It was announced in the summer budget that the way dividends are taxed will be radically changed from next April (unlikely to affect the average person). It's caused some confusion in the accountancy profession and the Treasury has just published some examples to try and explain it.

https://www.gov.uk/government/...-allowance-factsheet

The only trouble is that there's an error in one of the examples. See if you can spot it (it's in example 3 and you don't need to be an accountant to see it).

I have notified them of the error so it's possible that it may have been corrected if you look at it.

Good morning everyone

Pleasant weather here at present but by late afternoon/evening it is forecast to get very wet for several days. Thunderstorms are quite possible.

Yogi, I hope your headache has gone and that you have a more relaxing day

Summer, no specific plans for me

But, Mousie, thou art no thy lane [you aren't alone]
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft a-gley, [often go awry]
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promised joy.

(Robert Burns of course)

A dismal start to that dismal theme park:

Good morning everyone, a miserable morning and I think we are forecast weather similar to yours EL.  I heard on the forecast this morning that it's 30 degrees and humid in London, that sounds awful so although it's chilly down here I would certainly prefer my weather to that.

I hope the paracetamol shift the headache Yogi and you have a good day. Have a good walk with Bramble Summer.

Why on earth would all those people be queueing for tickets to that place I wonder?  It's not that far from me but I certainly wouldn't want to go there.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

Squiggle, the weather is better here than where you are. It's expected to get warm here (27 forecast) and I think it could be a rather warm and humid night,

I've no intention of going to that "theme park" either. I'm not suprised that you wouldn't go there, particularly as at least one of the exhibits is from Damien Hirst.

For anyone interested in the original Thunderbirds series, some interesting news:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-34015095

For the 50th anniversary, 3 new episodes are to be made using new puppets from the original moulds, at the original place the series was made, and using uaidio recordings of the original cast. These episodes are unrelated to the recent CGI version and they seem to be being done as close as possible to the original.

Summer, the weather is expected to be wetter here than yesterday and tomorrow even wetter. Weather warnings already issued.

Sheltering under trees in a thunderstorm is dangerous as lightning bolts go for high obejcts rather than low ones. If you are out in the countryside and aren't near a building or car (the safer options), the safest thing is not to be to close to trees in case one fell over and to crouch down and cover yourself in a coat if you have one (not lie down as then you are in water which is very dangerous).

Good morning everyone, it's been raining stair rods all night and the pond is so full it is overspilling onto the ground around it.  We are promised a better afternoon though.  I hope the forecast is better where you are.

Good news that the road is re-opened again EL

Ridiculous about the Met Office, how long ago was there all that hoo-ha and millions of pounds spent relocating it to fancy new premises in Exeter.  Some in government don't seem to have the sense they were born with.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

Thanks Summer, Yogi and squiggle It's nice to have the road open again and means that the traffic coming down my road has gone back to normal levels. A neighbour opposite to me was complaining that the pavement outside his house had been damaged as a result of heaving vehicles having to come down the road onto the pavement as they had no other route.

Squiggle, your rain is moving northwards. There's been 6mm over the last hour and more is expected over the next couple of hours before it moves away.

I'm aware that some are trying to get the governemnt to step in to stop the BBC from ceasing to use the Met Office.

I knew that businesses could be fined for not dipsoing of waste properly but also residents can. Saw this today on my local news website. I've removed the person's name and address.

A resident who failed to dispose of his waste responsibly has been ordered by a court to pay ÂĢ1,275.

Mr X, 29, of xx Coleford, who initially pleaded not guilty to the offence, failed to attend the trial at Stroud Magistrates' Court on Monday, August, to hear the charges brought against him by the district council.

Magistrates heard that Mr x failed to take all suitable measures to secure the transfer of his waste to an authorised person. His failure led to the waste being fly-tipped. Ultimately the investigation and clean-up costs were borne by the local tax payer.

Magistrates found the defendant guilty.

Mr x was fined ÂĢ250, for the offence, ordered to pay ÂĢ1,000 in costs, plus a ÂĢ25 victim surcharge.

Councillor Marrilyn (as spelt in the article) Smart, district council cabinet member for environment said: "We are pleased with the result of this case. This is another successful prosecution of a local resident who has failed to dispose of their waste responsibly. We would remind residents of the importance of checking that waste operators are fully licensed before using their services. The Council will continue to actively pursue waste crime and investigate and prosecute where there is sufficient evidence."

A British Gas engineer is due to return tomorrow morning to attempt to complete the smart meter installation. Could be due any time from 8. No idea how long he'll be (assuming it's the same person as before) and it better not be a repeat of the 6 and a half hour ordeal of last time. If I'm not around here tomorrow, that's why.

So in advance

Good morning everyone

Wet here

Have a good day everyone

Hi Pirate.

It has been hot and sunny up here.

I'm fine, and hope you're well too.

That's what I call, thinking ahead!

I hope the engineer completes the smart meter installation speedily.

We took advantage of the good weather to cut the hedge at the bottom of the garden. Hubby chopped 2ft off the top, so it is now around 8ft high.

Very cloudy, at present it's dry bur rain is expected very soon though hopefully not as heavy as had been forecast.

I'm now waiting for the Britisg Gas engineer who could arrive any time from now. Yogi, the engineer had better complete the work a lot faster than the first visit

Good morning El. I hope the engineer installs the smart meter really quickly.

Good morning everyone.

Weather is dull and cloudy.

Housework and ironing awaits.

Have a good day all.

Good morning everyone, it's raining again, I'll end up with webbed feet at this rate.

I hope the meter engineer is in and out in a flash and does a good job too.

I wonder what you will be watching or listening to while you do the ironing Yogi, it goes much fast with something to watch or listen to doesn't it?

Enjoy your day everyone

Done

Engineer got the gas meter to talk to British Gas without too much difficulty so that's functioning.

Not bothering with the personal monitor - he wasn't aware that the previous engineer hadn't left me with one and didn't have one with him. As my usage is fairly static from day to day, the monitor wasn't something that I was particularly interested in and it's easy to check online as to what I have used each day. A monitor is of more use where there is more than one person living in the house. I could get one in the future if I ever decided to but I doubt if I will.
