Velvet, although a large proportion of our church congregation are of retirement age, there are youngsters as well.

The vicar started her Easter sermon, then spotted some young children at the front who had been given some Easter pictures to colour in. The vicar came down from the pulpit talking to one of the children who she had spotted in church a couple of weeks ago. She introduced the girl to the congregation and talked to us about the picture that the girl had coloured in. After a bit she magicked a small chocolate egg out of her pocket and gave it to the girl as a thank you for her pretty picture. And that was the sermon. Somewhat impromptu but I'm sure that the girl in particular will remember it for some time.

Hi Baz and Happy Easter

We had an interim minister. I felt he lacked oomph. And the demographics are terrible in the church these days. There's no youth

I saw the start of the Easter Service on BBC from St. Alban I think.  What tickled me was that the opening hymn was 'Jesus Christ is Risen Today, Hallelujah' and I have never seen such gloomy faces singing it If you can't be joyful about that heaven help you.  We have so many children in the church I go to now that when they go to Sunday School that's half the church gone - wonderful We have littlies tottering about all over the place, it's lovely.

Squiggle, I played back the St Albans Easter Service on iPlayer. I see what you mean about gloomy faces. I could see happier faces in the congregation but the cameras did seem to focus in on some particularly unhappy ones.

Although it is a C of E cathedral it also has a weekly Roman Catholic mass, the liturgy of the Russian Orthodox Church and worship in the German Lutheran and English Free Church traditions. The service you saw was a combined service so the congregation would have been multi-denominational.

No problem, I went off to make some toast.

Good morning everyone

A very wet and windy night here but nowhere near as bad as on the news further south.  I hope Storm Katie hasn't caused any problems for anyone here

Yogi, I'm glad you had a good time with PB and BB and that PB liked your gifts

Summer, you may be interested to hear that there is a book sequel to Gone with the Wind called Scarlett. It was written by Alexanfra Ripley rather than Margaret Mitchell. It's about what happens to Scarlett after the conclusion of GWTW.

You will see on that link that a DVD is also available. That's an American TV mini-series obviously with a different cast. Note that according to a Wiki article it diifers to the book in plotlines. Although it says it's playable in all regions it's in NTSC format rather than the UK PAL format.

Good morning everyone, we've had quite a pounding from Storm Katie overnight but it's quieter now.

Summer you did make me laugh with your running commentary on Gone With The Wind.  It certainly is an epic story.  I'm a purist and if Margaret Mitchell left it there then that's where I leave it too.  I'm the same with Pride & Prejudice, the original author's vision for me, but we are all different aren't we?  I think I read the book before I saw the film and it is the image that was in the book that is strongest in my mind.  Say what you like about Scarlett she certainly had a mind of her own

Have a lovely catch up with your best friend Yogi, and enjoy your day everyone

Good morning it's overcast but not bad here, I hope all of you in storm Katie's path stay warm, dry and safe

what are your plans today?

Yogi go I hope you have a wonderful day with your best friend

squiggle I'm glad I've entertained you I was very surprised at where it ended, but now it's sunk in, I do think it a good ending. Scarlett and rett are brilliant characters, it's just a shame there wasn't a happy ending for them.

El, I'm going to read that article now and then come back with a review for you. Did the original author know about the sequel?
