Good luck with the MOT today Squiggle.  My car is three years old next month so it will need it's first MOT then.  I passed my driving test at the first attempt at the ripe old age of 20!!  Although I consider myself quite a good driver I drive because I HAVE to, not because I WANT to.  Living where I do I wouldn't be able to get to the shops, doctors etc without transport.

Talking about the doctors, I have my six month asthma clinic check up later this morning.  I'm still suffering the after effects of the cold I had at Christmas so I don't know what sort of results I will get today.

Will be back later.  Have a good day everyone.
Its been a long harsh winter Joyron so I am not surprised you are still suffering the after effects of the cold you had at Christmas.  I hope all goes well with your check up and then we all need to see the sun for a while don't we?

Thanks for your reassuring words El Loro

That's good news Joyron

Locally there's still a lot of cold bugs around, and also the norovirus is around as the main hospital in Cheltenham is currently closed to all visitors other than on compassionate grounds due to an outbreak there. Although I've been in contact with lots of people with bugs, apart from a cough at Christmas, I have escaped the dreaded lurgies so far this winter.

Did you know that the dreaded lurgy was first released on the public on 9 November 1954? It was invented for an episode of the Goon Show written by Spike Milligan and almost certainly with considerable help from Eric Sykes.

Hi everyone, I haven't got the car back yet but its looking OK   I spoke to the mechanic and because the car is so old the local stockists don't carry parts like the air filter etc so they are having to wait until tomorrow.  He said underneath the car is amazing.  He said you get some cars which come in and are three years old and the screws underneath are rusted up but underneath my little car everything is shiny and in wonderful condition.  I explained how this little gem of a car had been so lovingly cared for by the guy who bought it new and cared for it all its life and he said he had done a great job.  I had an idea this was the case because I took it into National Tyres last year to get four new tyres and of course they look it over when its up on the ramp to try and get more business, exhaust, brakes etc and he said there was nothing else it needed.  Wasn't I lucky to be able to buy this wonderful car for ÂĢ675?

So glad all went well at the doctors Joyron, I am sure once the spring comes you will soon shake off the after effects of the cold.

Squiggle, that should put your mind at rest. You are lucky to have a car which lasts for years and years and remains in good condition. Although I live in Gloucester, it is effectively a coastal town, so there is salt in the air which makes cars rust faster. And with the state of the roads and a high level of speed bumps, that doesn't help cars either, particularly with tyres, exhausts and suspension.

Glad to hear all appears to be well with the MOT Squiggle.  I assume you will get the car back tomorrow, going by the time!!

I suppose I'm really stronger than I thought I was!!!   I'm a "tough old bird" really.    Just got to sort out my kneee and hip now.    Working up to a consultant appointment at the local private hospital over the next few weeks (courtesy of hubby's private health insurance).  Don't want an operation but fear that maybe the next step.  Will have to wait and see.  It's been three years since I took any advice on how things are going so I suppose it's time to update where we go from here!!!

Won't be back tonight.  Will catch up with you all tomorrow.

El Loro I live right by the sea, but I make sure I take the car regularly to a really good car wash which also does underneath the car, I think this helps.  It does not have brushes but sort of microfibre strips on the rollers and it comes out looking a treat.  I do handwash and wax it now and then but I am happy to know that the car wash is getting rid of the damaging salt.  Also my lane (which is unadopted) is full of bumps and potholes but I try to be careful.

Yes Joyron I should get the car back in the morning as long as the parts arrive, I am not going out so am in no hurry. Sleep tight, speak to you tomorrow, its good that you have got the private insurance to sort out your knee and hip .

At present it's dry and mild, but tonight there's going to be rain, then it gets cooler. And in the south, but not the north, it looks as if we are in for weeks of cool weather (max daytime temp 7 C when the average is around 11/12C) with potential frost at night (but not expecting snow).
Good morning everyone, EL that forecast sounds awfully gloomy when we have all been looking forward to some nicer weather Its drizzly here at the mo.

Hugs to all -  Yogi, Joyron, El Loro, Skylark and Ros

squiggle, the Met Office website has been updated to suggest that the temperatures recover to average after 2 weeks of cooler weather in the south (north stays at average), so that's slightly better than earlier  I just think that gardeners in the south should be cautious about planting outside just yet thinking that it's safe because of today's mild weather.

Joyron, good luck with the paperwork .

The BBC weather lady got it right for once. The rain stopped and the sun is out, although there is still a pretty cold wind, so it's colder than it looks.
I've got rosy cheeks, after taking the dog for a nice, long walk.

Good luck with the paperwork, Joyron. I do all the paperwork in this house, although I have suggested hubby could do it. He says it's better if I do it, because I'm so good at it.

Yeah that's what my hubby used to say , but on the positive side it meant that when he died I wasn't having to deal with stuff I wasn't used to

That revised weather forecast sounds slightly better EL

They have delivered the car back for me now, it sailed through again (they had to put new windscreen wipers on the front because the ones that were on were not making proper contact with the windscreen)  Oops those were the ones that me and my grandson had fitted after we found some spares in the boot, and I thought we had done an ace job , turns out we were rubbish after all.
squiggle
squiggle, that's a relief that you've got your car back and no major problems found. I don't think you are rubbish - you may remember that I had to get my exhaust replaced in a hurry, took it to ATS to get it replaced, and found that when I took the car in for MOT/service that ATS hadn't fitted the exhaust correctly so that had to be sorted out. So if the likes of ATS can't do this, what chances do we have.
El Loro
EL I had watched a clip on UTube how to fit a windscreen wiper, and it really was the blind leading the blind but we got 'em on and they seemed to work oh well, the mechanic has replaced them now and I think I will nip in to Halfords before the MOT next year and get the whole lot changed.

The mechanic said that as I don't do a high mileage each year it would only need some things replaced next year and then the whole thing doing the year after next, which sounds hopeful that he thinks it will still be going OK

So pleased to hear the car passed it's MOT Squiggle.  No worries for another year anyway.

I an quite happy to look after the paperwork and finances and take the burden off Hubby, who has MORE than enough to cope with anyway!!!  As you say Squiggle, at least it does not come as so much of a surprise if you have to do it all the time!!!

Probably won't be about much over the weekend but will catch up with you all when I can.  Have a great weekend, whatever you are up to.

That's very true, Squiggle. I have a neighbour whose husband deals with all the paperwork, finance etc and she won't have a clue, when/if she has to cope on her own.
Good news about your car passing its MOT.

Enjoy your weekend, Joyron.

Hi Skylark, I am all well and I hope you are. .

It's very frustrating when computers play up - we have all become so accustomed to computers that we would feel lost without them. I don't know if you watch NCIS on Channel 5, but the latest episode's story centered sround the fact that the whole city's electricity supply had been put out of action for several days. So computers couldn't be used, nor could laptops or mobile phones once the battery had run out because the batteries couldn't be recharged. So the team had to solve the case the old fashioned way - only the boss was readily able to adapt as he was old enough to know how life was before computers.
