*night owls*

sorry I didn't get back on here earlier, my day turned out somewhat unexpected. I walked for hours, it was such a lovely day. Then, I cooked a roast duck dinner which we enjoyed. Then, my mum was knitting away at her projects, which motivated me to start some new Christmas craft projects... And before I knew it, a good few hours (and 3 glasses of Tia Maria) had vanished! It's been great fun though

moonie, my brain isn't thinking logical on that puzzle either can someone please reveal the answer?

squiggle, how very heartwarming to hear that your great grandson has brought so much joy to your family Christmas. I'm delightful for you

yogi, what has inspired the new furniture? Are you redecorating? How do you choose new furniture?! I've had the same old couch for 10 years now, I really should just get a new one but I wouldn't know what to choose

I hope the rest of you had a good day, sweet dreams

Logic Problem - Take one fruit from the crate labelled 'Oranges and Apples'.

We know all boxes are incorrectly labelled, therefore the box that says 'Oranges and Apples' must have only one type of fruit in it. So we take one piece out of it and that tells us what it's whole contents are. If we pull out an orange then that's the crate of oranges, similarly, if we pull out an apple then it's the crate of apples.

Lets put the correct label on it and take the incorrect label (Apples and Oranges) off.

We now have one correctly labelled crate, one incorrectly labelled crate and one unlabelled crate.

If we put the 'Apples and Oranges' label on the unlabelled crate then the third crate would still be wrongly labelled, therefore the label from the third box must go on the currently unlabelled box and the 'Apples and oranges' label goes on the 3rd box.

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all relaxed and enjoying the Bank Holiday.  It's a dry day here which makes a pleasant change.  My thoughts are with those who are not so lucky and have been flooded out

Well done EL on finding that film, warmly recommended to all.  EL if you come across The Christmas Angel (I think that was the title) about a woodcarver who carves a replacement nativity set, again well worth watching.

Thank you Summer, he really is a little sweetheart and it's hard to put into words the joy you feel when only a short while ago - it seems - his Daddy also captured my heart, children are such a blessing.

Enjoy your day everyone

Moonie, I hope you enjoy your football marathon

I wonder if any of you know who first produced logic puzzles?
The person responsible is famous.
Answer is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logic_puzzle

The first logic puzzle in the book that person wrote is:
Some new cakes are unwholesome.
No nice cakes are unwholesome.
So what can be deduced from those two sentences?
That some new cakes cannot be nice.

Good morning Buddies

Sweet, pleased your day went so well

Me and logic have fallen out

Squiggle, if I was anymore relaxed I would be asleep

Three live footie matches on from midday so that's my day sorted

Yogi, El and Fluffs, hope you all have a great day

Don't give up, it's just a case of conditioning your brain to anylize things more closely.

The fruit boxes:-

We know they are ALL incorrectly labelled.

SO......
Crate 1 says Apples, therefore it contains either All oranges or both types of fruit.

Crate 2 says Oranges, therefore it contains either All apples or both types of fruit.

Crate 3 says Apples and Oranges, therefore it contains either All oranges or All apples.

We are told we can only take ONE piece of fruit out of only ONE crate to determine the correct labelling for ALL THREE crate.......so how do we decide from which crate to take it?

Well.....
Crate one COULD have oranges OR both fruits, if we took one fruit from there and it was an orange we couldn't tell if it was the crate of oranges or the crate of both fruits as Oranges belong in BOTH of the other types of crates.
If, however, we pulled an apple from crate 1(which is incorrectly labelled APPLES) we instantly know that that crate must be the crate of both fruits and thus the crate labelled ORANGES must contain apples and the crate labelled APPLES AND ORANGES must contain just ORANGES.
BUT.......as we don't know whether we are going to pull an apple or an orange from that crate we don't know if it will give us a definitive answer as to which crate contains what!

Taking a fruit from crate 2 follows the same scenario as for crate 1, just that the apples and oranges are swapped with each other.

Crate 3 - As neither crate1 nor crate 2 can give us a definitive answer, the answer must lie in crate 3.
It is labelled 'Apples and Oranges', but we know that is wrong, therefore that crate must contain only one type of fruit and thus whatever fruit we take out of it is the only type of fruit that's in it.

Afternoon all the bank holiday means I get an extra day off work- yay! These last 4 days have gone by so quickly, but I've really enjoyed it.

Love the apples/oranges explanation, thank you! And of course it all sounds very simple now I know the answer I used to do a lot of logic puzzles when I lived at home and my parents always had puzzle books laying around. I had forgotten all about it until now

skylark I hope you get your feet up for this afternoon and I'm pleased you've all enjoyed Christmas

moonie i hope you are enjoying all the sport

~Sparkling Summer~

Afternoon all.

Weather is overcast but dry. Edit: it has started to rain.

Skylark, I'm glad you had a good Christmas. I hope you get the chance to relax at some point soon.

Fluffs, it took me ages (Mr Yogi can confirm, I don't have a logical brain), but I did get the right answer to the puzzle.

Summer, we haven't decorated the livingroom for ages so it is due a revamp. We've ordered new sofas but they won't be ready till mid March, so I have time to brace myself for the chaos.

El, I like the sound of that fruit smoothie.

Moonie, enjoy the sport. Hubby has settle down to watch Rangers V Hibernian. (Skylark and I will be supporting opposing teams).

Squiggle, you won't be surprised to know, I completely agree about children being a blessing.

Good morning everyone

Relatively sunny day here at present. Tomorrow won't be.

Ros, I saw your post about not being able to post some pictures. You mention about not being allowed to. That indicates to me that you were trying to upload pictures from your own computer/device. You do need VIP status as you suspected to be able to do that. Alternatively upload the picture on to something like Photobucket and then from Photobucket to the forum,

Summer, I hope your return to work day isn't excessively busy

El Loro

Good morning everyone, some blue sky this morning, so far it looks like a lovely day.  I haven't looked at the weather forecast in case something nasty is coming to spoil the illusion

Wow sounds like a brilliant shopping trip, well done Yogi.  Summer I hope you have a nice relaxed day not too busy but ticking over nicely.  The Christmas break has shot by but I am regarding the whole of this week as part of it so still enjoying the Christmas movies and staying 'in the zone'.

Enjoy your day everyone
