Squiggle, I'm glad your washing machine is back in working order

This is what the BT landlines news is about:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/t...ines-compete-5947731

It looks as if over the next 10 years all customers will have their landline phone service provided over the internet rather than the landline. At present BT is required by OFCOM to provide a traditional landline service. Of course there's the issue as to anyone who does not use or wish to use the internet. I doubt that OFCOM would permit BT to abolish landline services until the number of people without internet was extremely small, It's a bit like analogue radio which had been intended to be discontinued this year but hasn't because so many people still use it.

Oh, and premium bonds will cease to be available through your local post office from the end of next month

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-33268538

In future everyone will have internet connection implanted in them so that they can do everything they want or need to do throughout their lives just by thinking about it. They could make a film about that.

Oh, they already have.

El Loro

Evening all.

Weather has been very muggy. Let's hope the rain clears things a bit.

Squiggle, I'm glad you got your bed and washing machine sorted.

Summer, Kick up a stink until BT sort out your hub!

El, I hope all went well at your client visit.

PB and I had a good day and youngest son and his fiancee came for tea.

Good morning everyone

Cloudy and muggy here. Although there's a bit of rain around today it's likely to be minimal. May be less muggy tomorrow. Rain forecast for Sunday. Looks as if there will be a taste of real summer for next Tuesday to Thursday.

Yogi, the client meeting went well

I'm glad you had a good day with PB yesterday

Good morning very humid here, it's uncomfortably close.

I hope you all slept well

Squiggle, I hope you enjoy tea shop on the corner- I liked Carla's story.

El, what are you up to today?

Yofi I hope that all is going well with PB & houdini

Skylark, lovely to see you, we keep missing each other

Moonie I hope you're resting well and soon feel better

Velvet I hope you're in for a good weekend

I have written a record of the antics from bt and will be complaining officially as soon as I get my hub and connected online I am not confident in their assurances that I won't be charged for this week
~Sparkling Summer~

Summer, it's humid here as well.

It's a good idea to keep a record of your BT problems. There were big problems earlier this week with trying to file RTI reports online with HMRC. I do a payroll for one of my clients and ran into problems with filing. I wasted quite some time as a result with phone calls and emails with my payroll software supplier. Once the HMRC problems were sorted out I had to resubmit the RTI report but when I can I want to check on the HMRC site that the report hasn't gone through twice leading to an apparent doubling of PAYE/NI the HMRC are expecting.

It caused similar problems for accountants and employers across the country. I saw that one accountant landed up by resubmitting the report for one of his client 12 times. I hope that accountant doesn't discover that his client has a 12 fold increase in the PAYE/NI bill for the month.

Meanwhile today I'm working on a client's accounts. It's a bit unusual in that it's a bit like a members club but has quite a large portfolio of investments. The investments are from surplus funds rather than being an investment club. This means that capital gains tax has to be paid when investments are sold. The way tax is calculated is different to that for individuals with the result that there's no annual exemption level, and that it gets indexation relief based on inflation. The result is that all sales have to be reported to HMRC regardless of size and the calculations are more complicated than for individuals. It takes quite a lot of time and so my fee is a lot higher than it used to be before they went into investments. I did warn them about this when they started and they accepted it.

Another indication of the HMRC showing signs of disintegrating. Today I received their notice to me to file my tax return. Notice dated 6 April. In previous years the notice arrived in April. I know that some of my clients have received their notice late though some did get them some weeks ago.

(I've already filed my own return)

Hi all, managed to get back on, this computer is so slowww at times, it drives me nuts!!
Summer, i sympathise, hope you get things sorted soon. Hope you looking after yourself too xx
Hope you have had a lovely time with PB, Yogi x
Oh HMRC , my son still in battle with them, taking months to get things sorted, apparently he has the wrong code , and being paying far too much tax, they arent in any hurry to get it sorted

Very humid here too, uncomfortably so.
Love to moonie, hope you feeling well today, and others well too

Skylark, I know dealing with HMRC can be very frustrating and it was only this morning's news that they were criticised for not answering 25% of phone calls. I hope they het your son's tax code corrected as it's taking months to sort out. If he's been stuck on the BR code all this time he could ring them and say that he's been on the BR code ever since (whenever) but this is his only job. Can they please amend his tax code to the correct code and inform his employer.

It's humid here as well but tomorrow should be a bit fresher.

My brother's visiting me this weekend so I won't be around here much. He arrives in about an hour and will be bringing cakes with him. They are likely to be the Thorntons cake bars, a pack of chocolate ones, and a pack of toffee ones. Or are we going to start having to call them Ferrero cake bars. Ferrero has made a takeover bid for Thorntons this week and the Thorntons directors are recommending acceptance.

I hope everyone has a good weekend

El Loro

Evening all.

PB and Harvey have gone home, although Harv is returning for another Mon-Fri visit next week. We had a lovely time together and PB was happy and settled the whole time.

El, have a lovely weekend with your brother.

I didn't know about the proposed takeover of Thorntons.

Squiggle, I thought you would like The Teashop On The Corner.

Skylark, I hope your son gets his tax code sorted out soon. HMRC seems like organised chaos atm.

Summer, I'm pleased to say that Harvey Houdini did not make an escape bid. Fortunately, we hadn't removed the chicken wire Mr Yogi put up to keep him in.

Velvet, I hope all is well with you and the boss, and you have a lovely weekend.

Moonie, I hope you get well soon, we miss you!

Yogi19

Good mornng everyone

Blue sky with some fluffy clouds here.

Yogi, I'm glad you had a very good week with PB and Harvey

I was right, my brother did bring the Thornton cake bars I described

Moonie, I hope you get better quickly

Summer, I hope the sunshine stays for you today

It's probable that we will complete Broken Sword 5 today as we were getting towards the end when my brother was here last. Next adventure game will be The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (which might be a sort of sequel to The Book of Unwritten Tale).

El Loro

Went to M&S this morning with my brother to do my shopping. At the till the operator scanned the food I bought and I was surprised at the total of about ÂĢ48 as that was less than I was expecting as I had bought extra things such as fish for the freezer. So I queried it and the operator realised that some things were missing. So she cancelled what she had scanned and started from the beginning again. This time the total came to ÂĢ72 which was what I was expecting.

We bought a gooseberry custard crumble dessert from M&S for tomorrow to try - it's new. Should be very nice indeed.

El Loro

Good morning everyone

Some rain here this morning.

Summer, your weekend sounds hectic with doing your toe nails and brushing Bramble

Yogi, are you having roast pork today

We finished Broken Sword 5 yesterday afternoon as I expected. It's a decent adventure game and felt much closer to the first 2 in the series. started Boook of Unwritten Tales 2 and are currently trying to get some moon water but the heroine's mother is being a bit awkward about it.

El Loro

Good morning everyone, it's raining down here too and much colder.

I hope everyone's weekend is going well and that maybe for some the weather is better.  The heat that is coming to the South East next week sounds frightening, they are talking about 33 degrees .

I am glad you enjoyed Broken Sword 5 and I hope the new game works out well and is good to play EL.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

I've just dropped my brother off at the railway station after a pleasant weekend. He expects to visit me again in about 6 weeks subject to railway strikes/tube strikes. I know the national one seems to have been sorted out but there's potential problens ongoing.

Moonie, I hope you are taking care of yourself and are back here soon

Squiggle, the new game seems to be good. Good voice acting for an adventure game, apparently some 30 hours of game play which makes it longer than some games of this genre. Good music. We've been able to play it so far without the need to look at any walkthrough so it's not one of those which is so obscure that you give up. Graphics are spectacular on those computers able to get high quality graphics.
