Good afternoon and very well said regarding the end of the Christmas season! Squiggle, I too am staying in the zone with those heart warming movies

happy new year moonie don't be away too long

work was very busy, but pleasant. Everyone wants New Years hair cuts

I'm glad your day went well Summer. I was just thinking, it seems ages since Christmas and yet the time has shot by, time is very odd isn't it?

Good morning everyone, I don't know about Storm Frank but it has been torrential rain and gale force winds here.  It has eased off a little now but I'm not very up to date with the weather forecasts so I don't know whether that's the end of it or not.

Good luck to all those who have to go out in it today and I hope the rain doesn't get worse for those who live in areas where it hasn't been too bad so far.

Enjoy your day everyone

Love this picture

Any of you going to try War and Peace when it starts on BBC? Looks as if it's BBC's flagship drama of 2016. Scripted by Andrew Davies (who has done many of the classic BBC adaptations over the years). At 6 1 hour episodes it must miss out quite a lot of the book. Hopefully it won't be made too modern though I've seen mention of what was a rumoured incestuous relationship between HÃĐlÃĻne and her brother Anatol in the book being more obvious (it's legal in Russia).

I may see it squiggle. I never saw the 1972 BBC adaptation (Anthony Hopkins). I have probably seen the Hollywood 1956 version though Henry Fonda as Pierre and Audrey Hepburn as Natasha, much as I like them, were odd choices. I have seen the 1967 Russian version which is an amazing film but being 7 hours long in Russian (Englsih subtitles) is too much for casual viewing.
Andrew Davies's adaptations include the most popular version of Pride & Prejudice, Middlemarch and Bleak House (the 2005 version). Gillian Anderson who was in Bleak House is also in War and Peace.

I'm glad the weather isn't too bad in your area. It's been windy here this morning but has lessened now. Raining but not like it was when I posted a couple of hours ago. Someone I know used to live in Castle Douglas in Kirkcudbrightshire (part of Dumfries & Galloway) but has moved south. Her son still lives there and Castle Douglas is in the risk area from storm Frank.

Hi El, was just watching Sky news, yes its bad there. As you know, Hogmanay a big deal here and still the tickets for the street party not sold out, first i remember . People want to stay indoors it seems. heavy rain predicted for tomorrow night. Fireworks still going ahead, as far as i know, wind will decide that one x

Thanks Skylark I know there are concerns at Whitesands and Newton Stewart. My friend's house is close to the River Dee north of Castle Douglas but her house doesn't seem to be on the flood risk area on the Scottish environment map. Houses on the other side of the road are at greater risk if the river bursts its banks there.

Good evening a mild but stormy day here today, the wind has been tipping over bins & damaging fences etc. I hope you're all warm & dry

I saw the advert for war & peace, and noticed lady rose from downton is in it, among other famous faces.

I don't know the story and haven't read the book, but I was tempted to record the show and give it a try. You all know the Andrew Davis's adaptation of pride & prejudice is still my all time favourite

squiggle, the time between Christmas and now really has gone quick! I can't believe we soon have to think about packing away our beloved Christmas decorations

Crikey squiggle, I hope it subsides soon, has a river burst its banks?

I don't think so, that area is very low lying, it's right near Watermouth Cove which is obviously sea level.  As EL says I am much higher up but the rain is pouring down again and there is some standing water around my pond.

Skylark, a Happy New Year to you and the family.

Squiggle, stay safe and dry and I hope the flooding in your area subsides soon.

El, I hope your friends aren't badly affected by the flooding.

Localised flooding in some roads up here but nothing on the scale of the pics we've seen on TV. Eldest sons car cut out when he attempted to drive through some flood water to get home. Fortunately, after quite a while he got it going again.
