Very interesting EL.  Personally I think the strength of the English language is that it is constantly evolving and so many of the words we use every day come from all different sources.

I agree with you squiggle. It's strange to think that in the future people will look back at out current vocabulary and find it strange. Some of it will be the same, some will be the same word but have changed meaning, and the rest different.

 

Most of the words I use are of Anglo Saxon origin

You know Yog, I thought it was something like that...whistles.... 

 It's something to do with Scottish bread (called a plain loaf) being bigger and more dense that a pan loaf (Regular loaf to you) which seems more refined by comparison, so pan loaf was considered posh - at least, that's what I've been told.
