I have never attached a video here before El. I think it worked more by luck than judgement to be honest

But fankoo

Moonie, very few of us have attached videos here. I attached one for Summer ages ago but it's quite possible that you are the only other person here to have done so.

I did it just like you would for a picture and it happened to work or I would have been flummoxed

I love all the Easter pics, but sadly I can't post pics on the iPad!

Mr Yogi asked if I would go with him while he looked for a new laptop, then he'd take me for some lunch. Swedish meatballs in Ikea was not what I had in mind! They were very tasty just the same.

Hi Yogi

We finally have wall to wall sunshine here. I have just come in from tidying the bottom of the back garden

Have to say it only looks slightly better than it did before

but its a start

Did Mr Yogi get his new laptop?

That's the right way. It's the same for audio clips on your computer.

I loved the swan video and I would guess it is the same swans each year, Moonie. I have heard that swans usually mate for life.

We have two that stay in our village pond and raise signets every year. It's funny when they decide to take the signets for a walk through the village, and end up with lots of cars crawling along behind them.

It was lovely to see them 'protecting' their island

I remember you saying about those swans and signets with the cars following

One year I was walking around the park early one morning, 7-30ish. Very unusual for me to be up that early. Let alone be walking around the park

There is a slight bank up from the large pool to that smaller pool. I was amazed when first a large swan then several small signets followed by another large swan walked right in front of me. Looked at me then carried on to swim in the small pool

Thanks for that El

Something else I would have had trouble with

Evening Velvet.

I'm glad you've had a good day.

It was a kind thought to offer you the ring, which obviously had sentimental value.

Good morning it's a glorious morning here and looks to be a very promising start to the day
I hope you all have good weather too

We had a spur of the moment invite out yesterday afternoon, to SIL's where there's no phone signal, we had a lovely catch up with everyone

Moonie, thank you- bramble is in tip top shape lately, and full of the joys of spring
~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone

Lovely sunny morning here

I wonder how long it will be before I get the first phone call from someone trying to get me to cash in my pension pot. I suspect I could get lots of such calls. (New rules only apply to people with defined contribution schemes, not those with defined benefits schemes)

El Loro

Good morning everyone, a lovely bright morning here.  I am so pleased that everyone finally seems to be getting some good weather at last.

How poignant velvet, the offer of that ring must have meant a lot, as Yogi says it has great sentimental value.  There's few things in life more precious than family

How clever of Bramble Summer, now fess up did you help her just a bit? I'm glad your Easter is going so well.

Moonie a huge great well done on uploading your video clip  so nice to hear about the swans and their cygnets.  This is a lovely time of the year with everything springing up new, lambs in the fields and flowers bursting into bloom.  Talking of which good luck today with your potting on Yogi.  I hope all went well with Skylark's granddaughter's party.  I am sure she will pop by later to bring us all up to date.

EL I hope you don't get too many calls trying to tell you what to do with your pension pot, I hope your new phone enables you to weed them out and stop them in their tracks.

Enjoy your day everyone Ros not forgetting you, and hoping that your break is giving you some time to relax and forget about inspections and reports for a while.

Lol already, El?! I thought the stupid calls might start tomorrow at least I think it would be understandable if you didn't answer the phone on a bank holiday

I've been outside tidying up the garden, it is now free of weeds, dead wood and general mess. One of Mr Summer's ferrets bit my shorts as I leaned near the hutch to de-weed the patio
It was soooooooo nice to feel the sun & air on my skin for a couple of hours.

Bramble is super sleepy today bless her, she's been sunbathing outside

What's the latest on the fridge Moonie?

Yogi, I hope your pottering about is going well

Squiggle, what are you up to?
~Sparkling Summer~

Goes to check see if there is such a horse

Sweet, lucky escape there. The ferret could have bitten something more vital

Well done on you gardening extravaganza

I too have been in the front garden. It's looking a lot better now

Still more to do later but having a footie break now

Wall to wall sunshine now the cloud has burnt off

Ohh, washing on the line too

To keep it simple I'll just refer to standard rate taxpayers and not mention higher rate taxpayers.

People who were born after 5 April 1948 get an extra ÂĢ600 personal allowance which is ÂĢ120 less tax a year.

People who were born after 5 April 1938 but by 5 April 1948 get an extra ÂĢ100 personal allowance = ÂĢ20 less tax a year.

People who were born before 6 April 1938 get no change in their personal allowance which is now only just above the ordinary personal allowance.

As from 6 April, someone who is married or in a civil partnership and has an income uner the personal allowance can make a claim for some of their personal allowance to be transferred to their partner provided that the partner is a standard rate taxpayer. The maximum amount which can be transferred is ÂĢ1,060 (10% of the personal allowance) so is potentially worth ÂĢ212 tax to the couple. Note that this only apples where both partners are born after 5 April 1935.

As from 5 April anyone whose total gross income is under ÂĢ15,600 a year (ÂĢ10,600 personal allowance + ÂĢ5,000) isn't liable to pay tax on their interest income so can claim it back (or register with the banks etc to be paid gross).

If your gross income excluding interest is under ÂĢ15,600 a year than you may be able to get some the tax back on some of your interest income. You can't register with banks for some of the interest to be paid gross. As an example if your gross income excluding interest is ÂĢ13.600 that's ÂĢ2,000 less than ÂĢ15,600. If your gross interest income is ÂĢ5,000 then you can get tax back on ÂĢ2,000 of that interest so ÂĢ400 tax. You can't get more tax back than the amount of tax deducted at source on the interest.

(Ignore interest on any ISAs)

Thank you EL.  I asked because in their wisdom Inland Revenue suddenly decided that I had been underpaying some tax.  As I only have the State Pension and a teeny tiny pension of my own, less than ÂĢ80 per month plus half of my hubby's Post Office Pension, how this has come about is a mystery to me.  So they decided to rob deduct money from my tiny pensions until the debt is repaid!!  I was just hoping that with the raised threshold perhaps their fangs would be loosened a little and they would let me have something towards what I have paid in for, silly of me I know but well, as I have said before, I am an optimist.

Sweet, re the fridge...pretty strange goings on with it

The stuff in the freezer mostly veg, is definitely warming up but there is loads of ice still in there so that's probably why no water as yet.

On the other hand, the fridge is definitely not working cause the stuff in there is not cold. So, I am thinking the thermostat is not working.

I think we will need a new one now. This one is more than 20 years old

So had good device out of it

Squiggle, my guess is that the underpaid tax relates to previous tax years. Over the past couple of years HMRC had a huge exercise going through people's tax affairs, mainly for those who get income taxed through PAYE so employment income and pensions. They went back years and hundreds of thousands of people got tax calculations from HMRC going back in some cases 6 years. Some people had underpaid tax, some had overpaid tax.

In your case it could be that the tax codes the pension companies were using didn't have the right figures for the other pension. So for instance the tax code being used for the pension from the Post Office might have got the wrong figure for your own pension.

People with salaries/pensions from more than one employer/pension fund such as yourslef were the ones most likely to be drawn into this. I did get some work from people wanting me to check the HMRC calculations and I found in most cases that the calculations were correct but I was able to explain to people what the cause was.

For the last couple of years employers and pension funds have been filing pay details with HMRC through what is called RTI. It does mean that the likelyhood of errors in the tax deducted from employment income and pensions is less than it used to be though not totally eliminated.
