Back in 1979 I was asked by the vicar to become the church treasurer. I informed my employer at the time. Although he was alright about it, he did say that I should not start trying to convert the firm's clients to Christianity. A couple of years later one of the other managers joined the Social Democratic party when it split off from the Labour party. Again he was told not to start trying to get clients to start voting for the Social Democrats.

I think people should be allowed to practice whatever religion they believe in. I just choose to keep my views to myself. When it come to politics and religion I generally manage to 'ruffle a few feathers' with some of my comments, so have decided to keep them to myself

Thanks all, had a bit of an arthritic flair up, but getting it under control now.

Weather here, cloudy and very humid, its tiring. 
GD got home safely from her holiday in Spain. Enjoyed it very much. They avoided the beaches after recent events but still had a good time. I was never so glad to see them home i can tell you!

Hi Moonie. My paternal papa (grandad) used to ban discussions in his house that involved politics or religion - must have been strange for my nana, who was the daughter of a lay preacher.

Yogi, I forgot to mention that you were correct with the titles of the two books

There was no ban on discussions in my parents' house on politics or religion. My mother made it rather obvious as to which party she supported and made it clear that we should follow. (I didn't necessarily agree with her and hadn't voted for the party she specified for many years but never told her to keep the peace )

Oddly enough neither of them are pink

A Gloucester Polish supermarket decided to repaint the outside of the shop:

Local residents don't like it and are "shocked" and "outraged" and the council has stepped in and ordered the owner to repaint the shop.

I intend joining you for CBB. Let's hope there are a few decent celebs in the house this time.

Hi Ros I hope the inspection goes OK, I am sure it is a nightmare and you will be glad when it's over I hope you can enjoy the holidays coming up and you don't have too much school work to get through during them.

I too hope that at least the Celebrity edition of BB will be better.  I have been getting in the mood by watching CBB 2007.  Amazing to see it with fresh eyes, knowing how it will develop.

Not that I'm interested but there's likely to be a gap between BB ending and CBB starting of around 3 or 4 weeks so you'll need to be patient. (BB started a week earlier than before & is a week shorter than anticipated and whoever goes in would have had to make sure their calendar was free ages ago making it unlikely they could start earlier).

El, I shall make sure my diary is very full as and when CBB starts

I gather you are not a fan of CBB.  Just out of interest is there perhaps a sporting star that would make you want to watch if they went in?

Squiggle, I have no interest in celebrity. The closest I get to watching celebrity is something like Celebrity Masterchef but that's not because there are celebrities but because of the cooking.

I thought that was probably the case with you EL.  It's not really about celebrity for me, it's people watching.  The interaction, and of course it can be interesting when some "celebrity" seems to think that they should be treated like royalty - the 'do you know who I am?' syndrome.

I liked some of the earlier ones but it seemed to have gotten into a rut. Has-beens trying to resurrect their careers by doing more and more outrageous things to get noticed

The BBC only made one series of Maestro some years ago. That had 8 celebrities conducting classical music and I enjoyed that series. It was won by Sue Perkins.

There was nothing in that though like this scene in Raising the Wind.
