Hill but the plane had been removed by then.
I don't watch boxing but when I was switching channels on Saturday evening I saw a few seconds of that boxing match which has been on the news. I changed channels fairly quickly as it was brutal. It didn't come as a great surprise when I heard later that Nick Blackwell had been taken to hospital and placed in a coma. I hope he doesn't suffer permanent brain damage.
Evening all.
Squiggle, I forgot to ask you if the children enjoyed the Easter egg hunt on Sunday?
I had a nice visit with my parents today.
I am now off to chill with a book.
Goodnight and sweet dreams everyone.
*night owls* I've had a very busy day, and have had to cancel all my plans tomorrow because I have to go into work. I need a holiday! It's been a good day though, don't get me wrong.
I hope you've all had a good day, hopefully I'll be around more tomorrow night
sweet dreams everyone, yogi enjoy your book and moonie, come back soon
p.s, squiggle- which movies are in your top 5?
I was thinking today, Grease ranks high on my list too, it would definitely make my top ten
I hope you all slept well I'm posting early today in case I get busy again and don't get the opportunity later.
I hope you all have a lovely day, and Moonie I hope you are starting to feel better
Good morning everyone
Some showers forecast here but not expected to be heavy.
Yogi, I'm glad you had a nice visit with your parents
Summer, I hope it's not too busy for you today
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone.
A chilly and bright start to the day. El, I hope any showers in your area, are light and fleeting.
Summer, I hope you are busy enough to be good for profits but not busy enough to tire you out.
After three days of visiting/visitors, I am going to concentrate on housework and ironing today. Have a good day everyone.
Good morning everyone, lots of blue sky but a very cold wind. I hope you manage to get all the housework and ironing done Yogi. There was a change of plan on Sunday and they decided to take the kiddies to the beach and then wander around the harbour. The littlest one was fascinated by the fishing boats, and liked to feel the sea breeze on his face. His uncle has given up being a chef, he got fed up with being stuck in a kitchen churning out hundreds of dishes exactly the same, and is working on a fishing boat now, which he loves. Then they were all treated to lunch by my youngest grandson. Bless them by the time I picked them up to take back to Mum the little girl fell fast asleep in the car while the baby was still going strong and singing along to the car radio.
Summer it's a difficult one picking top 5 films. As well as films I love, musicals especially, Oklahoma, South Pacific, King & I, there are films with memories. Going to the cinema with my older sister, 10 years older, I remember Moonlight Bay and By the Light of the Silvery Moon with Doris Day and Gordon McCrae (probably my first crush) and singing all the songs on the way home - I did the harmony. The Wizard of Oz when we (my sister and younger brother and me) were driven to London to watch it by my older brother. I was maybe 5 and my younger brother 3 years older, and we all sang 'We're off to see the wizard' all the way home. Watching It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World with my hubby when we were courting - such a silly story but such fun. The Court Jester, again so silly. It's a Wonderful Life. Miracle on 34th Street, I liked the Richard Attenborough one, The Railway Children, Elf. I could probably think of loads more but I don't think I could ever pick a number 1.
Enjoy your day everyone
Squiggle, I agree I don't think I could ever pick a number 1 film either. I do know that the vicar who used to be at our church had The Court Jester as his favourite film and I gave him a DVD of it.
Looking at our posts if we collectively had to pick a number 1 it would be It's a Wonderful Life as we all mentioned that. The American Film Institute had a poll of the most inspirational films of all time. Not really surprising that it was the top film. Incidentally the second film was another of your favourites To Kill a Mockingbird.
On my computer I have an antiviurus program through my local computer supplier. Although it's AVG, it's not the free one that people often use but a commercial one where my suppler can access if there's a problem. I found on Saturday that the regular update from AVG had turned the a/v off. The Windows Action Centre had a warning symbol so I realised this immediately. There's no reason to think that this would have happened with the generally used AVG s/w.
I have a daily scan set up and usually check that afterwards to see if there's anything picked up. Although the scan does have a pop up of results the scan is timed over my lunchbreak which is why I check. I noticed that the time shown on the results reports was the same time as that of the scan started rather when it finished. So I investigated that and discovered that the settings of the scan had also been changed from whole computer to selected drives & folders but none selected.
I contacted the supplier to let them know as it could have happened to their other customers.

Squiggle, that sounds like a lovely day out for the children.
Glad to hear your youngest grandson is so happy with his career change. Much better to be in a job he enjoys.
