Good morning everyone
At present there's some blue sky here, it's forecast to cloud over this afternoon. Possibility of some rain but not expecting any thunderstorms.
A swan and cygnets are on the A40 between Over and the Longford roundabout in Gloucester. Police are trying to rescue them - it's a very busy road indeed.
Good morning everyone.
It's raining up here.
I've been watching some sparrows and starlings feeding their babies in my garden this morning, very cute.
Have a good day everyone.

I hope the swan and cygnets are rescued quickly.
The resident swans from our village pond often take their cygnets for a walk through the village.
Yogi, that stretch of the A40 goes over the river Severn and there's also open water nearby so it would be attractive to birds.
Good morning everyone, it's a bit like Springwatch in here this morning I hope the swans and cygnets are rescued quickly, motorists are usually very good when they spot that birds are around and if the police are there the birds should be back on the water safely soon. How thrilling Yogi, will PB be around to see the baby birds and can you take a video on your phone to show her?
Not a bad morning here, a little nippy in the mornings but that's only because the sun is on the other side of the house to me. Skylark I hope your head cold is going away and leaving you able to enjoy a lovely relaxing weekend.
Enjoy your day everyone
Morning Buddies
Just popping in to say "hello" and take my food parcel, fankoo Yogi
I have been following two swans on the park pool at the bottom of our road, from the building of the nest to the now newborn cygnets. They are probably about two weeks old now. There was at least five but only noticed 4 the last time I was up there a couple of days ago
Sad but Mother Nature taking a hand I guess.
I will post a video of e swans close up when I am on my laptop ïŋ―ïŋ―
Have a great day and will be back soon
That swan doesn't like pigeons, in fact the other day it chased all the geese off the large pool, which is very large. Paying close attention to one it particularly hated
Hi Moonie
As you say, that swan really doesn't like pigeons. It would have been doing that to protect its cygnets.
This morning it was swans on the A40.
This afternoon, the Bristol Road in Gloucester has been closed off and some businesses there evacuated. Bomb disposal people called in to investigate suspicious package found in a car which a lorry had taken to a scrapyard:
http://www.gloucestercitizen.c...28-detail/story.html
Hopefully it will be a false alarm.
By the way I live about 3 miles away from where the suspect package is.
Bristol Road now reopened following a series of controlled explosions - the road leading off Bristol Road by the scrapyard remains closed. No news yet as to what the suspicious package was.
The BBC news at 1 pm today whilst I was having my lunch:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/e...news-at-one-05062015
See if you can spot the newsreader's error which is immediately after the opening news and sports headlines
Happy weekend to you Velvet as well
I saw your post on Jurassic World about Gena and John. I know one of the films you admire most is their Woman under the Influence.
There's an Ingmar Bergman film called Face to Face which is an equally challenging film and a very strong performance. Swedish but with Englsih subtitles on Youtube in two parts:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzwsmOJzPDQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMKO_zl9LZg
I haven't seen the film but it's highly regarded.
It's unlikely that anyone else here would want to see the film but I thought I'd mention it to you.
Evening all.
Squiggle, PB saw the sparrows feeding their babies when she was here on Wednesday. She sat watching them through the kitchen window for ages.
Gosh El, it's been eventful round your way today. I'm glad the swans are back where they belong and the dodgy package was safely detonated.
Moonie, good to see you back, we have missed you. I loved the swan and cygnet video.
Velvet, I hope you and the boss have a good weekend too. Will you be off on a jaunt or stopping at home?
It'll be round the houses this weekend Yogi
I'm hoping for a quiet one.

If you go into the Darnies and Cribsters threads, you will see two different videos of the cygnets

I'll go have a look.
I love the videos, Moonie. They should give you a job on Springwatch!
Goodnight and sweet dreams everyone. Night owl hugs.
I love the videos, Moonie. They should give you a job on Springwatch!
I have about twenty other videos from the start of nesting up until the ones you have seen. Still piccies too
Nite nite, sleep well and have sweet dreams Yogi
Good morning from a wet and very windy Scotland!
Moonie, feel free to post any/all of the videos and pics if you want to. I'd love to see them.
Summer, any big change produces mixed feelings, but you just concentrate on your new beginnings.
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning everyone
A fairly sunny day here though cloudier than yesterday and it won't be as warm. Not expecting any rain.
Yogi, I hope the weather improves for you
Skylark, I hope you've recovered from your cold
Summer, wise words from Yogi
Good morning everyone, the forecast is for a sunny day but we've just had quite a heavy shower I hope the sun is shining where you are.
I think your instincts are telling you that you have made the right decision Summer and I am glad that you are full of that lovely hopeful 'new beginnings' feeling
Yogi I am pleased that PB was able to watch the nestlings, so important because that way they learn about the natural world around them and that all creatures are important and valuable.
Enjoy your day everyone
More on that suspicious package found in a car taken to a scrapyard in Gloucester yesterday:
http://www.gloucestercitizen.c...58-detail/story.html
It seems that although the package was not explosive it had been made to look like a bomb. The police are continuing their investigations.
Afternoon Buddies
Hope your weekend goes well
Sorry to say bad news to report. Been up the park this afternoon and cruel Mother Nature has taken another of the cygnets
Just three out of at least five left now
Silly I know but am very upset. Followed them from nesting to now. Sad to see them down to three. Let's hope they all survive
Have a lovely evening
That's sad news, moonie As you say, let's hope the other cygnets survive
Oh no Moonie! Mother Nature can be very cruel at times, and I can understand why it's upset you.
Squiggle, I agree with you that it's important to teach little ones about the natural world. My parents, particularly my dad, encouraged us to take an interest in birds and nature, and I hope to pass that on to PB.
El, I hope they get the sick people who made the fake bomb!
Goodnight and sweet dreams everyone. Night owl hugs.

Good morning everyone
Clear blue sky here at present and hardly a breeze.
I'm not going to it but will probably hear some of it as I'm just under a mile away from where Reg Dwight sings this evening.
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone.
Weather is be be a mix of cloud and a little sunshine. At least the strong wind has disappeared.
El, will you be bopping along to the sounds of Elton?
Last night, I saw a little sparrow manage to get itself inside the nut feeder and help itself to a nut banquet. A bird or squirrel must have managed to prize the lid up. I tried to get a pic but the combination of low light and the backdop of high hedge made it impossible to get a clear pic.
This is the type of nut feeder I have.

Have a good day everyone.
Good morning everyone, looks like its going to be a nice day
I hope the concert isn't too intrusive EL. Sad news about the cygnet moonie
Cheeky bird helping himself to a nut feast Yogi you have to admire his initiative though.
Enjoy your day everyone
Morning everyone
Sunny but still not that warm again yet. Still it's dry so that's good
Just been down to the local town. Bus service dire on a Sunday. Hourly service and all the buses seem to come within an eight minute time frame
Have a great Sunday everyone
Yogi, I doubt if I'll be bopping along this evening
I reckon it was more likely to be a squirrel prizing the lid up on your nut feeder.
Squiggle, I wouldn't expect the concert to be too intrusive. There have been music events at the rugby stadium before (Rick Wakeman last year and Madness a couple of weeks ago) and they weren't that noticeable. They're not like the SportBeat Fests which are held at the local playing field.
Moonie, the local bus service here on Sunday is hourly too.
