Good morning everyone.    It's grey, cold and very windy here this morning.  Sorry I didn't get into the thread yesterday but after my dental check up (got to go back next week to have one old filling removed and replaced) No.2 son arrived for a visit.  He's out with hubby today looking for a new car so I've got a little bit of free time.

My hairdresser is due around 11.00 am to cut and colour my hair.  After that I've finished all my appointments for this week, thank goodness.

Checked with hubby's company health insurers and I am pleased to say that all consultantions, x-rays, scans etc, plus surgery the consultant might suggest is required, will be covered in full by the insurers.  So that's some good news.

Will try and get back later.  Have a good day whatever you are doing.

Good morning to everyone, Yogi, Joyron, El Loro, Skylark and Ros extremely windy here too.

Skylark you made me smile 'I share this computer with my son, well it is his'   I'm glad all is covered for your medical bills Joyron, puts your mind at rest and it'll be nice when the dentist is finished and you know your teeth are in good order   Take care Yogi and make sure you don't blow away, don't put an umbrella up whatever you do   I'm hoping against hope that the wind might have died down a bit when I venture out later.

My boiler failed to fire up this morning so I am waiting for the call from the boiler engineer again (my insurance company's Home Emergency service), wonder what it is this time

Skylark, the census does have a question on what amounts to sexual orentation:
They ask what is your legal marital or same-sex civil partnership status and split the possibilities between marital and same-sex.

Good afternoon everyone

With the postings about the wind, it reminds me of that recent advert on television where the little cartoon person is struggling to walk into the wind and eventually gets blown away.

squiggle, I hope your boiler gets sorted out fast . Now that my boiler thermostat/transmitter is in the same room as the boiler, I have had no problems since

Skylark, hope you have a good time with the wee one and she doesn't go berserk with her art work

^^^^^ That's what I looked like, coming out of Morrisons today. It was only the weight of my shopping trolley which kept my feet on the ground.

Skylark, enjoy your day with the little one.

Joyron, that's good news about your health insurance. At least you know now that everything will be covered.

Squiggle, I hope you get your boiler fixed soon. We Buddies seem to have had more than our fair share of heating problems this winter.

Good afternoon everyone.    It's been really windy here today so it's bitterly cold, but we have had some sunshine.

Squiggle, sorry to hear about the boiler problems.  Hope things get fixed very soon.  Yes we in this thread certainly do seem to have our fair share of heating problems don't we?  My oil tank is getting to the stage where I need to order some more oil but I'm frightened as to what the cost will be this time bearing in mind all the problems in Liyba etc.

Skylark, enjoy your day with the little one.

Won't be back again tonight.  Will catch up with you all tomorrow.  Have a good evening.

I've just had a Greek man knocking at my door trying to get me to change to Sky phone and broadband. I told him that I had changed to Virgin (which would have been obvious to him as he would have been able to see the cables), but he went on. I then told him that my phone line was kaput (a german word, but is also used in Greece as well as the UK) so he said that they would change it for free. I said I wasn't interested, and as he was still trying, I told him again and politely shut the door.

You all know the troubles I had with broadband when I was with Orange and using the BT line, and I'm not going to start going back to using a BT line.

I don't blame you, El.

Good morning everyone

At present, it's a pleasant spring day here, but is expected to cloud over later. I know the forecast for the north is not good for today and tomorrow, let's hope it's not too bad.

Another reason for staying with Virgin is that I could get 50mb broadband if I wanted to, but only up to 20mb with Sky.

And in a recent report on claims for broadband speed is this partial summary showing how various ISPs performed:

AVERAGE DOWNLOAD SPEEDS

  • BT 'up to' 8Mbps - 4.1 to 4.8Mbps
  • Orange 'up to' 8Mbps - 3.3 to 4.3Mbps
  • Plusnet 'up to' 8Mbps - 3.4 to 4.4Mbps
  • Virgin Media 'up to' 10Mbps - 9.5 to 9.7Mbps    This is what I have
  • BT 'up to' 20Mbps - 6.9 to 8.7Mbps
  • O2/Be 'up to' 20Mbps - 9.9 to 11.6Mbps
  • Sky 'up to' 20Mbps - 7.4 to 8.8Mbps     This is what I would get
  • TalkTalk 'up to' 24Mbps - 7.7 to 9.3Mbps
  • Virgin Media 'up to' 20Mbps - 17.4 to 18.6Mbps
  • BT 'up to' 40Mbps - 30.5 to 33.1Mbps
  • Virgin Media 'up to' 50Mbps - 43.9 to 47.2Mbps         This is what I could have

Hi Skylark. That tallies with the results above. I don't know if you use wireless broadband or wired, but I saw this article yesterday which indicates that wireless is 30% slower than wired. Doesn't matter for emailing, but does for downloading video and watching online TV.

Good morning everyone, cloudy skies here but not too grim looking.  The boiler guy is coming tomorrow but I am managing well with the halogen heaters, its a nuisance having no hot water but its bearable.  He would have come yesterday afternoon but I was going out.

I have a BT phone line but they are not my ISP.  I think my broadband speed is way low but it seems adequate for everything I want so I don't worry.  It downloads everything quite quickly and if I am watching on iPlayer it all goes smoothly.

Enjoy your day with your little sweetheart Skylark, I am a little envious because I love the littlies.  When they are finding out about the world they are such fun to be with aren't they, but admittedly they are little bundles of energy.