Just popping in to say goodnight and sweet dreams everyone.
Evening all I'm glad I popped in early this morning because my day has been non stop. It's all good though
El, I do hope that your computer is alright. Will avg contact you?
Squiggle, your post today was delightful, thank you I too am pleased that your grandson is enjoying his new job, and I'm sure he's learned plenty in his chef era, so that will just be carried forward with him in his life's journey
the children sound charming, I should imagine they warm everyone's hearts.
I love your film choices, there's a few I haven't seen yet, but it's always good to have recommendations. The only film I'm not keen on is the wizard of oz, but only because it frightened me as a child lol
leaving goodnight & get well hugs for moonie as well as hugs for Ros & Velvet
night yogi summer velvet
Good morning everyone
Plenty of blue sky here today.
Summer, I was able to change the settings on my AVG to be what I had set them up to be and also did a full computer scan (nothing bad reported). I've checked this morning that the settings are as I set up and will keep a check on them. I think my computer is OK but if necessary go back to my supplier (who is local).
The Wizard of Oz is a scary film for some young children and it was originally classified as with a A certificate (which meant that local councils could require a child to be accompanied with an adult) rather than a U certificate. It's the flying monkeys scene in particular.
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone, we had a very heavy frost but the sun is burning it off pretty quickly and it is a simply glorious morning. The sea is a lovely silvery blue and very calm and everywhere you look it looks as if it is just getting ready to burst forth with colour and leaf.
I wasn't ever frightened by The Wizard of Oz but the first time I ever saw it was back in the days of when going to the cinema was a bit of a lottery, would the film be that magical word Technicolour or boring old black and white. And I can remember The Wizard of Oz starting and thinking oh it's in black and white and so when they land in Oz and it is all brilliant colour it was amazing. As for frightening, as I mentioned, my sister liked to take me with her to the pictures and she took me to see The Beast of 5 Fingers which frightened me to death for years, I don't know what certificate it had but I was definitely too young to see it. A favourite film as a child was Mighty Joe Young, early Ray Harryhausen film, he was the pioneer of stop animation films. I loved the theme tune Beautiful Dreamer and the story captivated me, of a young girl in Africa who bought a baby gorilla from travelling peddlers. Well the original was on TV a while ago and I thought I would watch it again. I cried my eyes out in the cinema when Mighty Joe Young saved the children in the orphanage and then fell and was killed. My Mum and sister-in-law who had taken me to see it tried to convince me he wasn't dead but I didn't believe them and it was only when I saw it again I realised they were right!
I hope the weather where you are is good too, enjoy your day everyone
Good morning it's a lovely day here, albeit chilly. I thought I was getting an upset stomach during the night but I've managed to get some medicine through me and calmed it down, phew!
Squiggle ismt S my it funny how our perception of movies can be different through younger eyes I used to love dirty dancing, the dresses & ballroom dances were colourful and pretty, but when I saw it again years later, I realised what the storyline actually was!
El I'm glad your computer is alright
By an odd coincidence there's been some complaints about Watership Down being shown on Easter Sunday afternoon. The new head of the BBFC has stepped in and said that the U ceritification given in 1978 is no longer appropriate by modern standards. If it is resubmitted to the BBFC it will get a PG.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-35924936
Squiggle, The Beast with Five Fingers was given a A certificate when it was released. When it was released on video in 1986 it was reclassified with a 15 so it's not considered suitable for younger children.
I've seen both the original Mighty Joe Young (the one you saw) and the more recent remake. Besides Ray Harryhausen, the director Ernest B Schoedsack and the origina; story writer Merrian C Cooper made the original King Kong film.
Summer, as you say, perception of movies does change over the years. I'm glad you recovered from your upset stomach
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (being shown on Channel 5 on Sunday) is another Disney classic which was originally released with a A certificate. The public didn't like that. I think that Graham Greene the writier who was a film critic at the time spearheaded the campaign and it was eventually replace with a U certificate.
I think it unlikely that this Disney short will ever get shown on television. It's a health warning film about malaria mosquitoes. It's a serious film with a message.
There is a surprise part way through.
Summer I'm glad you managed to head off that stomach upset and I hope it doesn't make a re-appearance.
Summer, the AVG scan on my computer worked at my specified time and worked as it should. The only thing I noticed was that it took longer than normal. I found that the scan had been set at basic rather than dynamic. Dynamic is the recommended setting. It's faster than basic though it takes more computer resources which doesn't matter to me as I'm generally having my lunch at the time.
