Insulating is one of those words I always get muddled with.  I have trouble thinking of it as not being insulting, rolls of stuff lining your stairs insulting you as you pass,  the other is shopfitters, I always tend to associate it with shoplifters and think 'fancy them advertising it'   Mind you I am reading a Deric Longden book whose sense of humour is totally wacky, I think its rubbing off.

The others will be wondering if we've been sampling magic mushrooms, on the other hand they are used to us
It's just as well they know what we are like.

It is me who is insulting the rolls each time I have to squeeze past them. I give them a little kick, too.

Good evening everyone.    Reading the last few posts I'm sure everyone will think you have had more than your share of magic mushrooms!!!

Signing out for tonight.  Will catch up with you all as and when I can over the weekend.

Just take deep breaths Yogi and let them get on with it!!  Sounds as though it might be a good day tomorrow to take a trip to the shops.      Love you all.

Good morning El Loro and Squiggle, and all my lovely buddies.    Damp and dismal here again today, but not too cold.

Hubby has already cleaned the two patios at the back of the house and they look great.  I did make him a cup of coffee and told him the patios look great after all his hard work.  Got to keep him in a good mood as there are still two more patios at the front to clean.

Have a good day everyone, and stay safe.
Joyron
Good morning everyone. It is frosty and very foggy here.
Squiggle, hubby has asked me to look through everything as it is brought down from the loft, so that I can decide whether or not we can throw some of it away. Unfortunately, that may take me some time. However, the alternative would be worse because, if I let him choose, he would throw everything in the bin.
Joyron, I'm glad you aren't involved in the heavy work and, after all, coffee making is very important.
El, I hope the snow disappears quickly.
Yogi19
Good afternoon everyone

The snowflakes never amounted to anything, and now it's just a grey dampish day.

Glad to hear that you've got your hubbys working away Joyron and Yogi.

Skylark, I hope your granddaughter has left your house intact.

squiggle, I've edited this post  - I had posted about seeing by chance Lost for Words on televison after your post on Deric Longden and saying what a strange coincidence, then reading your post elsewhere and realising afterwards that it wasn't

Afternoon all.
I am having a teabreak from my loft-clearing activities. At the moment, I am surrounded by boxes and boxes of "stuff". Where on earth does it all come from? I think I should curtail my hoarding instincts from now on.
Middle son is going through the things he brought with him from his old flat, and is trying to decide which things he should keep. It will be another few months before he and GF move into their flat, so everything he decides to keep, will be going back up my loft.
Anyway, back to work, hope to catch up later.

Hi all, see you have all been busy! Granddaughter fine, just a cold, she is back to her normal bossy self  I have had to listen to a full scale rant on Hibernian FC for the past hour , how they are playing so badly and if son was manager the plans he would have, my head is spinning, glad he has gone out to his friends house, he can rant away there !!

Good morning everyone

My "new" boiler broke down sometime yesterday. By messing about I can get a few minutes heat at a time before it switches off. Of course being the weekend, I have to wait until tomorrow before I can get anything sorted out. I've got a convector heater and a small fan heater to use in the mean time.

Good morning everyone.

Re porridge... I have been told my old grannie used to make a huge pot of it and layer it in her dressing table drawer, and you could cut a slice of it , double !!
My dad remembers a farmer's wife who used to do the same.

I hope you get your boiler problem sorted quickly.

Squiggle and Joyron.

My house resembles a badly organised jumble sale.
I can't move, without tripping over boxes.
The dog isn't too impressed either, as her usual practice of sprawing about wherever she pleases, has been seriously curtailed by the boxes from the loft.

Hi everyone Poor Yogi you sound stressed out!  Hope you get your heating fixed soon El, you will have to get the thermals out!  I am off to my daughters for the day, the wee one is stressing her out and apparently the house is a tip, so will give her a hand and maybe stay to watch Dancing On Ice . Have a good day

Is it a combi boiler? We had a problem with ours a few weeks ago - I'm not very technical but the condensation? pipe had frozen solid (apparently it's quite common with combi boilers) my husband poured hot water over the pipe outside and suddenly the ice came shooting out in large chunks.

Don't know if it's any help.

Yogi, the pilot light is not visible on this combo boiler. There is a series of buttons and things, some of which can light up, some are not intended to. It is too complicated to try to explain. What I have done this afternoon is to vent the boiler (there's a gadget which you have to insert to do this), and I have been able to get the boiler working for the past few hours which is something. But the pressure is lower than it should be, and as the boiler has been playing up, there is something wrong. So I need to get an engineer out to look at the boiler. Just because it's working at present doesn't mean that it will be later on this evening or tomorrow.

Good morning everyone. It's a bit of a dreich (overcast, dull and drizzly) day up here, but at least there is no snow.
I've developed a strategy to help me deal with the loft chaos, I'm going to play Pollyanna's Glad Game.
So, I'm glad I found lots of photos and cards (whilst sorting through the boxes) which brought back some wonderful memories. I found some diagrams and notes which my late brother had given me, when he was teaching me to drive - luckily he had the patience of a saint and a great sense of humour.
We also found a photograph of our first golden retriever and my (then) 14month old son, taken on the first day we got her. She was a tiny, gorgeous ball of fur. Youngest son pointed out that we had chopped him in half, in order to get a really good pic of the pup.

El, I hope your engineer can get the problem resolved quickly. I know it isn't as cold as it was over Christmas, but it's still too chilly to be without heating.
Yogi19
Good morning Yogi Keep up the good work.

An engineer is coming out tomorrow morning to assess the boiler. He told me where the taps should be to fill up the reservoir to increase the pressure - venting the boiler to get it started reduces the pressure. The only problem is that the taps do not appear to be where they would expect them to be.
El Loro
Good morning everyone, I'm glad that you found some lovely photos and mementos Yogi, you see life handed you lemons and you made lemonade

EL hope that engineer can sort out your boiler and get it problem-free this time.  I don't like the sound of those combi boilers and by law that's all you can buy at the moment I hear.

Lal as Yogi has said all are welcome, I think we see this as a 'nattering away' sort of place

Oh dear, that's not so good.
Fingers crossed he manages to fix it when he comes out tomorrow.

Good morning to all my lovely buddies.    Have left a message in our PM about No.1 son.

Sorry to hear of the continuing problems with the boiler El Loro.  Let's hope the engineer will be able to put things right tomorrow.

I'm sure you enjoyed your trip down memory lane Yogi.  It's great when you come across things you had completely forgotten about.

The TV engineer has rung to say he will be calling between 11.00 am and 2.00 pm.  It's just my luck that ever since we reported the fault with the sound the television has worked perfectly.    I hope the engineer doesn't think I'm wasting his time.  The guarantee runs out in a couple of months time and I didn't want to leave it in case it goes wrong again.  Will let you know what happens.

Good morning Joyron.
It could be an intermittent fault, so it's best you report it before the guarantee runs out.
Yogi19
Good morning Joyron . The intermittent problems are the most irritating as you can almost guarantee that the gadget will be working fine whilst the engineer is there, then within a day the problem comes back.

Good morning squiggle , British Gas still supply conventional boilers on their website - I thought they did as they gave me the choice a few months before I changed the old one.

Good morning EL, I am relieved to hear that because I have been hearing so many problems with the combi boilers, it seems the best thing is to have the flue modified so as to overcome this problem with ice building up during icy weather, but I would rather have a conventional boiler I think.
