Morning everyone.  Oh boy did we have some rain last night!!  Woke just before dawn to find the whole house surrounded by water, as were the fields beyond.  Hubby quickly cleared the storm drains which had become clogged with leaves and the water went down really quickly.  Thank goodness.  The brook at the end of the garden sounds like a raging torrent.

Fortunately no water got into the house.  Unfortunately the patios which we had cleaned and repointed in the autumn are now covered with slimy mud.    Looks like the pressure washer will be in action soon.

Off to the shops later. Have a good day whatever you are doing.

Joyron, what a downpour you must have had. I hope you get the mess cleared up soon. We had a lot of rain on Saturday, but today is dry and frosty.

Joyron , sounds as if you were lucky not to get floods coming into the house. Take care on the roads though, as there is likely to be some flooding around. It was raining heavily late last evening here in Gloucester, but I'm not aware of any flooding problems.

When I was in the church hall on Saturday I noticed a poster on the wall about Tamils. It turns out that because of the civil war in Sri Lanka a fews years ago involving the Tamil Tigers and the Sri Lankan military, that quite a lot of the families fled Sri Lanka. About 80-90 families settled in the Gloucester area and they meet in the church hall on a weekly basis. The majority of Tamils are Hindus with a few Muslims and Christians.

After yesterday's greyness and wetness, today had been a pleasant change. It's been sunny with only a few clouds, and although cooler than yesterday, it's much less windy than the past few days, so it's quite nice out there.

Good afternoon everyone.    El Loro, I've just finished watching Larkrise and I agree the scene between Queenie and Twister was a little gem.  It really is an enjoyable programme to watch.

It's been a bright sunny day here after all the rain.  Squiggle, I don't know how much rain we had but it must have been several inches as the garden was covered so that you couldn't see any grass.  The brook and our neighbour's ditches were full and overflowing.  Except for the muddy patio areas you wouldn't know now that it had flooded at all!!

No.1 son had to make several detours to get to work this morning as many of the roads he needed to travel on were flooded.  Let's hope it stays dry for a while now as the ground won't be able to take anymore water. 

Joyron, a flood warning was put out for Essex this morning because of that rain. I'm sure your local paper and radio is full of it, but this is a link to the BBC article
It was the riverside properties in Chelmsford town centre which were put on warning.

That's a lot of rain, Joyron, no wonder there are flood warnings in your area.

Thanks for the article El Loro.  I can certainly vouch for the fact that a lot more places than Chelmsford actually got flooded.  I sincerely hope we have a less stressful time for a little while.  I don't think my nerves will take a lot more.  Just hope I can sleep tonight!!! 

Hi everyone, hope you all well and Joyron , hope its not raining where you are!  Had a nice quiet day, watched Wish Me Luck, hadnt seen it for years. Its really cold here although its says 5C, its not!

Hi Skylark, we had a couple of light showers over in the west.
It was quite frosty this morning and I got the "risk of ice" warning in my car, when I was driving home from the hairdressers at 5pm.

Was out with doggy and the pavements are glistening. Got the heating on, dreading the bill, it must be huge

I know! We pay our gas and electric by Direct Debit, to try to ease the pain of big bills.

I have a monthy payment plan, but if its too much they may review the payments, i hope not! The VAT is kicking in too. Oh i am all doom and gloom again .........

I will be happy when its pay day, feels like i havent been paid for months , that Santa has a lot to answer for

Good afternoon everyone.    I'm pleased to report that I did sleep really well last night.  In fact I slept so sound I've had a real job getting going today!!

There was a sharp frost this morning but the sun has been shining so it's a lovely day out there.

Hope you found a good book to read Skylark.  I've spent the morning trying to get through some of the programmes I recorded around Christmas time!!  At least I've created a little bit of space on the Sky+ box now.

Just returned from a 4 mile walk into town and back. It's been a nice sunny day, so I thought I would walk rather than drive or catch the bus.

Thank you for that information Squiggle.  I don't have Sky movies but No.1 son does so I will ask him to record it and transfer a copy to disc for me.  No.2 son tried, unsuccessfully, to download a copy for me some time ago.  Now, at last, I MIGHT get to see this film!!! 

Probably won't be back again tonight but will catch up with you all tomorrow. 

EL if you haven't yet seen Roman Holiday (and I can thoroughly recommend it, really is a not-to-be-missed movie) then I am more than happy to whiz you off a copy, you have my email address so just let me know.

squiggle, thanks for the offer. I have seen Roman Holiday at least twice, and as you say it is a not-to-be-missed film. It's Joyron who has never seen it (at least she hadn't back last September when we talked about it), so if her son doesn't record it, I'm sure she would like a copy from you.

I doubt if I will be going for a 4 mile walk today as it is very foggy here at present. According to the weather forecast, by 9 this morning the fog will be gone and it will be sunny. I think they are just a bit wrong

Good morning everyone. It is a lovely, frosty morning up here.
Middle son and his girlfriend have decided they are going to move in together (around April time). They saw a 42 " HD television in a sale, so decided to buy it now. Where on earth I am going to put it for the next three months, I do not know.
It is due to be delivered today between 8am and 5pm, so guess who is stuck at home waiting for it?!
Actually, the TV situation apart, we are really pleasedy for them. GF is a really sweet girl, who makes son very happy, and they get on really well. Fingers crossed it all works out for them.