Good afternoon Buddies
A brief visit so you can see I am still alive and kicking
Like the new name Sweet
Hope to be back again soon
Mooooooonie! we've been missing you, I hope you're starting to feel better
Is Snow White on this Sunday? I would enjoy that I've been buying some big shiny red apples, I forget their actual name but I call them "Snow White" apples
Moonie, I'm glad you are still alive and kicking
Summer, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is on Sunday on Channel 5 6.20pm to 8.00.
Incidentally the plural of dwarf at that time was dwarfs. Due to the popularity of The Hobbit and then Lord of the Rings books where the plural is dwarves that spelling became more commonly used.
Thanks El, I'll make sure I set that to record
i hope you all had a good day mines been busy but pleasant
night summer and everybody nice to see you back moons
Good morning everyone
Cloudier here than yesterday though probably no rain.
Summer, I'm glad yesterday wasn't too hectic for you
I hope everyone has a good day
Every day the Metcheck weather site has some news item about the weather. This is their article today
The recent craze of "vaping" electronic cigarettes has been attributed with increased "aromatic" rainfall across many parts of Europe throughout 2015/16 according to recent research.
Studies by the Puffington Institute show that some regions have recorded over 150% of seasonal rainfall in cities with high "vape" usage simply due to the extra water vapour being released by the devices.
Scientists Sean Combs and Bill Loney added "The recent vaping phenomena is only really just starting, but already we know it's having an effect. Some of them are like 1980's smoke machines! Last week I went to the vape shop to ask them about this and walking into the shop I thought I was on Stars In Their Eyes! You can't tell us that this isn't having an effect on the weather?"
Aromatic rainfall too seems to be on the increase. Last month, residents in Peterborough, vaping capital of the UK, noticed another bizarre side effect. One resident Marsha Mallow commented "Last month I brought my washing in after a rain shower and I could detect the aroma of something sweet on them! I had to try to explain to the husband why his smalls smelt of Rhubarb and Custard with a hint of menthol!"
Terry Bull, a researcher currently working on a solution to the problem said "One person can quite easily create a small cloud using their vape and some devices have the power to create small thunderstorms with the additional water vapour."
Orson Carte, a 58 year old recently converted "vaper" from Southend critisized the report by saying "Blimey! For forty years I've have people blaming me for making their clothes smell of smoke and now they are blaming me for making it rain!"
Research is ongoing....
Good morning everyone, disappointingly cold and cloudy today, I was just getting used to those glorious spring days. Let's hope it brightens later and is better wherever you all are.
Hi Moonie nice to have you back with us again
I watched the Disney Snow White a little while ago and it was lovely. I've got the Disney Cinderella and the most recent Cinderella to watch sometime too.
Enjoy your day everyone
An exclusive news story on my local news website today
Gloucester to get its own 'absolutely massive' Hollywood-style sign
We've known for ages Gloucester's the Hollywood of England â now it's set to be made official.
Robinswood Hill will become home to the city's own giant white sign, we can exclusively reveal today.
Spokesman for organisers the Gloucester On Top Consortium of Hollywood Alignment (GOTCHA) Prila Loof said: "We can't wait to put Gloucester on the global map, and what better way to do it than an absolutely massive sign?"
The group's director Joe King added: "We keep hearing this great slogan, Believe in Gloucester, and we're here to tell you we really believe.
"This is a city that needs shouting about. That the world needs to know about, hence the colossal sign.
"We thought long and hard about what to do for Gloucester and decided a mammoth sign - which will be so big you can see it from space - was the best way to go."
The group's artist impression of the sign reveals golfers using the city's course might be in for a shock, as it sits right on top of the 17th.
City golfer Paola Fril said: "Sounds like fun - I'm up for a bit of crazy golf from time to time and what better obstacle course than 10 huge letters to try and traverse your ball through?"

Hehe! That's my favourite April fools so far
Good morning I hope you all slept well
happy new month to each of you, I don't know where March went to!
squiggle, I too am looking forward to watching the newest version of Cinderella, it looks lovely
Prince Charles talking about gardening and encouraging his grandson to take an interest.

Although Prince George is not seen in the clip in the article, it's worth watching to see Prince Charles in a friendly chatty manner.
Yogi, I hope you've been having a good time with PB yesterday and today

Afternoon all.
El, I had a brilliant time with PB and she happily stayed for a sleepover.
To quote Squiggle, we made lots of happy memories together.
I need to read back but I hope everyone is well?
